In this paper, we have designed and fabricated a new type power divider to be efficient to a size and electrical performance by folding each quarter-wavelength 70.7 Ω section into a tightly-coupled "meander-line" and inserting a slit. In this type, because of coupling, the electrical phase of quarter -wavelength line and the performance change. For this reason, with the inductive slit and the tuning of quarter-wavelength line length, we have compensated for those. The inductance value of the inserted slit is decided by its width and depth, therefore, we could improve the electrical performance through optimization of inductance. Input and output return losses of the designed power divider were -34.2 dB, -34.3 dB respectively, and isolation was -36.7 dB at 1.75 GHz. Besides, a new design approach reduced occupied substrate area by 3:1 approximately.

Background: Caudal block is useful when anesthesia for surgery or treatment for chronic pain is needed, but this procedure has a failure rate of up to 25% even when it performed byan experienced physician. This high failure rate is usually due to improper needle placement. Methods: After gaining approval of the ethics committee, 46 patients received caudal blocks under ultrasound guidance; these were performed after the anatomical structures in the sacral hiatus had been measured with ultrasound. All these procedures were performed by the same anesthesiologist. The position and direction of the needle were identified using fluoroscopy by injecting a radio-opaque contrast through the needle. The time taken from thelidocaine injection to verification of the needle was measured and the planned nerve block was then carried out. Results: All cases of needle insertion into the sacral canal under ultrasound guidance were successful. The average duration of the procedure and the trial count were $134.1{\pm}10.1seconds$ and $1.2{\pm}0.1$, respectively. In 12 of the 46 cases (26%), the needle deviated either left or right in the sacral canal, so the direction of the needle had to be adjusted. The distance between two cornua, the depth of the sacral hiatus and the thickness and length of the sacrococcygeal ligament were $17.1{\pm}0.4$, $3.9{\pm}0.3$, $2.3{\pm}0.1$ and $24.9{\pm}0.9mm$, respectively. Conclusions: Ultrasound guidance can increase the success rate of inserting a needle into the sacral canal. However, even when ultrasound is used, the needle can deviate either left or right in the sacral canal.

