Face Representation Based on Non-Alpha Weberface and Histogram Equalization for Face Recognition Under Varying Illumination Conditions (조명 변화 환경에서 얼굴 인식을 위한 Non-Alpha Weberface 및 히스토그램 평활화 기반 얼굴 표현)

  • Facial appearance is greatly influenced by illumination conditions, and therefore illumination variation is one of the factors that degrades performance of face recognition systems. In this paper, we propose a robust method for face representation under varying illumination conditions, combining non-alpha Weberface (non-alpha WF) and histogram equalization. We propose a two-step method: (1) for a given face image, non-alpha WF, which is not applied a parameter for adjusting the intensity difference between neighboring pixels in WF, is computed; (2) histogram equalization is performed to non-alpha WF, to make a uniform histogram distribution globally and to enhance the contrast. $(2D)^2PCA$ is applied to extract low-dimensional discriminating features from the preprocessed face image. Experimental results on the extended Yale B face database and the CMU PIE face database show that the proposed method yielded better recognition rates than several illumination processing methods as well as the conventional WF, achieving average recognition rates of 93.31% and 97.25%, respectively.

Obstacle Avoidance of Unmanned Surface Vehicle based on 3D Lidar for VFH Algorithm (무인수상정의 장애물 회피를 위한 3차원 라이다 기반 VFH 알고리즘 연구)

  • In this paper, we use 3-D LIDAR for obstacle detection and avoidance maneuver for autonomous unmanned operation. It is aimed to avoid obstacle avoidance in unmanned water under marine condition using only single sensor. 3D lidar uses Quanergy's M8 sensor to collect surrounding obstacle data and includes layer information and intensity information in obstacle information. The collected data is converted into a three-dimensional Cartesian coordinate system, which is then mapped to a two-dimensional coordinate system. The data including the obstacle information converted into the two-dimensional coordinate system includes noise data on the water surface. So, basically, the noise data generated regularly is defined by defining a hypothetical region of interest based on the assumption of unmanned water. The noise data generated thereafter are set to a threshold value in the histogram data calculated by the Vector Field Histogram, And the noise data is removed in proportion to the amount of noise. Using the removed data, the relative object was searched according to the unmanned averaging motion, and the density map of the data was made while keeping one cell on the virtual grid map. A polar histogram was generated for the generated obstacle map, and the avoidance direction was selected using the boundary value.

A Study on Class Sample Extraction Technique Using Histogram Back-Projection for Object-Based Image Classification (객체 기반 영상 분류를 위한 히스토그램 역투영을 이용한 클래스 샘플 추출 기법에 관한 연구)

  • Image segmentation and supervised classification techniques are widely used to monitor the ground surface using high-resolution remote sensing images. In order to classify various objects, a process of defining a class corresponding to each object and selecting samples belonging to each class is required. Existing methods for extracting class samples should select a sufficient number of samples having similar intensity characteristics for each class. This process depends on the user's visual identification and takes a lot of time. Representative samples of the class extracted are likely to vary depending on the user, and as a result, the classification performance is greatly affected by the class sample extraction result. In this study, we propose an image classification technique that minimizes user intervention when extracting class samples by applying the histogram back-projection technique and has consistent intensity characteristics of samples belonging to classes. The proposed classification technique using histogram back-projection showed improved classification accuracy in both the experiment using hue subchannels of the hue saturation value transformed image from Compact Advanced Satellite 500-1 imagery and the experiment using the original image compared to the technique that did not use histogram back-projection.

Study of Joint Histogram Based Statistical Features for Early Detection of Lung Disease (폐질환 조기 검출을 위한 결합 히스토그램 기반의 통계적 특징 인자에 대한 연구)

  • In this paper, new method was proposed to classify lung tissues such as Broncho vascular, Emphysema, Ground Glass Reticular, Ground Glass, Honeycomb, Normal for early lung disease detection. 459 Statistical features was extraced from joint histogram matrix based on multi resolution analysis, volumetric LBP, and CT intensity, then dominant features was selected by using adaboost learning. Accuracy of proposed features and 3D AMFM was 90.1% and 85.3%, respectively. Proposed joint histogram based features shows better classification result than 3D AMFM in terms of accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity.

