Koch Fractal Shape Microstrip Bandpass Filters on High Resistivity Silicon for the Suppression of the 2nd Harmonic

  • In this paper, the fractal shape is applied to microstrip band pass filters and integrated on a high-resistivity Si substrate to solve conventional $2^{nd}$ harmonic problem. Conventional microstrip coupled line filters are popular in RF front ends, because they can be easily fabricated and integrated with other RF components. However, they typically have large second harmonics that can cause unwanted interference in interested frequency bands. Without any additional filters, the proposed Koch shape filters have suppressed the $2^{nd}$ harmonics by about -40 dB, so they can be used in systems such as direct conversion receiver with stringent harmonic suppression requirements.

A CMOS TX Leakage Canceller Using an Autotransformer for RFID Application (오토트랜스포머를 이용한 RFID용 CMOS 송신 누설 신호 제거기)

  • In this paper, a tunable integrated transmitter leakage canceller based on an autotransformer for ultra-high-frequency (UHF) RFID readers is presented. The proposed TX leakage canceller consists of an autotransformer, a digital tuning capacitor, a voltage controlled tuning resistor, and a compensating amplifier, and it is designed using 0.13 ${\mu}m$ 1-poly 6-metal RF CMOS process. The simulation results show that the proposed structure has over 55 dB rejection characteristic between a transmitter and a receiver and a 2.5 dB of the RX insertion loss. The TX leakage canceller can be digitally tuned from 825 MHz to 985 MHz with the tuning capacitor and it can be fully integrated.

  • The Digital Multimedia Broadcasting(DMB) system is developed to offer high quality audio-visual multimedia contents to the uses by the various portable terminals in the mobile environment. Integrated complex reception platform is required to receive multimedia broadcasting services transmitted from various transmission media. In this paper, we present the design and implementation technic for providing the both of terrestrial and satellite DMB services simultaneously using the same hardware platform. The implemented complex receiving terminal to accommodate these DMB services simultaneously need composed of it RF module. it baseband module, it complex control module and the complex de-multiplexer module. The complex control module is designed using uClinux operating system. The complex de-multiplexer, which perform the functions of the address decoder and each DMB stream de-multiplexer, is implemented. with FPGA device. The implemented platform is tested in a real environment and its performance is satisfied with required performance criteria.

Modified RHKF Filter for Improved DR/GPS Navigation against Uncertain Model Dynamics

  • In this paper, an error compensation technique for a dead reckoning (DR) system using a magnetic compass module is proposed. The magnetic compass-based azimuth may include a bias that varies with location due to the surrounding magnetic sources. In this paper, the DR system is integrated with a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver using a finite impulse response (FIR) filter to reduce errors. This filter can estimate the varying bias more effectively than the conventional Kalman filter, which has an infinite impulse response structure. Moreover, the conventional receding horizon Kalman FIR (RHKF) filter is modified for application in nonlinear systems and to compensate the drawbacks of the RHKF filter. The modified RHKF filter is a novel RHKF filter scheme for nonlinear dynamics. The inverse covariance form of the linearized Kalman filter is combined with a receding horizon FIR strategy. This filter is then combined with an extended Kalman filter to enhance the convergence characteristics of the FIR filter. Also, the receding interval is extended to reduce the computational burden. The performance of the proposed DR/GPS integrated system using the modified RHKF filter is evaluated through simulation.

Analysis on the Distribution of RF Threats Using Unsupervised Learning Techniques (비지도 학습 기법을 사용한 RF 위협의 분포 분석)

  • In this paper, we propose a method to analyze the clusters of RF threats emitting electrical signals based on collected signal variables in integrated electronic warfare environments. We first analyze the signal variables collected by an electronic warfare receiver, and construct a model based on variables showing the properties of threats. To visualize the distribution of RF threats and reversely identify them, we use k-means clustering algorithm and self-organizing map (SOM) algorithm, which are belonging to unsupervised learning techniques. Through the resulting model compiled by k-means clustering and SOM algorithms, the RF threats can be classified into one of the distribution of RF threats. In an experiment, we measure the accuracy of classification results using the algorithms, and verify the resulting model that could be used to visually recognize the distribution of RF threats.

  • A MMIC (Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit) mixer chip using the schottky diode of InGaAs/CaAs p-HEMT process has been developed for receiver down converter of Ka-band. A different approach of MMIC mixer structure is applied for reducing the chip size by the exchange of ports between IF and LO. This MMIC covers with RF (30.6∼31.0㎓)and IF (20.8∼21.2㎓). According to the on-wafer measurement, the MMIC mixer with miniature size of 3.0mm1.5mm demonstrates conversion loss below 7.8㏈, LO-to-RF isolation above 27㏈, LO-to-IF isolation above 19㏈ and RF-to-IF isolation above 39㏈, respectively.

