  • In this paper, a vibration endurance test is performed on rubber insulators used for vehicle air cleaners. Based on the test results, the endurance characteristics depending on the type and the material of the insulators are estimated. The frequency response characteristics of the air cleaner system including the insulator are investigated to identify the cause of wear and failure of the insulator. New insulator models with improved endurance characteristics are proposed and tested. Test results show that the vibration endurance property of the insulator is strongly dependent on the frequency response characteristics of the air cleaner system as well as the deformed shape of the insulator.

  • We developed the composite long rod insulator for railway, and the developed insulators were applied to commercial lines, KNR through a series of preparations such as establishment of specification, diverse tests and evaluation of reliability, and improvement of manufacturing system, etc. This paper presents some considerations for mass Production of the composite insulators in view of steady quality especially. 1 believe that our tries, though it is incomplete in view of low cost, is effective in good performance of the insulators in service and these in-service experience is enough to be a basis of more progress in field of insulation technique.

  • Oxide and reoxidized-nitrided-oxide were formed by furnace oxidation and rapid thermal processing (RTP). MOS capacitor and n-MOSFET's with those films as gate insulators were fabricated. The electrical characteristics of insulators were evaluated by current-voltage, high-frequency capacitance-voltage (C-V), and time-dependent dielectrical breakdown (TDDB) measurements. The hot carrier effects of MOSFET's were also investigated. Time-dependent dielectrical breakdown (TDDB) characteristics show that the life time of reoxidized-nitrided-oxide films is about 3 times longer than that of oxides. Hot carrier effects reveal that the life time of MOSFET's with reoxidized-nitrided-oxides is about 3 times longer than that of MOSFET's with oxides. Therefore, it is found that the reliability of dielectric films estimated by the hot carrier effects of MOSFET's is consistent with that of dielectric films from TDDB method.

  • The 765kV transmission line will be maintained by live-line works for efficient operation. In order to maintain the 765kV transmission lines safely by live-line works, lineman has to know switching impulse flashover characteristics of the jumper V-strings with damaged insulators in advance. In order to know the flashover characteristics this paper carried out experimental flashover mockup tests for jumper V-string with damaged insulators in the outdoors. And it suggests flashover characteristics of the 765kV jumper V-strings also. The results will be used in estimating the safety of live working for 765kV transmission lines.

  • The paper describes a new technique for the shape design of a bell-type porcelain locke insulator in contaminated environment. Early studies on the contamination performance of insulators indicated the need for an improvable shape to provide adequate insulation strength at normal operating voltages. In this paper, under lightly and heavily contaminated site severity, the variation of voltage distribution to leakage path at insulator surfaces analyzed by the complex admittance matrix using finite element method. By this results, the improvement of shape of insulators could be approached to the available condition in contaminated environments. In applicating to compare a standard disc type with a fog disc type insulator, this design technique is valid.

  • The main focus of this paper is on the study of the radiation effect upon the electrical property of a A-Kind insulator which is one of the organic insulators. The varnished cloth is so typical of the A-Kind insulators as to be selected for a sample. AC and Impluse voltage is applied to the variable Gamma ray irradiated dose samples with the constant time duration and the dielectric breakdown voltage are measured from the sample. The experimental data of the dielectric breakdown voltage are considerably decreased. The above conclusion is useful for the selection and application of the orgainc insulators under the irradiation effects.

  • The paper provides the results of failure analysis for the porcelain suspension insulators. The comparisons of characteristics were made as a function of failed and unfailed isulators which had been used in real distribution line. This paper also described the failure modes which could be occurred in the fields. The cracks inside cap were detected though measuring the resistance or the leakage current. The ratio of open porosity was calculated from the Archimedes Method. The failure analyses of porcelain suspension insulators were conducted from the various analysis method.

  • In this paper, it was tried to find out the minimum measurement range in the diagnosis of insulators using thermal image camera, for the purpose, leakage currents and thermal images were observed simultaneously for the insulators of which surface had been artificially polluted by salt fog. As a result. the surface temperature was increased with leakage currents. Also, the results of AC breakdown tests for the insulator of which temperature rise was more than 1 $^{\circ}C$ showed to be bad. Therefore, through the study on the relationship between leakage current, temperature rise and AC breakdown voltages, the diagnosis of the insulator in site would be possible using the thermal image camera.

  • Plasmons have conductive properties using the effect of amplifying magnetic and electric fields around metal particles. The collective movement of free electrons in metal particles induces and produces the generation of plasmon. Because the plasmon is concentrated on the surface of the nanoparticles, it is also called the surface plasmon. The polarizing effect of plasma on the surface is similar to the principle of surface currents occurring in insulators. In this study, it was found the conditions under which plasma is produced in SiOC insulators and studied the electrical properties of SiOC insulators that are improved in conductivity by plasmons. Due to the heat treatment temperature of thin film, plasma formation was shown differently, metal particles were used with normal aluminium, SiOC thin films were treated with heat at 60 degrees, conductivity was improved dramatically, and heat treatment at higher temperatures was found to be less conductivity.

  • Porcelain insulators are widely used in overhead high-voltage power transmission lines while providing adequate insulation to withstand switching and lightning over voltages. For the safety consideration, we proposed a novel insulator inspection method using harmonic, which is retrieved from the low frequency signal. The working principle of this new method is based on the relationship between the low frequency harmonic and the defective characteristic of the insulators. So, in this paper, the harmonic retrieval in the complex noise is solved with the HOC (High Order Cumulants) is extended. In the experiment, as one of our dedicated contribution, we illustrate low frequency harmonic and the defective characteristics of the porcelain insulators.
