  • Stroke patients must do the rehabilitation exercise to recover their fingers' function using a rehabilitation robot. But the rehabilitation robots mostly have not the force sensors to control the applied force to each finger. Thus, in this paper, the development of a force sensor for thumb rehabilitation robot and four two-axis force sensors for four-finger rehabilitation robot were developed. The force sensor and four two-axis force sensors could be used to measure the applied force to each finger, and the forces could be used to control the applied forces to each sensor in rehabilitation exercise using in the rehabilitation robot. The developed sensors have non-linearlity error of less than 0.05 %, repeatability error of less than 0.03 %, and the interference error of two-axis force sensor is less than 0.2 %.

  • We have carried out the construction of the 154kV intelligent substation with KEPRI. The intelligent substation is built in Gochang testing facility of KEPCO and consists of electronic instruments for GIS(gas insulated switchgear), digital control panel, remote monitoring and diagnosis system, and digital relay system. Rogowski coil type CT(RCT) and capacitive voltage divider(CVD) are introduced compared with the instrument transformer of conventional type. Digital control panel(DCP) replaces the LCP(local control panel) which is drived for mechanical operation. For the monitoring of the condition of GIS and TR, various sensors are used. In this paper, we mention the synopsis and report the progress state of project.

  • This study explored the relationship of children's perceived social support and locus of control to their self-esteem. Subjects were 190 5th grade children. Instruments were the revised Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory (1967), Dubow and Ullman's Social Support Appraisal Scale (1989), and Crandall's Intellectual Achievement Responsibility (1965). Data were analysed by t-tests and Pearson's correlations. Children with high perceived social support had higher self-esteem than children with low perceived social support. Children who attributed their success to internal factors had high self-esteem; children who attributed their success to external factors had low self-esteem. Successful children who attributed their success to external factors had low self-esteem, regardless of their social support level. Children who attributed their success to their abilities or hard work had high self-esteem only if they received high social support.

  • A new Computer Integrated Surgical Robot system is composed of a surgical robot, a surgical planning system, and an optical tracking system. The system plays roles of an assisting surgeon and taking the place of surgeons for inserting a pedicle screw in spinal fusion. Compared to pure surgical navigation systems as well as conventional methods for spinal fusion, it is able to achieve better accuracy through compensating for the portending movement of the surgical target area. Furthermore, the robot can position and guide needles, drills, and other surgical instruments or conducts drilling/screwing directly. Preoperatively, the desired entry point, orientation, and depth of surgical tools for pedicle screw insertion are determined by the surgical planning system based on CT/MR images. Intra-operatively, position information on surgical instruments and targeted surgical areas is obtained from the navigation system. Two exemplary experiments employing the developed image-guided surgical robot system are conducted.

  • A system for 3-dimensional measurement of structures like buildings, pressure vessels and ships is presented. Two electric transits, which are latest surveying instruments, are controlled with a computer in order to scan the target surface of the object. An image processing unit relieves the operator of the burden of manual adjusting for forcusing the sighting tele-scope.

  • This study examined the moderated effects of self-control on the relationship between elementary school children's excessive use of the Internet and their stress levels. The participants were 403 elementary school children from Chungnam-do. The instruments used were the 'Internet Addiction Autodiagnosis Scale (K-Scale)', the 'Stress Scale' and the 'Self-control Rating Scale'. The collected data were analyzed by t test, F test and the Scheffe test for a post hoc test, Pearson's partial correlation and stepwise multiple regression, and Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ for reliability by SPSS program (17.0 version). The results were as follows : First, it was found that there were significant differences in terms of excessive use of the Internet, stress levels, and self-control by gender, grade, academic achievement, the beginning year of first Internet access and the number of hours of Internet usage hours per day. Second, there were significant positive correlations between excessive use of the Internet (r = .40, p < .001) and stress levels (r = .44, p < .001) and the immediate satisfaction of self-control. Finally, the immediate satisfaction of self control was seen to moderate the relationships between the total scores for the excessive use of the Internet and stress levels and between withdrawal of excessive use of the Internet and the accompanying stress levels.

  • Mouse embryos of 8-cell stage and compacted morulae(approximately 16 cells) containing different number of blastomeres were bisected and cultured in vitro to determine the developmental potentials of the divided embryos compared with those of unmanipulated control embryos. The results were as follows. 1. Micromanipulation was performed successfully by means of a simple manipulator which holds a fine glass, needle, without the use of any micro-instruments for support. 2. The percentage of bisected morulae with 7-9 blastomeres that developed to eu-blastocyst was 94.1% while only 64.8% of the bisected 8-cell embryos with 4 blastomeres developed to eublastocysts (p<0.05). 3. The percentage of eu-blastocysts decreased, while that of pseudoblastocysts and trophectodermal vesicle increased as the number of blastomeres decreased in the bisected embryos of the two stages. 4. The time of the blastocoele re-formation of the bisected and control embryos was not significantly different in morulae stage embryos, but it was significantly delayed in the 8-cell stage embryos (Eu-B, Pseudo-B) compared with control embryos (P<0.01, P<0.05 respectively).

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors influencing self care in ostomates, to provide the basic data for self care promoting intervention, The subject of this study were 110 ostomates living in Deagu and Deajon, during the period from March to April. 1998. The instruments for this study were the self care scale developed by Lee Ji Sook(1990), the family support scale by Lee Ji Sook(1990), the self esteem scale by Rosenberg(1965) and the hope scale by Nowotny(1989). The instruments for this study were pretested on the ostomates for reliability and validity. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regression. The results are as follows : 1. The average score on the self care was 2.90. 2. There were significant positive correlations between self care and other factors self esteem(r=.652 P<.05), family support (r=.632 P<.05) and hope(r= .604 P<.05). 3. The variables that affected the self care of the subjects were self esteem, hope, family support, economical status, fecal control type and monthly participation in ostomate meetings in that order. These variance of self care was R2=62 percent by calculating the sum of those variables. The results of this study might help nurses and other health providers to develop interventions for the self care reinforcement of ostomates.

  • Real time water quality monitoring system in a large area has been developed. The system is hierarchically composed of CCMS(Central Control and Monitoring System), data loggers and water pollution measuring instruments, which enable systematic and efficient data collection and management. Also in this work we designed and constructed the instruments for measuring basic elements in water quality such as salinity, electrical conductivity, temperature, dissolved oxygen and the amount of coli in water.

  • Initial alignment of gimballed INS is accomplished by the gyrocompassing techniques. These cannot be used in the case of strapdown system where the inertial instruments are directly strapped down to a vehicle frame. The basic objective of this paper is the development of digital methods performing the initial alignment of a SDINS from vibration and sway currupted data on the launch pad.