Implant Isolation Characteristics for 1.25 Gbps Monolithic Integrated Bi-Directional Optoelectronic SoC (1.25 Gbps 단일집적 양방향 광전 SoC를 위한 임플란트 절연 특성 분석)

  • In this paper, we analyzed and measured implant isolation characteristics for a 1.25 Gbps monolithic integrated hi-directional (M-BiDi) optoelectronic system-on-a-chip, which is a key component to constitute gigabit passive optical networks (PONs) for a fiber-to-the-home (FTTH). Also, we derived an equivalent circuit of the implant structure under various DC bias conditions. The 1.25 Gbps M-BiDi transmit-receive SoC consists of a laser diode with a monitor photodiode as a transmitter and a digital photodiode as a digital data receiver on the same InP wafer According to IEEE 802.3ah and ITU-T G.983.3 standards, a receiver sensitivity of the digital receiver has to satisfy under -24 dBm @ BER=10-12. Therefore, the electrical crosstalk levels have to maintain less than -86 dB from DC to 3 GHz. From analysed and measured results of the implant structure, the M-BiDi SoC with the implant area of 20 mm width and more than 200 mm distance between the laser diode and monitor photodiode, and between the monitor photodiode and digital photodiode, satisfies the electrical crosstalk level. These implant characteristics can be used for the design and fabrication of an optoelectronic SoC design, and expended to a mixed-mode SoC field.

Real-time monitoring of berthing/deberthing operations process for entering/leaving vessels using VTS system in Busan northern harbor, Korea (부산 북항에서 VTS 시스템에 의한 출입항 선박의 접이안 작업과정의 실시간 모니터링)

  • The process of berthing/deberthing operations for entering/leaving vessels in Busan northern harbor was analyzed and evaluated by using an integrated VTS(vessel traffic service) system installed in the ship training center of Pukyong National University, Busan, Korea. The integrated VTS system used in this study was consisted of ARPA radar, ECDIS(electronic chart display and information system), backup(recording) system, CCTV(closed-circuit television) camera system, gyro-compass, differential GPS receiver, anemometer, AIS(automatic identification system), VHF(very high frequency) communication system, etc. The network of these systems was designed to communicate with each other automatically and to exchange the critical information about the course, speed, position and intended routes of other traffic vessels in the navigational channel and Busan northern harbor. To evaluate quantitatively the overall dynamic situation such as maneuvering motions for target vessel and its tugboats while in transit to and from the berth structure inside a harbor, all traffic information in Busan northern harbor was automatically acquired, displayed, evaluated and recorded. The results obtained in this study suggest that the real-time tracking information of traffic vessels acquired by using an integrated VTS system can be used as a useful reference data in evaluating and analyzing exactly the dynamic situation such as the collision between ship and berth structure, in the process of berthing/deberthing operations for entering/leaving vessels in the confined waters and harbor.

  • In this paper, we evaluate the performance of various diversity techniques which can contribute to provide efficient multimedia broadcasting services via hybrid/integrated satellite and terrestrial network. Space-time coding (STC) can achieve the diversity gain in a multi-path environment without additional bandwidth requirement. Recent study results reported that satellite systems can achieve high diversity gains by appropriate utilization of STC and/or forward error correction schemes. Based on these previous study results, we present various cooperative diversity techniques by combining STC and rate compatible turbo codes in order to realize the transmit diversity for the mobile satellite system. The satellite and several terrestrial repeaters operate in unison to send the encoded signals, so that receiver may realize diversity gain. The results demonstrated in this paper can be utilized in future system implementation.

  • P-type fire control panel, currently in use, has a big hazard that can cause the large scaled human death tolls and property damage in the massive fire because it is difficult to identify in real time the location of fire outbreak and whether search-device are broken down or not. In this paper, I suggest that the integrated fire automation system on based p-type fire control panel should be used, which can detect in real time the signal that occur when whether search-device are broken down or not, and can detect the arisen circumstances information of p-type fire control panel on the fire signal in the far away. The devised systems have designed and embodied the analysis of circumstances information and module that can analyze the circumstances information from the p-type fire control panel and the part of internet access installment which can gather and deliver the circumstances information from the fire prevention facility receiver.
