  • Survivability assessments and vulnerability reductions are required in warship design. A warship's survivability is assessed by its susceptibility, vulnerability, and recoverability. In this paper, an integrated survivability assessment for a warship subjected to multiple hits is introduced. The methodology aims at integrating a survivability assessment into an early stage of warship design. The hull surface is idealized using typical geometries for RCS (Radar Cross Section) detection probability and susceptibility. The Vulnerability is evaluated by using the shot-line. The recoverability is estimated using a survival time analysis. This enables the variation of survivability to be assessed. Several parameters may be varied to determine their effects on the survivability. The susceptibility is assessed by the probability of detecting the radar cross section of the subject and the probability of being hit based on a probability density function. The vulnerability is assessed by the kill probability based on the vulnerable area of critical components, according to the component's layout and redundancy. Recoverability is assessed by the recovery time for damaged critical components.

  • Visual information and aural warning of independent aircraft survivability equipment increase the pilot workload and limit the effective countermeasures. For increase the aircraft survivability, Integrated design of survivability display and aural warning need to consider pilot intuitions. If pilot aware the threat by intuition, evade or escape from the threat using the countermeasures equipment, it will increase the survivability. This paper describe the design and verification of for Utility Helicopter survivability equipment.

  • A design method of network Topology for Integrated Management of various Networks is prposed and an example is shown. The TMN-DCN devices are assigned for each of the various networks. These devices have functions of network management. Also we propose the simple design methods of the network topology with survivability as one of the network management elements. The design methods are very simple but very useful. Because there is no general design algorithm for optimal topology with network survivability.

  • Analysis and review of survivability is one of the most important aspects when naval vessels are designed. Because aiming points of threat towards the naval vessels in the battle field could not be estimated exactly, probabilistic and statistic approach is frequently introduced to evaluate and enhance the vessel survivability. Some commercial survivability analysis programs are used to perform the analysis for enhancement of susceptibility, vulnerability and recoverability but, they are usually classified and impossible to be exported to other countries because of their national security. In this paper, a simplified vulnerability analysis program is developed to evaluate the vulnerability of the warship in aspects of structure, redundancy and its mission capability at the conceptual design stage. To verify the developed program, the analysis results were compared with those of the commercial program MOTISS(Measure of Total Integrated System Survivability).

  • Currently security researchers focus on protection of program and data from malicious users and accidents. Therefore, many firewalls and intrusion detection systems have been developed commercially. The intrusion tolerance is a new concept that is the last line of defense for the information survivability. It emphasizes availability and integrity to provide critical system services continuously even when system is compromised. In this paper, we classify current intrusion tolerant technologies from the point of view of program and data. Furthermore, we propose an integrated framework that supports intrusion tolerance of program and data.

  • Computer Communications and networks have been revolutionized by technological advances in the last decade. There has been an increasing interest in the network security because of the growing popularity of Internet and the importance of networking in business area. With this growing interest, Network engineers come to more concern about improving network survivability. In this paper, we suggest the method that improves the survivability of wired and wireless network. To achieve this goal, we propose the integrated IP management with monitoring network nodes in the same network and controlling its activities.

  • The objective of this work presented here was focused on analysis of development trend for the integrated power system of naval vessels to perform the high-power and energy mission load platform. These mission loads are affected by the high level of military technologies, digitalization of the ocean battlefield, high power sensor system for maximization of the ship survivability. All electric power including propulsion power for ship should be controlled by integrated single system in order to carry various high power density weapon system such as Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System, Electromagnetic Rail Gun[feasible precision striking at long distance 200NM(370km) or over]. As the analyzing the present state of things, mechanical propulsion system is shifted into hybrid or fully electric propulsion systems to realize integrated power system at the developed countries. Such challenges include reduced dependency on foreign-supplied fossil fuel, increasing demand for installed ship power, controlling life-cycle costs.

  • A survivability-analysis program has been developed to analyze the ground collision risk of atmospheric reentry objects, such the upper stages of a launch vehicle or satellites, which move at or near the orbital velocity. The aero-thermodynamic load during the free fall, the temperature variation due to thermal load, and the phase shift after reaching the melting point are integrated into the 3 degree-of-freedom trajectory simulation of the reentry objects to analyze the size and weight of its debris impacting the ground. The analysis results of the present method for simple-shaped objects are compared with the data predicted by similar codes developed by NASA and ESA. Also, the analysis for actual reentry orbital objects has been performed, of which results are compared with the measurement data.

  • Recently, the increased use of anti-ship guided missiles, a weapon system that detects and attacks targets in naval engagement, has come to pose a major threat to the survivability of ships. In order to improve the survivability of ships in response to such anti-ship guided missiles, many studies of means to counteract them have been conducted in militarily advanced countries. The integrated survivability of a ship can be largely divided into susceptibility, vulnerability, and recoverability, and is expressed as the conditional probability, if the ship is hit, of damage and recovery. However, as research on susceptibility is a major military secret of each country, access to it is very limited and there are few publicly available data. Therefore, in this study, a possibility of estimating the susceptibility of ships using an anti-air defense system corresponding to anti-ship guided missiles was reviewed. To this, scenarios during engagement, weapon systems mounted to counter threats, and maximum detection/battle range according to the operational situation of the defense weapon system were defined. In addition, the effectiveness of the anti-air defense system and susceptibility was calculated based on the performance of the weapon system, the crew's ability to operate the weapon system, and the detection probability of the detection/defense system. To evaluate the susceptibility estimation feasibility, the sensitivity of the detailed variables was reviewed, and the usefulness of the established process was confirmed through sensitivity analysis.

  • System integration is an important element for the construction of naval combat ships. In particular, because impeccable combat system integration together with the sensors and weapons can ensure the combat capability and survivability of the ship, the integrated performance of the combat system should be verified and validated whether or not it fulfills the requirements of the end user. In order to conduct systematic verification and validation, a data analysis tool is requisite. This paper suggests the Data Extraction, Recording and Analysis Tool (DERAT) for the data analysis of the integrated performance of the combat system, including the functional definition, architecture and effectiveness of the DERAT by presenting the test results.
