eBay: Smart Entry Strategy into the Korean Market Through M&A and its Post-Merger Integration

  • Purpose - This case study illustrates the story of eBay Korea, which owns two most leading Korean open market companies, AUCTION and Gmarket. The main concerns are to take over the Korean top domestic companies one by one, then, emerge these two giants through its well-developed post-merger Integration by eBay, an American multinational corporation. Research design, data, and methodology - This case explores various secondary resources such as periodicals, annual reviews, magazine, news articles, commentaries, even some interview materials related to 'eBay Korea' and industry source on condition of anonymity based on the critical reviewing of existing studies on these topics as well. Results - The findings of this study show the merger and acquisition of two market leaders in Korea is the only successful case in Asian Markets. The eBay's choice of entry mode is appropriate considering the timing, synergy and efficiency by sharing their resources. Conclusions - This study examines the successful entry and settlement process of foreign, multinational company through mergers and acquisitions in the Korean market. This would be a valuable in the studies of International Business and Global entry or distribution strategy in the e-commerce and open market dealing with M&A and its post-merger integration.

가족 유사성 접근법을 적용한 물체의 빠르기 주제의 융합지식 구성 연구 (Constructing Convergence Knowledge on Velocity with Family Resemblance Approach)

  • For STEM education science teachers usually choose topics which are related to both science and other disciplinary contents. Nevertheless it is not clear for the teachers to adopt what kind of criteria for their choices. Interdisciplinary teaching is not a mixture of science content with another one from different disciplines as resources for the content teaching. Instead the criteria and perspectives for the integration need to be clearly defined. In this study we investigated how to integrate science and other disciplines in terms of interdisciplinary teaching. Family resemblance approach by Wittgenstein, recently revised by Erduran and Dagher, was applied to comparative analysis of science, math, and physical education curriculum documents in Korea. Aim and value, methodological rules and methods, knowledge, and activities in each discipline were compared and analyzed with the view of FRA. Results of the study described alternative criteria of how to find appropriate topics for interdisciplinary teaching.

BERTopic을 활용한 텍스트마이닝 기반 인공지능 반도체 기술 및 연구동향 분석 (Topic Modeling on Patent and Article Big Data Using BERTopic and Analyzing Technological Trends of AI Semiconductor Industry)

  • The Fourth Industrial Revolution has spurred widespread adoption of AI-based services, driving global interest in AI semiconductors for efficient large-scale computation. Text mining research, historically using LDA, has evolved with machine learning integration, exemplified by the 2021 BERTopic technology. This study employs BERTopic to analyze AI semiconductor-related patents and research data, generating 48 topics from 2,256 patents and 40 topics from 1,112 publications. While providing valuable insights into technology trends, the study acknowledges limitations in taking a macro approach to the entire AI semiconductor industry. Future research may explore specific technologies for more nuanced insights as the industry matures.

중학교 과학 교과서의 국제 비교 (International Comparison of Junior High School Science Textbooks)

  • 본 연구는 한국, 미국, 호주, 일본의 중학교 ($7{\sim}9$학년) 과학 교과서를 한 종류씩 선택하여, 포함하고 있는 지식, 과정기능, 활동, 상황, 과학의 본성, 그리고 사용된 통합주제의 양과 형태를 국가별, 학년별, 내용별로 각각 비교해 보는 것을 목적으로 하고 있다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 교과서의 분량은 미국의 경우가 가장 많아 한국의 두배 정도나 되었고, 한국을 제외한 세 나라의 교과서에는 색채인쇄가 많았고, 편집은 2단으로 되어 있었다. 내용별로는 한국과 일본의 교과서에서는 물리, 화학, 생물, 지학의 네 영역이 같은 분량을 차지하고 있었고, 미국의 교과서에는 생물과 지학이, 호주에서는 환경과 STS를 강조하고 있었다. 모든 나라의 교과서에서 '개념'올 가장 많이 사용하고 있었고, 학년이 올라갈수록 '법칙'을 점차 강조하고 있었다. 한국의 교과서는 다른 나라의 교과서에 비해 '법칙'을 많이 다루고 있었다. 한국의 교과서에서 가장 많은 과정기능이 사용되었다. 나라별로는 한국의 교과서에는 비례와 변인통제가, 일본의 교과서에는 상관/인과와 비례가, 미국과 호주의 교과서에는 변인통제와 자료변환이 많이 사용되었다. 미국과 한국의 교과서가 호주나 일본의 교과서보다 훨씬 많은 수의 활동들을 다루고 있었다. 한국, 일본, 호주의 교과서에서는 실험과 관찰 활동이 대부분을 차지하였고, 미국의 교과서에는 관찰, 실험, 조사, 실습, 측정 활동들이 고루 다루어지고 있었다. 한국과 일본, 호주의 교과서에서는 순수과학 상황이 가장 많이 사용되었고, 미국의 교과서에는자연환경 상황이 가장 많았으나, 미국과 호주의 교과서에서는 나머지 상황들이 골고루 사용되고 있었다. 과학의 본성을 상당한 정도로 다루고 있는 호주와 미국에 비해, 한국과 일본의 교과서에서는 이에 관한 부분이 극히 적거나 전혀 없었다. 과학과 기술 간의 통합소재가 가장 많이 사용되었으며, 과학내 소재는 가장 적게 사용되었다. 한국과 일본의 교과서에서는 다른 나라에 비해 적게 사용하고 있었다.

