  • Classroom response systems (CRS) have been proven to have positive educational effects on student engagement and participation by allowing immediate feedback to both students and instructors. We explore the use of a chatbot and slide widget-based CRS to overcome some of the challenges of existing mobile-based CRSs while retaining their advantages. Our system uses widely available instant messaging services and operates web-based slide widgets that can be seamlessly integrated into instructors' slides to visualize student feedback in various formats. The student survey results indicate that our system is as effective as conventional CRSs in promoting student engagement and participation.

  • In this paper, we apply data mining techniques and machine learning algorithms using R software, which is used to predict, here we applied a regression model to test some factor on the dataset for which we assumed that it effects student performance. Model was built on an existing dataset which contains many factors and the final grades. The factors tested are the attention to higher education, absences, study time, parent's education level, parent's jobs, and the number of failures in the past. The result shows that only study time and absences can affect the students' performance. Prediction of student academic performance helps instructors develop a good understanding of how well or how poorly the students in their classes will perform, so instructors can take proactive measures to improve student learning. This paper also focuses on how the prediction algorithm can be used to identify the most important attributes in a student's data.

  • Education in Korean universities is rapidly expanding to online education due to COVID-19. In response to such changes, this study proposed a means of improving the learning management system of Korean universities and analyzed the effects of using the system. The important results of this study are as follows: the learning management system was composed of 'pre-class learning,' 'team activity,' and 'participation learning' to support team-based learning. The effects that the users (instructors, learners) can obtain by adopting team-based learning and using the system were analyzed. The study concludes that for instructors, teaching work may be alleviated. For learners, it was demonstrated that they could more easily access and use data required for their education.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop an evaluation method for online design education. Online education has established itself as the primary form in the educational field, however, there are unsatisfactory response from instructors and students due to rapid conversion of online education. Due to the transition of educational method, online class contents have become optimized and online educational experiences became accumulated. However, clear education criteria is essential. This study states importance of two parts: establishing an evaluation system based on design thinking for online design education and finding appropriate online platforms for interaction between instructors and students. The research results provide implications for ensuring the efficiency of design education and are expected to contribute significantly to the future education field.

  • The study was conducted to find out the interaction between learning styles, and types of task on satisfaction and achievement in Chinese learning on Facebook. 44 students from D University in Seoul, Korea finished the questionnaires. To measure the participants' learning styles and satisfaction, the learning style instrument and satisfaction instrument were used. The data received were analyzed to find out the interaction between learning styles, and types of task on satisfaction and achievement. Through the analysis, the study suggests that, in the SNS environment for learning, instructors should focus on more on types of tasks than learning styles. Learning styles are important, however, for new pedagogy for one new learning environment, types of task are definitely more important than learning styles. Depending on the study results, the instructors should pay more attention to types of task, and they should also use different strategies to facilitate the contents of tasks to improve achievement and satisfaction in an SNS environment.

  • Most of the learning analytics research has investigated how quantitative data can affect learning. The information that is provided to learners has been determined by teachers and researchers based on reviews of the previous literature. However, there have been few studies on standard learning activities that are performed in e-learning environments independent of the teaching methods or on learning behavior data that are obtained through learning analytics. This study aims to explore the general learning activities and learning behaviors that can be used in the analysis of learning data. Learning activities and learning behavior are defined in conjunction with the concept of learning analytics to identify the differences between teachers' and learners' learning activities. Learning activities and learning behavior were verified by an expert panel review in an e-learning environment. The differences between instructors and learners in their usage were analyzed using a survey method. As results, 8 learning activities and 29 learning behaviors were validated. The Research has shown that instructors' degree of utilization is higher than that of the learners.

  • The current study investigated whether SNS such as Twitter can be an assisting tool to compensate the limitations of online learning from social-affective and cognitive perspectives. Such limitations include low level of motivation to participate, feeling of isolation, rare exchanges of ideas and feedback from peers or instructors. This paper reports findings from a research study on the use of Twitter in online learning in Higher Education. Survey and subsequent interviews were conducted to examine students' perceptions about the cognitive and social-affective aspects of their participation in Twitter activities. Some of the challenges and potentials in integrating Twitter into online course are also addressed. It can be concluded that Twitter contributes not only to building close relationships among peers and instructors but also to opening a communication channel that can extend cognitive potentials.

  • The purpose of this study was to suggest instructional strategies applicable to Blended e-Learning. After examining how traditional universities utilized e-learning, it is attempted to have an interview with three working-level people and seven instructors, who widely applied e-learning to their classes. As a result, it is found that the instructors had some wrong understanding of e-learning, and their wrong perception was rooted in their lack of experience of providing e-learning and their reliance on fragmentary, superficial information. It deterred them from putting e-learning into active practice. Besides, it's additionally attempted to describe how blended e-learning could respectively be applied to different types of lectures, how to improve its social presence and how it could be used for evaluation

  • Knowledge can be more meaningful when it is shaped and personalized through interaction with others. Implementation of open learning environments such as open courseware or shared knowledge communities has gradually become more common. A case study which investigated instructors' experiences and perceptions of publishing and using open courseware in the classroom was conducted at a university in Korea. Responses from participating students and an evaluation group regarding how they perceived open learning environments were also examined. Based on the inductive analysis of the data, this study discusses advantages and challenges of publishing open courseware and collaborative learning environments. Also, practical guidelines for developing reusable learning materials are suggested.