  • In this paper, it is shown that the car number plate are recognized more efficiently by using Fuzzy-ARTM AP. We use the location information of characters in the car number plate area and the color intensity difference between the character region and the background region int the tar number plate area. For segmented plate region, the car plate region is extracted by deciding the X-axis region composed by horizontal histogram and the Y-axis region composed by the variance histogram of vertical histogram. Our method then directly recognizes the extracted character region by using Fuzzy-ARTMAP neural network.

Comparison of plan dosimetry on multi-targeted lung radiotherapy: A phantom-based computational study using IMRT and VMAT

  • This work analyzed the dosimetric difference between the intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), partial/single/double-arc volumetric modulated arc therapy (PA/SA/DA-VMAT) techniques in treatment planning for treating more than one target of lung cancer at different isocenters. IMRT and VMAT plans at different isocenters were created systematically using a Harold heterogeneous lung phantom. The conformity index (CI), homogeneity index (HI), gradient index (GI), dose-volume histogram and mean and maximum dose of the PTV were calculated and analyzed. Furthermore, the dose-volume histogram and mean and maximum doses of the OARs such as right lung, contralateral lung and non GTV were determined from the plans. The IMRT plans showed the superior target dose coverage, higher mean and maximum values than other VMAT techniques. PA-VMAT technique shows more lung sparing and DA-VMAT increases the V5/10/20 values of contralateral lung than other VMAT and IMRT techniques. The IMRT technique achieves highly conformal dose distribution to the target than other VMAT techniques. Comparing to the IMRT plans, the higher V5/10/20 and mean lung dose were observed in the contralateral lung in the DA-VMAT.

A Bilateral Symmetry Average Method for Robust Face Detection against Illumination Variation (조명 변화에 강인한 얼굴 검출을 위한 좌우대칭 평균화 기법)

  • In a face detection system based on template matching, histogram equalization or log transform is applied to an input image for the intensity normalization and the image improvement. It is known that they are noneffective in improving an image with intensity distortion by illumination variation. In this paper, we propose an efficient image improvement method called as a bilateral symmetry average for images with intensity distortion by illumination variation. Experimental results show that our method delivers the detection performance better than previous methods and also remarkably reduces the number of face candidates.

  • In this study, we propose the unsupervised image segmentation algorithm to estimate dental plaque accumulations on digital imaging with methylene blue disclosed plaque. With this aim, RGB color plane is mapped into HSI coordinates and the circular histogram of Hue is reconstructed by applying Otsu's threshold level. The histogram distribution on Saturation features is also analyzed by maximizing the variance between a plaque candidate and non-plaque one. The dental plaque regions are resolved by applying the composite decision logics based on the threshold level of Hue and Saturation.

Realtime Object Region Detection Robust to Vehicle Headlight (차량의 헤드라이트에 강인한 실시간 객체 영역 검출)

  • Object detection methods based on background learning are widely used in video surveillance. However, when a car runs with headlights on, these methods are likely to detect the car region and the area illuminated by the headlights as one connected change region. This paper describes a method of separating the car region from the area illuminated by the headlights. First, we detect change regions with a background learning method, and extract blobs, connected components in the detected change region. If a blob is larger than the maximum object size, we extract candidate object regions from the blob by clustering the intensity histogram of the frame difference between the mean of background images and an input image. Finally, we compute the similarity between the mean of background images and the input image within each candidate region and select a candidate region with weak similarity as an object region.

  • In this paper, face detection method in NIR(Near-InfraRed) images for human recognition is proposed. Edge histogram based on edge intensity and its direction, has been used to detect effectively faces on NIR image. The edge histogram descripts and discriminates face effectively because it is strong in environment of lighting change. SVM(Support Vector Machine) has been used as a classifier to detect face and the proposed method showed better performance with smaller features than in ULBP(Uniform Local Binary Pattern) based method.
