Instability analysis of viscoelastic CNTs surrounded by a thermo-elastic foundation

  • Static and dynamic instability of a viscoelastic carbon nanotube (CNT) embedded on a thermo-elastic foundation are investigated, in this research. The CNT is modeled based on Euler-Bernoulli beam (EBB) and nonlocal small scale elasticity theory is utilized to analyze the structure. Governing equations of the system are derived using Hamilton's principle and differential quadrature (DQ) method is applied to solve the partial differential equations. The effects of variable axial load and diverse boundary conditions on static/vibration instability are studied. To verify the result of the DQ method, the Galerkin weighted residual approach is used for the instability analysis. It is observed appropriate agreement for results of two different solution methods and satisfactory accuracy with those obtained in prior studies. The results of this work could be useful for engineers and designers in order to produce and design nano/micro structures in thermo-elastic medium.

  • 본 연구의 목적은 수평 Blasius유동의 열적 불안정성 문제에서 유동방향 좌표 에도 의존하는 교란양을 최초로 도입함으로써 보다 합리적인 안정성 해석을 수행하고 그 결과를 기존의 실험적 및 이론적인 자료들과 비교하며 이를 토대로 한 보다 실제적 인 열전달 상관관계를 얻고자 하는데 있다.

The Effect of Psychological Well-Being on Life Satisfaction for Employees

  • Purpose - This study investigated small business members' cognition of happiness in accordance with changes of employment environment at the nation's industrialization. The study verified effects of labor workers' psychological wellbeing conditions upon life satisfaction as well as the effects of job burden and family burden of employment instability. Research design, data, and methodology - The subjects were small business workers in Seoul and Metropolitan areas. The author collected 150 copies of effective questionnaires. Regression analysis, hierarchical analysis and 3-stage mediation regression analysis were done. Results - The findings of this research was that psychological wellbeing factors alleviated job burden and family burden to increase satisfaction with life. Employment instability moderated between job burden and satisfaction with life, job burden between environmental control and satisfaction with life, and family burden between goal and satisfaction of life. Members needed sub factors of psychological wellbeing, especially reflection for self-acceptance. Conclusions - This study inspected effects of small business workers' psychological wellbeing upon life satisfaction at changes of management environment as well as labor environment to verify effects of job burden, family burden and employment instability and to find out conditions of human resources management from point of view of small business and workers.

연소 불안정 예측을 위한 열음향 해석 모델 - Part 1 : 선형 안정성 해석 (Thermoacoustic Analysis Model for Combustion Instability Prediction - Part 1 : Linear Instability Analysis)

  • 가스터빈 희박 예혼합 연소기에서 발생하는 연소 불안정의 고유 주파수 및 초기 성장률의 예측을 위하여 선형 열음향 해석 모델이 소개되었다. 모델 검증을 위하여 입출구 조건이 잘 정의되고, 상대적으로 이전 연구 결과에서 적용된 연소기에 비하여 구조가 간단한 모델 연소기가 선정되었다. 정의된 연소기에서 음향 해석을 위한 선형 관계식이 유도되었고, 이를 통하여 선형 안정성 해석 방안이 제시되었다. 해석 결과 연소 불안정의 특성에 대한 전체적인 변화 경향은 성공적으로 예측하였으나, 주파수의 절대값에 있어서는 실제 실험 결과보다 다소 작은 값을 예측하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 주파수의 예측 오차는 짧은 화염보다는 긴 화염에서 더욱 두드러지는 것으로 나타났다.

4 Slotted Tube형 고체 추진기관의 연소불안정 거동 현상 분석 (An Analysis on Combustion Instability in Solid Rocket Motor of 4 Slotted Tube Grain)

  • 직경 대 길이비(L/D)의 값이 큰 고체 추진기관에서는 축방향 연소불안정 현상이 발생할 가능성이 높다. 일반적으로 이러한 현상을 억제하기 위해 추진제에 금속입자를 포함시키거나 그레인 설계시 축방향 압력 진동을 억제할 수 있도록 형상을 고안한다. Slotted-Tube형 그레인을 적용한 고체 추진기관은 연소시 Slot의 영향으로 인해 축방향 1차 모드 압력진동이 억제되나 연소관 후방 내열재 삭마로 인해 공동이 형성되어 Vortex Shedding에 의한 2차 모드 압력진동이 증폭될 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 4 Slotted Tube형 고체 추진기관의 설계 개선을 통해 Vortex Shedding을 억제하여 연소불안정 현상을 개선하였다.

Parametric resonance of a spinning graphene-based composite shaft considering the gyroscopic effect

  • In this research, for the first time the instability boundaries for a spinning shaft reinforced with graphene nanoplatelets undergone the principle parametric resonance are determined and examined taking into account the gyroscopic effect. In this respect, the extracted equations of motion in our previous research (Ref. Asadi et al. (2023)) are implemented and efficiently upgraded. In the upgraded discretized equations the effect of the Rayleigh's damping and the varying spinning speed is included that leads to a different dynamical discretized governing equations. The previous research was about the free vibration analysis of spinning graphene-based shafts examined by an eigen-value problem analysis; while, in the current research an advanced mechanical analysis is addressed in details for the first time that is the dynamics instability of the aforementioned shaft subjected to the principal parametric resonance. The spinning speed of the shaft is considered to be varied harmonically as a function of time. Rayleigh's damping effect is applied to the governing equations in order to regard the energy loss of the system. Resorting to Bolotin's route, Floquet theory and β-Newmark method, the instability region and its accompanied boundaries are defined. Accordingly, the effects of the graphene nanoplatelet on the instability region are elucidated.

  • This note Presents sufficient conditions for Lyapunov's stability and instability of a class of nonlinear nonautonomous second-order ordinary differential equations. Such a class includes as particular cases a remarkably large number of differential equations with specific physical applications. Two successive nonlinear transformations are applied to the original differential equation in order to convert it into a more convenient form for stability analysis purposes. The obtained stability / instability conditions depend closely on the parameterization of the original differential equation.

  • A reaction-diffusion model with spatiotemporal delay modeling the dynamical behavior of a single species is investigated. The parameter regions for the local stability, global stability and instability of the unique positive constant steady state solution are derived. The conditions of the occurrence of Turing (diffusion-driven) instability are obtained. The existence of time-periodic solutions, the existence and nonexistence of nonconstant positive steady state solutions are proved by bifurcation method and energy method. Numerical simulations are presented to verify and illustrate the theoretical results.

Atlantoaxial instability with hydrocephalus in a dog

  • An 8-month-old 3.15 kg female Cocker-spaniel with history of ataxia referred to the Veterianary Medical Teaching Hospital, Chungnam National University. There were no abnormalities in CBC and serum chemical analysis. Agenesis of dens was found on dorsoventral view in cervical radiography. Compressed cervical spinal cord and enlarged cerebral ventricle were observed in magnetic resonance imaging. It was diagnosed as atlantoaxial instability with hydrocephalus. For conservative therapy, neck brace was applied and diuretics and prednisolone were administered. The dog's ataxia became better gradually.

  • This study provides analytical evaluation of the Dual-Ann Work Module. The current hydraulic system was modeled using the HyPneu and analyzed to find the cause of the instability. The cause of the instability was determined to be primarily an interacting involving the pilot operated check valves and the counterbalance valves for fail safe mode of operation. A new design concept was developed to eliminate the potential for unstable operation while adequately meeting the need for a fail-safe feature.