시스템 사고기반 울혈성 심부전 간호교육 시뮬레이션 프로그램 개발 및 적용 (Development and Application of a System Thinking-Based Approach with the Use of a Patient Simulator in Nursing Education : Focus on Congestive Heart Failure)

  • This study aims to explore the development and application of a simulated skills package designed to improve nursing students' knowledge integration and their system thinking(ST) skills about congestive heart failure(CHF) and to identify the change in students' ST levels using a ST-based learning approach. A simulated learning support package was developed by nurse educators and ST experts. The developed program was implemented with 35 third-year nursing students from S university in Seoul. The subjects improved their ST skills regarding CHF after intervention. Mean test scores for students completing the program were significantly higher than pre-intervention scores, including measures of direction of causality, polarity of causal relationship, feedback loop, polarity of feedback loop (reinforcing, balancing) and time delay (t=2.26~6.53, p=.030~p<.001). It is suggested that more educational programs be developed on various topics in order for nursing students to improve their ST skills as well as knowledge integration in clinical nursing practicum packages.

시·도 교육청 '우리들은 1학년' 교과서 내용 분석 (Comparative Analysis on 'We are the First Graders' Textbooks)

  • The purposes of this study were to compare and analyze the local primary textbooks for the subject of 'We are the First Graders'. This study analyzed the common points and the differences among three textbooks developed by the three educational bureaus of Seoul, Daegu and Busan. The criterion of analysis were scope, sequence and integration of curriculum representing the principles for developing curriculum. The results were as follows: First, the scopes of topics included in 2007 National Curriculum of 'We are the First Graders' were faithfully reflected in the three local textbooks. Second, the sequences of textbooks were generally arranged according to the order of curriculum content except for some contents. As for 'Wise School Life', some contents were presented at the first unit of the three textbooks and the others were gradually expanded at the latter of the textbooks. Third, the integration of curriculum appeared meaningfully in the three textbooks. Based on these results, this study suggested some recommendations on the activites for the adaptation at the early stage in the primary school under 2009 National Curriculum.

  • In the last several years, we have made slow but steady progress in understanding molecular biology of lung cancer. This review is focused on advances in understanding the biology of lung cancer that have led to proof of concept studies on new therapeutic approaches. The three selected topics include genetics, epigenetics and non-coding RNA. This new information represents progress in the integration of molecular mechanisms that to identify more effective ways to target lung cancer.

BIHARMONIC CURVES IN FINSLER SPACES

  • Biharmonic curves are a generalization of geodesics, with applications in elasticity theory and computer science. The paper proposes a first study of biharmonic curves in spaces with Finslerian geometry, covering the following topics: a deduction of their equations, specific properties and existence of non-geodesic biharmonic curves for some classes of Finsler spaces. Integration of the biharmonic equation is presented for two concrete Finsler metrics.

  • The effort made today by the man to adapt himself to Computer technology is considerable. On the other hand, one may expect that, by the way it is conceived, he also adapts the machine to the man. The choice and installation of a Computer not only requires a thorough analysis regarding its efficiency, but also a study of the office environment in order to achieve optimal and tactile comfort for the user. This report deals with aspects for the integration of ergonomics into the process of keyboard design topics.
