  • Some terms related to "meaning" in semantics are reviewed, particularly those used in Lyons' famous semantics book Semantics 1 and Semantics 2 (Cambridge University Press, 1977). Since Lyons' book is so comprehensive that the semantic terms used in that book cover almost every important notions/terms used in contemporary semantics. With relevant interpretation of the terms, we suggest most appropriate Korean translations, trying to give different translations for different English terms. Terms covered include: 'signify, signification; reference/refer/referent, sense; denotation/denote, connotation/connote; extension, intension; implication/imply, implicature/implicate, entailment/entail; designate, demonstrate/demonstrative'.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the gender differences in the relationships between knowledge of, attachment with, and attitude toward a parent brand and perceived risk of, attitude toward, and purchase intension of an extended product in the case of brand extension. A total of 300 survey questionnaires were distributed to 150 male and 150 female college students, and 275 responses were used for the final analysis. The results showed that for male college students, knowledge of the parent brand had a positive relationship with brand attachment with the parent brand, which in turn had a positive relationship with brand attitude toward the parent brand. Knowledge of the parent brand had a negative relationship with perceived risk of the extended product, which again had a negative relationship with attitude toward the extended product. In addition, for male college students, knowledge of the parent brand had a positive relationship with attitude toward the extended product, which also had a positive relationship with purchase intension of the extended product. For female college students, brand attachment with the parent brand had a positive relationship with brand attitude toward the parent brand, which also had a positive relationship with attitude toward the extended product. Brand attachment with the parent brand showed a negative relationship with perceived risk of the extended product, which also had a negative relationship with attitude toward the extended product.

  • Based on the theory of planned behavior, this study aims to examine the structural equation model among consumers' concerns and purchase intentions for alternative meats. Data were collected from 300 adults living in Kyeonggi Province. Results show that animal welfare, environmental concern, and health concern all have a direct and significant effect on purchase intention of alternative meat, and the mediation effect is also significant, indicating a partial mediation effect. The image of a company as caring about animal welfare and contributing to public causes can help sell alternative meats. Media publicity focusing on animal welfare for alternative meats can improve the attitudes of domestic consumers as well as their intention to purchase alternative meat products.

  • Various government-based consulting techniques are being adapted to increase competitive power and to achieve management innovation of Korean farms. These business consulting services are offered by free or paid consulting. This study focuses on what socio-economic characteristics are affecting farmers' intension of adapting consulting services, based on 169 surveyed data from Chunchungnam-do. Logit Model is used to identify the relationship between the probability of consulting intent and factors representing farm characteristics. The model was applied on each of free and paid consulting. According to the results, degree of consulting recognition, age, education, raised crop are significant factors affecting farmers' intension of adapting consulting service in the case of free consulting at 10% of significance level. In the case of paid consulting, level of farming, age, income, insufficiency of farming, and education were identified as significant factors. In terms of elasticity of each variable, most variables for free consulting service are inelastic to consulting intent, whereas age, level of farming, and education are elastic for paid consulting service. Overall results implies that more public relations are required to activate free consulting services for the farms with moderate level of farming. In the case of paid consulting, it is effective to adapt consulting services for younger farms with higher level of farming and education.

  • The current study investigates major factors which influence the acceptance of mobile internet services based on the theoretical backgrounds of the technology acceptance model(TAM) and the flow theory. This research extended the Davis' TAM model(1989) by including the flow concept as another major factor towards the intention to use the mobile device in order to explain the acceptance of divers mobile services. According to the marketing studies(Ghani & Desphande, 1994; Novak, Hoffman & Yung, 2000), flow is regarded a psychological state in which one is absorbed in something he or she is doing, and is known to be widely adopted in explaining one's acceptance in the area of game, sports, and even hobby. This study developed a research model to explain the use of mobile services employing usefulness, ease of use and flow as major research variables, and collected 221 survey responses from the high school students who had experiences with such mobile services as game and audio file download. The results of the current research indicates that usefulness and flow influence the intension to use mobile services, but the effect of ease of use did not appear significant to the intention to use. It was also found that flow affects both usefulness and ease of use, and then ease of use next influences usefulness.

  • Purpose - This study aimed to identify the sub-dimensions of fashion social media quality (information quality, social quality, service quality, system quality) and investigate how they affect purchase intention through fashion information use behavior (information acceptance, information diffusion). Research design, data, and methodology - Data collection was carried out twice for systematic verification of the research model. In the first data collection, the reliability and validity of research variables were verified through 238 respondents and questionnaires were revised and supplemented based on their responses. In March 2018, the final survey was conducted from 755 respondents the age of 20 to 49. Using SPSS 23.0, descriptive statistics, exploratory factor analysis, correlation analysis were performed. In order to test hypotheses, structural equational modeling technique was employed using AMOS 23.0. Results - First of all, fashion Social media quality consists of four factors including information quality, social quality, service quality and system quality. Second, fashion Social media information quality, social quality, and system quality were shown to have a positive(+) effect on information acceptance behavior, and social quality, service quality and system quality were shown to have a positive(+) effect on information diffusion behavior. It was also determined that the acceptance and diffusion behaviors of fashion information through fashion Social media had positive(+) influence on purchase intention. Conclusions - This study holds academic significance in its identification of the components of fashion Social media quality and for conducting an empirical analysis on the causal relationship between fashion information acceptance and diffusion behaviors, and purchase intention. The results of this study indicate that fashion involvement is the key factors in determining the quality of Social media, the acceptance of information through Social media, and, by extension, the purchase of fashion products. Practitioners in the fashion industry may use the findings of this study in order to build more effective Social media strategy.

  • This research has found logical data directly influencing forming consideration set and attitude and attitude strength under the choosing situation based on memory-base proposed by Priester et. al (2004). We've examined the possibility of model extension through physical salient strength according to the location of product display as an external stimulate factor and attitude and attitude strength, consideration set and role on variable choice. Especially, this research practically proposed the method measuring directly the attitude on behavior instead of seeing the intension of behavior or behavior by measuring the behavior itself based on existing experiment methods and applied logistics regression analysis. In conclusion, this research confirmed the possibility of generalization of this model by verifying appropriateness through logical background and actual analysis based on stimulus-base proposed model characters as an integrated model relation between attitude in stimulus-based relation and decision-making.

  • This study explores the effect of parent-brand attitude on the purchase intention of an extended brand for expanding a foodservice brand and the interaction effect between parent-brand attitude and perceived risk by fit for the purchase intention of an expanded brand using the proof analysis. As a result, the main effects among parent-brand attitude(F(1,295)=12.012, p<0.01), fit(F(1,295)=17,758, p<0.001), perceived risk(F(1,295)=12.570, p<0.01) and the purchase intention of an expanded brand were significant statistically. Also, for the purchase intention of an expanded brand, not only the effect of interactions between parent-brand attitude and perceived risk(F(1,295)=5.782, p<0.05) but the effect of interactions among parent-brand attitude, fit and perceived risk(F(1,295)=6.068, p<0.05) were significant. In addition, there was difference between parent-brand attitude to purchase intention and the interaction effect of perceived risk by the fit of an extended brand.
