Graphical Representation of the Instantaneous Compensation Power Flow for Single-Phase Active Power Filters

  • The conventional graphical representation of the instantaneous compensation power flow for single-phase active power filters(APFs) simply represents the active power flow and the reactive power flow which flowing between the power source and the active filter / the load. But, this method does not provide the information about the rectification mode and the compensation mode of APFs, especially, the loss for each mode was not considered at all. This is very important to understand the compensation operation characteristics of APFs. Therefore, this paper proposes the graphical representation of the instantaneous compensation power flow for single-phase APFs considering the instantaneous rectification mode and the instantaneous inversion mode. Three cases are verified in this paper - without compensation, with compensation of the active power 'p' and the fundamental reactive power 'q', and with compensation of only the distorted power 'h'. To ensure the validity of the proposed approach, PSIM simulation is achieved. As a result, we could confirm that the proposed approach was easy to explain the instantaneous compensation power flow considering the instantaneous rectification mode and the instantaneous inversion mode of APFs, also, Total Harmonic Distortion(THD)/Power Factor (P.F) and Fast Fourier Transform(FFT) analysis were compared for each case.

  • The goal of this paper is to present instantaneous compensating power flow of active power filters(APFs) by graphical method that could be practicable to compensate the power in both case of behaving in instantaneous rectifying mode and instantaneous inverting mode. To ensure the validity of the proposed method, computer simulation is achieved. Proposed method can be present more exquisite and physically meaningful power flow than conventional method in instantaneous compensating power flow Graph of APFs.

Comparison of Two Reactive Power Definitions in DFIG Wind Power System under Grid Unbalanced Condition

  • This paper compares two instantaneous reactive power definitions in DFIG wind turbine with a back-to-back three-level neutral-point clamped voltage source converter under unbalanced grid conditions. In general, conventional definition of instantaneous reactive power is obtained by taking an imaginary component of complex power. The other definition of instantaneous reactive power can be developed based on a set of voltages lagging the grid input voltages by 90 degree. A complex quantity referred as a quadrature complex power is defined. Proposed definition of instantaneous reactive power is derived by taking a real component of quadrature complex power. The characteristics of two instantaneous reactive power definitions are compared using the ripple-free stator active power control algorithm in DFIG. Instantaneous reactive power definition based on quadrature complex power has a simpler current reference calculation control block. Ripple of instantaneous active and reactive power has the same magnitude unlike in conventional definition under grid unbalance. Comparison results of two instantaneous reactive power definitions are verified through simulation.

  • 본 연구에서는 왜형되고 불평형인 전원의 정상분 순시전압 검출기법(Detection Method of Instantaneous Positive Sequence Voltage : PSD)에 의한 3상 3선 능동전력필터 시스템을 제작하였다. 불평형 및 왜형된 전원전압은 PSD에 의하여 정상분 순시전압을 실시간으로 검출한 후 순시전력이론의 상변환 행렬을 연산하고 있으며, 따라서 왜형되고 불평형된 전원조건에 순시전력이론을 적용하기 위하여 종전의 순시전력이론의 수학적인 구조를 변경할 필요가 없다. 본 연구에서 구현된 방법의 타당성을 입증하기 위해, 왜형된 B상 전압을 20% 증가시킨 전원과 불평형 비선형 부하 조건하에서 정상상태 및 과도상태의 실험을 수행하였으며, PSD가 없는 방법에 비하여 구현된 방법의 유용성을 입증할 수 있었다.

시간영역에서 순시 유효/무효전력을 이용한 마이크로그리드의 단독운전 판단 (Islanding Detection for a Micro-Grid based on the Instantaneous Active and Reactive Powers in the Time Domain)

  • Correct and fast detection of a micro-grid (MG) islanding is essential to the MG since operation, control and protection of the MG depend on an operating mode i.e., an interconnected mode or an islanding mode. When islanding occurs, the frequency of the point of common coupling (PCC) is not the nominal frequency during the transient state owing to the frequency rise or drop of generators in the MG. Thus, the active and reactive power calculated by the frequency domain based method such as Fourier Transform might contain some errors. This paper proposes an islanding detection algorithm for the MG based on the instantaneous active and reactive powers delivered to the dedicated line in the time domain. During the islanding mode, the instantaneous active and reactive powers delivered to the dedicated line are constants, which depend on the voltage of the PCC and the impedance of the dedicated line. In this paper, the instantaneous active and reactive powers are calculated in the time domain and used to detect islanding. The performance of the proposed algorithm is verified under various scenarios including islanding conditions, fault conditions and load variation using the PSCAD/EMTDC simulator. The results indicate that the algorithm successfully detects islanding for the MG.

A New Control Method for a Single-Phase Hybrid Active Power Filter based on a Rotating Reference Frame

  • To get instantaneous reference data in a single power system with vector space phasors, the instantaneous load current is adopted as a phase and another new signal, which is delayed through filtering by the phase-delay property of a low-pass filter, is used as the secondary phase. Because the two-phases have a different phase, the instantaneous value of the harmonic current can be obtained without a time-delay in calculation. The reference voltage is created by multiplying the coefficient k by the compensation current using the rotating reference frame synchronized with the source-frequency. To verify the validity of the proposed control method, experiments are carried out on a prototype of the single-phase hybrid active power filter system.

  • An important assumption for the active power filter design using instantaneous power theory and the d-q transformation method in a 3-phase power system is based on balanced 3-phase system. However, under pratical conditions, the 3-phase power system can not be continuously balanced due to unbalanced loading. In this paper, a method to control the 3-phase active power filer using instantaneous power theory and the d-q transformation under unbalanced power system is presented and the theoretical results are verified by simulated results.

  • Instantaneous active/reactive powers are defined in three phase four wire systems. The definition can be generally applicable to any source conditions and load conditions including nonlinear circuits. The zero-sequence power resulted from the zero-sequence voltage and zero-sequence current between two sub-systems affects both to the instantaneous active and reactive powers. The zero-sequence current can be controlled by compensation of the reactive power without power storage elements.

상관함수에 의한 순시전력이론을 이용한 DSP 능동전력필터 (A DSP Based Active Power Filter with Instantaneous Correlation Power Theory)

  • 본 연구에서는 시간영역에서 전력이 해석되어지므로 이해하기 쉽고, 비교적 계측하기 용이한 상관함수에 의한 순시전력이론에 대해서 고찰하였다. 상관함수에 의한 순시전력이론은 시간영역에서 전압과 전류의 자기상관함수와 상호상관함수에 의해서 전력과의 전압과 상관성에 따라 상관전력과 비상관 전력으로 분해된다. 분해된 두 가지 전력성분으로부터 비선형 부항의 특성에 따라 전력과 전류를 유효성분, 기본파 무효성분 그리고 고조파성분 등 3성분으로 분해한다. 능동전력필터는 그 보상특성상 전력과 전류의 3성분만을 다루며, 실시간 제어를 위해 그외의 여러 복잡한 그리고 구현의 어려움이 있는 전력모델은 경제적이지 못하다. 상관함수적인 순시전력이론에 의해 분석된 전력성분들의 타당성을 입증하기 위해서 전압형 DSP능동전력필터를 제작하였다. 싸이리스터 제어 유도전동기 구동시스템의 전력을 제안된 순시전력이론에 의해 3성분으로 분해한 후, 이들 성분중에서 보상기준전류로 고조파성분과 기본파 무효성분을 각각 제어하여 그 보상결과로부터 타당성을 입증하였다.
