  • One of the activities that are almost used by instructors to assess the undergraduate learners (students) performances in the teaching and learning system is performing researches. It's most probably that learners prepare a presentation for the research, through which they conduct their ideas to the audiences (the instructor and their colleagues). Recently, a phenomenon was monitored regarding the research preparation process practiced by the learners, that the majority go directly to the websites, in which they could easily find tons of attractive and ready-made information that fill the gaps of their heavy homework gained from several courses. It's a convenient activity for learners to go through this easy path to fulfil their duties, but the issue is that the output of such path is so weak. The gained information in this case is so shallow, loose, and could easily been evaporated after a while. There is a need to examine the impact of a missing skill in the current learners' generation: the reading practice. It's noticed that library visits to read books were strongly decreased compared with what was happening in the older generations, where the piece of information was hard to collect, but in the same time, is hard to be forgotten. As a part of the teaching and learning process, and through a college of Engineering, this study will introduce results of the comparison between the outputs of the two methods of collecting information: through the web, and through the traditional book reading. This is to highlight the importance of reading through an experiment applied on one section of students who were asked to prepare a research from a certain chapter of their textbook, and compare that with a prior research they had prepared from the websites. The results were impressive and reflected the importance of the missed reading activity.

Accordingly, there has been active research to understand the society and culture of North Korea, it has been attempted to have comparative study about nursing education to increase understanding between South and North Korea. In the current educational system, 12 years of education is required for entering a nursing college or university in South Korea, but there are only 10 years for entering nursing college in North Korea. After finishing undergraduate studies one can enter graduate school for a masters degree and or a doctoral degree, but there is a longitudinal relation to medical education in North Korea. Regarding the number of nursing educational institutions, there are 50 BSN programs & 61 Diploma programs in South Korea and 11 Diploma programs in North Korea. In regards to curriculum, South Korea has diverse subjects for general education for freshmen, then is subjects to basic specialities sophomore year, and speciality subject and clinical practices from junior year corresponding to the student's intentions. North Korea has minor subjects for general education and basic specialities in freshmen, speciality subjects sophomore year, speciality subjects and clinical practice in the junior year that may not correspond with the student's intentions. The most outstanding difference in the curriculum is North Korea has various subjects for oriental medicine with clinical application. North Korea also does not teach computer science and English is at a very low level. In clinical practice, South Korea has various settings for clinical practice including community health institutions under the nursing professor or clinical instructor. However, North Korea has limited settings for clinical practice (general hospitals) under a doctor's instruction. Also both South and North Korea have a similar licensing system. Therefore, there must be many more studies regarding North Korea, especially in nursing and nursing education in order to decrease differences and confusion between the Koreas and to prepare for a future unification.

The teachers who were attendee of the program did pre-test before the program and post-test after the program. They wrote the opinions on the pre-developed items which had many errors in the beginning and discussed their opinions each others in the middle of program. The differences between pre-test and post-test and between opinions in the beginning and in the middle were analysed. The first result of the study is that the teacher's professional competency which is evaluated as self-perceived points is improved with regard to understanding the standardized test, item difficulty and item discrimination. Secondly, the proportion of the opinion with concrete reasons is increased as the program progressed. Thirdly, the effective elements of the program are the discussion in the group, discussion between groups, and feedback from the instructor. But the ineffective element of the program is the insufficient time for practicing.

This program refers to Triangle Leadership that consists of three categories: finding individual strengths and self-esteem to enhance self-leadership, constructing a vision and roadmap to develop transformational leadership, and stress and teamwork management for competent servant leadership. In order to improve its completeness, focus group interview was adopted for 10 employees in the center and supervised by two professionals. The program was also conducted twice for 142 members of multicultural family support centers and healthy family support centers across the Korea. The result of implementation (with regard to the satisfaction level for the contents of the program) showed that both first and second rounds had improvement in all three categories compared to what was expected before taking the education program. The level of satisfaction for instructor and program operation was more enhanced (as well for the second time) compared to the first round. The evidence of program effectiveness indicates that there is a high anticipation for another approach that suits for the circumstances and requirement of centers and facilitator training.

  • Recently, the current trend for computer based learning is moving from CAI environment to WBI environment. Most web documents for WBI learning are collected by aid of search engine. Instructors use those documents as learning materials after they evaluate availability of retrieved web documents. But, this method has the following problems. First, we search repeatedly the web documents selected by instructor. Second, there is a need for another course of instruction design in order to suggest the web documents for learner. Third, it is very difficult to analyze for relevance between the web documents and test results. In this work, we suggest WAILS(Web Agent Instruction Learning System) that retrieves web documents for WBI learning and guides learning course for learners. WAILS collects web documents for WBI learning by aid of web agent. Then, instructors can evaluate them and suggest to learners by using instruction-learning generating machine. Instructors retrieve web documents and the instruction-learning design at the same time. This can facilitate WBI learning.
