  • In this paper, we studied on the electrical safety evaluations of transformer insulation cover. In order to take preventive measures against an electric shock disaster in 22.9kV transformer installation, we put the insulation cover on a transformer charging parts. It needs to be designed so that the insulation covers have superior properties such as, arc-resistance, weather-resistance and heat-resistance, because they are used until the damage and destruction occur. To establish the protection cover to reduce the electrical shock, we analyzed damage mechanism and risk factors which happened by structural fault of an insulation cover in this paper. Also, based on the experimental results, we are planing to suggest new improved insulation cover models.

  • $SF_6$ gas used widely as insulating component in electric power industry has excellent in insulation and arc extinguishing performance in gas-insulated switchgear. However, the concern about eco-friendly alternative gas is currently rising, because $SF_6$ gas is one of the main greenhouse gases. As one of the study for $SF_6$ free technology, composite-insulation technology is focused in this paper. To analyze the influence by epoxy thickness change, the composite-insulation composed of dry-air and epoxy was used in this paper. To analyze AC breakdown by the epoxy thickness, needle-plane electrode was used and needle was molded by epoxy. Under the gas pressure ranged from 0.1 to 0.6MPa, the breakdown voltage of dry-air were measured in AC electric field. The data of composite-insulation were acquired by changing the thickness of epoxy used in each composite-insulation under the same condition.

  • This paper addresses the efficiency of thermal insulation layers applied to protect structural elements strengthened by fiber-reinforced polymers (FRP) in the case of fire event. The paper presents numerical modeling and nonlinear analysis of reinforced concrete (RC) columns externally strengthened by FRP and protected by thermal insulation layers when subjected to elevated temperature specified by standard fire tests, in order to predict their residual capacity and fire endurance. The adopted numerical approach uses commercial software includes heat transfer, variation of thermal and mechanical properties of concrete, steel reinforcement, FRP and insulation material with elevated temperature. The numerical results show good agreement with published results of full-scale fire tests. A parametric study was conducted to investigate the influence of several variables on the structural response and residual capacity of insulated FRP-confined columns loaded by service loads when exposed to fire. The residual capacity of FRP-confined RC column was affected by concrete grade and insulation material and was shown to improve substantially by increasing the concrete cover and insulation layer thickness. By increasing the VG insulation layer thickness 15, 32, 44, 57 mm, the loss in column capacity after 5 hours of fire was 30%, 13%, 7% and 5%, respectively. The obtained results demonstrate the validity of the presented approach for estimation of fire endurance and residual strength, as an alternative for fire testing, and for design of fire protection layers for FRP-confined RC columns.

  • Insulation material absorption rate is closely related to thermal conductivity. In Korea, there is no study on the change of insulation material in a long-term continuous exposure environment. In this study, basic data on the long-term durability of insulation materials were obtained by measuring the absorption rate of insulation materials over time. For the purpose of providing, as a result of the measurement, PIR class2 No.2 and PIR noncombustible show similar absorption rate trends, which is thought to be due to the fact that both are made of rigid urethane foam, and flame retardant EPS has the highest absorption rate except for PF. This is thought to be because there is a space for absorption between the beads and the beads. In the case of XPS, it is thought that the reason for showing the lowest absorption rate is that because it is produced by extrusion, it has a high density and thus has less space for moisture to penetrate.

  • In order to develop a high voltage insulation material, spherical silicas with two average particle sizes of 5 ${\mu}m$ and 20 ${\mu}m$ were mixed in different mixing ratios (1:0, 0.7:0.3, 0.5:0.5, 0.3:0.7, 0:1) and their total filling content was fixed at 65 wt%. In order to observe the dispersion of the spherical silicas and the interfacial morphology between silica and epoxy matrix, field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) was used. The electrical insulation breakdown strength was estimated in sphere-plate electrodes with different insulation thicknesses of 1, 2, and 3 mm. Electrical insulation breakdown strength decreased with increasing mixing ratio of 5/20 ${\mu}m$ and the thickness dependence of the breakdown strength was also observed. The tensile strength of the neat epoxy was 82.8 MPa as average value and its increased with decreasing particles size and that of epoxy/silica (2 ${\mu}m$) was 107 MPa, which was 130.8% higher value.

  • Nanoporous silica aerogel insulation material is both lightweight and efficient; it has important value in the fields of aerospace, petrochemicals, electric metallurgy, shipbuilding, precision instruments, and so on. A theoretical calculation model and experimental measurement of equivalent thermal conductivity for nanoporous silica aerogel insulation material are introduced in this paper. The heat transfer characteristics and thermal insulation principle of aerogel nano are analyzed. The methods of SiO2 aerogel production are compared. The pressure range of SiO2 aerogel is 1Pa-atmospheric pressure; the temperature range is room temperature-900K. The pore diameter range of particle SiO2 aerogel is about 5 to 100 nm, and the average pore diameter range of about 20 ~ 40 nm. These results show that experimental measurements are in good agreement with theoretical calculation values. For nanoporous silica aerogel insulation material, the heat transfer calculation method suitable for nanotechnology can precisely calculate the equivalent thermal conductivity of aerogel nano insulation materials. The network structure is the reason why the thermal conductivity of the aerogel is very low. Heat transfer of materials is mainly realized by convection, radiation, and heat transfer. Therefore, the thermal conductivity of the heat transfer path in aerogel can be reduced by nanotechnology.

  • IInsulation material is generally used for preventing heat loss from heat transport fluids, and water absorption severely reduces the insulation property. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the amount of water absorption supplied by the pouring method and spraying method, to investigate the effects of water absorption on the thermal conductivity of an insulation material, and modeling the relation between water absorption and thermal conductivity. E-glass, a kind of glass fiber, and HYPERLITE, mainly composed of pearlite, are selected, to compare hygroscopic and insulation properties. E-glass is found to have much higher water absorptivity, compared to HYPERLITE. The thermal conductivity of the water-absorbed E-glass is increased by more than 150%, compared to that of no absorption, while variation of the thermal conductivity of HYPERLITE with water absorption is insignificant. A three-stage model of water absorption for thermal conductivity is developed, and the modeling results are found to be in good agreement with the experimental data.

  • A new method for the poling of piezoelectric ceramics with an air insulation medium in stead of silicon oil is described. A similar variation of electromechanical coupling coefficient $K_t$, for an air medium is observed in comparison to that of the material poled by the conventional poling method using a silicon oil medium. Different poling parameters such as dielectric constant $\varepsilon^T$ and frequency deviation ${\Delta}f$ are studied as well as the influence on the aging effect. The required poling factors to achieve the optimal piezoelectric characteristics are electric field, 2 kV/mm, temperature $100^{\circ}C$, and poling time 30 Min. From this result electric field 3 kV/mm atmosphere airs there being will be able to use with the polarization insulation medium about the piezoelectric material, confirmed.
