Resource Constrained Dynamic Multi-Projects Scheduling(RCDMPS) is intended to minimize the total processing time(makespan) of two or more projects sequentially arriving at the shop under restricted resources. The aim of this paper is to develop the new Tabu Search heuristic for RCDMPS to minimize makespan. We propose the insertion method to generate the neighborhood solutions in applying the Tabu Search for the RCDMPS and the diversification strategy to search the solution space diversely. The proposed diversification strategy apply the dynamic tabu list that the tabu list size is generated and renewed at each iteration by the complexity of the project, and change the proposed tabu attribute. In this paper, We use the dynamic tabu list for the diversification strategy and intensification strategy in the tabu search, and compare with other dispatching heuristic method to verify that the new heuristic method minimize the makespan of the problem.

We have described the optimal process route selection model for the PCB(printed circuit board) auto-insertion line. This PCB assembly line is known as a FFL(flexible flow line) which produces a range of products keeping the flow shop properties. Under FFL environments, we have emphasized the balancing of work-loads in order to maximize total productivity of PCB auto-insertion line. So we have developed a heuristic algorithm based on a work-order selection rule and min-max concept for the job route selection model.
A printed circuit board auto-insertion line consists of several processes of identical machines and produces several different types of PCBs. Each board must be processed by at most one machine in each process. So, we call it a flexible flow line. The load balancing is the one of the most important issues in the FFL which has many sequential processes. Therefore we have represented the job route selection model to balance the load of inter-process in the PCB auto-insertion line, and validated it by simulation.

This paper dealt with a kind of heterogeneous vehicle routing problem with known demand and time deadline of customers. The customers are supposed to have one of tight deadline and loose deadline. The demand of customers with tight deadline must be fulfilled in the deadline. However, the late delivery is allowed to customers with loose deadline. That is, the paper suggests a model to minimize total acquisition cost, total travel distance and total violation time for a fleet size and mix vehicle routing problem with time deadline, and proposes a heuristic algorithm for the model. The proposed algorithm consists of two phases, i.e. generation of an initial solution and improvement of the current solution. An initial solution is generated based on a modified insertion heuristic and iterative Improvement procedure is accomplished using neighborhood generation methods such as swap and reallocation. The proposed algorithm is evaluated using a well known numerical example.
Demand Responsive Transit (DRT) services are becoming necessary as part of not only alternative transportation means for elderly and mobility impaired passengers, but also sustainable and flexible transportation options in urban area due to the development of communication technologies and Location Based Services (LBS). It is difficult to investigate the system performance regarding vehicle operational schemes and vehicle routing algorithms due to the lack of commercial software to support door-to-door vehicle simulation for larger area. This study proposes a simulation framework to evaluate innovative and flexible transit systems focusing on various vehicle routing algorithms, which describes data-type requirements for simulating door-to-door service on demand. A simulation framework is applied to compare two vehicle dispatch algorithms, Nearest Vehicle Dispatch (NVD) and Insertion Heuristic (IH) for real-time shared-taxi service in Seoul. System productivity and efficiency of the shared-taxi service are investigated, comparing to the conventional taxi system.

Home care, known also as domiciliary care, is part of the community care service that is a responsibility of the local government authorities in the UK as well as many other countries around the world. The aim is to provide the care and support needed to assist people, particularly older people, people with physical or learning disabilities and people who need assistance due to illness to live as independently as possible in their own homes. It is performed primarily by care workers visiting clients' homes where they provide help with daily activities. This paper is concerned with the dispatching of care workers to clients in an efficient manner. The optimized routine for each care worker determines a schedule to achieve the minimum total cost (in terms of distance traveled) without violating the capacity and time window constraints. A collaborative population-based meta-heuristic called Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is applied to solve the problem. A particle is defined as a multi-dimensional point in space which represents the corresponding schedule for care workers and their clients. Each dimension of a particle represents a care activity and the corresponding, allocated care worker. The continuous position value of each dimension determines the care worker to be assigned and also the assignment priority. A heuristic assignment scheme is specially designed to transform the continuous position value to the discrete job schedule. This job schedule represents the potential feasible solution to the problem. The Earliest Start Time Priority with Minimum Distance Assignment (ESTPMDA) technique is developed for generating an initial solution which guides the search direction of the particle. Local improvement procedures (LIP), insertion and swap, are embedded in the PSO algorithm in order to further improve the quality of the solution. The proposed methodology is implemented, tested, and compared with existing solutions for some 'real' problem instances.
This paper presents two analytical approaches to determine the vehicle fleet size for container shuttle service. The shuttle service can be defined as the repetitive travel between the designated places during working period. In the first approach, the transportation model is adopted in order to determine the number of vehicles required. Its advantages and disadvantages in practical application are also discussed. In the second approach, a logical network which is oriented on job is transformed from a physical network which is focused on demand site. Nodes on the logical network represent jobs which include loaded travel, loading and unloading and arcs represent empty travel for the next jobs which include loaded travel, loading and unloading and arcs represent empty travel for the next job. Then a mathematical formulation is constructed similar to the multiple traveling salesman problem (TSP). A solution procedure is carried out based on the well-known insertion heuristic with the real world data.
This paper presents a two-phase method for the vehicle routing problems with time windows(VRPTW). In a supply chain management(SCM) environment, timely distribution is very important problem faced by most industries. The VRPTW is associated with SCM for each customer to be constrained the time of service. In the VRPTW, the objective is to design the least total travel time routes for a fleet of identical capacitated vehicles to service geographically scattered customers with pre-specified service time windows. The proposed approach is based on ant colony optimization(ACO) and improvement heuristic. In the first phase, an insertion based ACO is introduced for the route construction and its solutions is improved by an iterative random local search in the second phase. Experimental results show that the proposed two-phase method obtains very good solutions with respect to total travel time minimization.

The most transport companies are placing increasing emphasis on powerful new techniques for planning their vehicle operations. They have tried to improve their vehicle control and customer service capability by adopting tile advanced information technology, such as GPS(Global Position System) and Using Digital Map. But researches on the VRSP(vehicle routing St schedule problem) in this situation were very few. The purpose of this research is to develop vehicle scheduling heuristics for making a real-time dynamic VRSP under the situation that GPS and using Digital Map are equipped to the transport company. Modified savings techniques are suggested for the heuristic method and an insertion technique is suggested for the dynamic VRSP. The urgent vehicle schedule is based on the regular vehicle schedule. This study suggest on VRSP system using GPS and Digital Map and the performance of the suggested heuristics is illustrated through an real case example.
The vehicle routing problem with simultaneous pick-up and delivery (VRPSPD) is a variant of the vehicle routing problem (VRP) that customers require simultaneously a pick-up and delivery service. The main objective of VRPSPD is to minimize a cost of routes satisfying many constraints. Traditional VRPSPD have been dealt with a static environment. The static environment means that a routing data and plan cannot be changed. For example, it is difficult to change a vehicle's routing plan so that a vehicle serves the pick-up demands of new customers during the delivery service. Therefore, traditional approach is not suitable for dynamic environments. To solve this problem, we propose a novel approach for finding efficient routes using a real-time re-routing heuristics based on the Location Based Service (LBS). Our re-routing heuristics can generate a new route for vehicle that satisfies a new customer's demand considering the current geographic location of a vehicle. Experimental results show that our methodology can reduce the traveling cost of vehicles comparing with other previous methods.