Background: The production method of ginseng seedlings for ginseng cultivation is very important to ensure healthy rooting system as well as high quality, and yield of the resultant plants. This study was carried out to compare the growth characteristics of 2-year-old ginseng plants that were produced from seedlings grown in self soil nursery (SSN), nursery soil (NS) or hydroponic culture (HC). Methods and Results: The shading prop used was composed of four-layered 4 polyethylene (blue 3 + black 1) shade screen. The management of main field was done by inserting oil cake (1,200 kg/10 a) and then allowing Sudan grass to grow for a year. Seedling transplantation was carried out on April 6. Root growth was measured on October 25. Root weight was observed to be excellent at 6.0 g, following SSN transplantation. Root length was 21.2 cm for HC seedlings, but these plants had a physiological disorder (i.e., rusty root), in 83.5% plants of this treatment. The ratio of PD/PT (protopanaxadiol saponins / protopanaxatriol saponins) was higher in NS seedlings. Plant analysis revealed that Fe content was lower in HC seedlings with high rustiness. The growth of 2-years-old ginseng was different following these varying seedling cultivation methods, but seedlings from NS were not different from those grown in SSN. Conclusions: For the propagation of 2-year-old ginseng plants, NS seedlings may be a good substitute for SSN seedlings.
Because of the importance of steel material saving and rational ship structural design due to the rapid increase in steel prices, a ship structural design system was developed for plate members reinforced by doubler plates subjected to biaxial in-plane compressive loads. This paper mainly emphasizes the design system improvement and upgrade according to the change in the in-plane loading condition of the doubler plate from the single load discussed in a previous paper to the biaxial in-plane compressive load discussed in this paper. A direct design process by a structural designer was added to this developed optimized system to increase the design efficiency and provide a way of directly inserting a designer's decisions into the design system process. As the second stage of preliminary steps of doubler design system development, design formulas subjected to these biaxial loads used in the doubler plate design system were suggested. Based on the introduction of influence coefficients $K_t_c$, $K_t_d$, $K_b_d$ and $K_a_d$ based on the variations in the doubler length, breadth, doubler thickness, and average corrosion thickness of the main plate reinforced by the doubler plate, respectively, the design formulas for the equivalent plate thickness of the main plate reinforced by the doubler plate were also developed, and a hybrid design system using these formulas was suggested for the doubler plate of a ship structure subjected to a biaxial in-plane compressive load. Using this developed design system for a main plate reinforced by a doubler plate was expected to result in a more rational reinforced doubler plate design considering the efficient reinforcement of ship plate members subjected to these biaxial loads. Additionally, a more detail structural analysis through local strength evaluations will be performed to verify the efficiency of the optimum structural design for a plate member reinforced by a doubler plate.
Background The endoscopic transnasal approach is widely used for reconstructing the medial orbital wall by filling it with a silicone sheet or Merocel, but this technique has the disadvantage of retaining the packing for a long time. To overcome this drawback, a method of positioning an absorbable plate in the orbit has been introduced, but there is a risk of defect recurrence after the plate is absorbed. Here, the authors report the results of a novel surgical technique of placing a nonabsorbable titanium mesh with porous polyethylene into the orbit through the endoscopic transnasal approach. Methods Fourteen patients underwent surgery using the endoscopic transnasal approach. Preoperative computed tomography (CT) was used to calculate the size of the bone defect due to the fracture, and the titanium mesh was designed to be shorter than the anteroposterior length of the defect and longer than its height. The titanium mesh was inserted into the orbit under an endoscopic view. The authors then confirmed that the titanium mesh supported the orbital contents by pressing the eyeball and finished the operation. Immediately after surgery, CT results were evaluated. Results Postoperative CT scans confirmed that the titanium mesh was well-inserted and in the correct position. All patients were discharged without any complications. Conclusions We obtained satisfactory results by inserting a titanium mesh with porous polyethylene into the orbit via the transnasal approach endoscopically.
This paper presents experimental measurements of the structural characteristics of a two-pad beam-type gas foil journal bearing and its rotordynamic performance for a high-speed motor-driven turbocompressor. The test bearing had two top foils and two beam foils, each with an arc length of ~180°. Each beam foil was etched to obtain 40 beams with six geometries of different lengths and widths. The insertion of beam foils into the bearing housing produces equivalent beam heights. The structural tests of the bearing with a non-rotating journal revealed a smaller bearing clearance and larger structural stiffness for the load-on-pad configuration than for the load-between-pads configuration. Rotordynamic performance measurements during driving tests up to 100 krpm demonstrated synchronous vibrations and subsynchronous vibrations with large amplitudes. The test was repeated after inserting the shim between the top foil and beam foil to reduce the bearing radial clearance. The reduced bearing clearance resulted in a reduction in the peak amplitude of the synchronous vibrations and an increase in the speed at which the peak amplitude occurred. In addition, the onset speed and amplitude of the subsynchronous vibrations were dramatically increased and diminished, respectively. The rotor coast-down tests at 100 krpm show that the reduction in the bearing clearance extends the time to rotor stop, thus implying an improvement in hydrodynamic pressure generation and a reduction in bearing frictional torque.

The authors carried out an experiment to determine the horizontal opening of the mid water trawl gear, which is the same as was used in the foreward experiment concerned to the attitude and opening efficiency of otter board. The trawl net .used in the experiment was designed to have a square sectional four-seamed body with two three-sepenlted wings. Each wing tip was rigged with a net pendant of 70 m long and the fore ends of the pendants were directly jointed to the otter pendant without inserting hand rope, and a front weight of 200 kg weigh was rigged with in front of the lowest wing tip. To determine the opening between otter boards ani between wing tips, two 50 KHz fish finders were set sideways on the otter board and on the port middle wing tip so as to detect the distance froa the finders to the starboard otter board and to the wing tip respectively, and the informations were transmitted to the indicators onboard the ship through water-tight cables. The results obtained can be summarized as follows: 1. The openings between otter borads were 43-45 m in case of the warp 100 m, 53-55 m in the war;> 150 m and 54-59 m in the warp 200 m. It was increased in linear according to the increase of towin; speed in the range of 1. 1-1. 8 mlscc. 2. The determined values of the openings between otter boards were greater than the estimated values. which were calculated by the opening between warps at the gallows of the ship and the length of tt~ warp, assuming that the warps from the top rollers to the otter boards were straight. The rates of the determined values to the estimated values were 1. 23-11. 0 in case of the warp 100 m, 1. 23-1. 12 in the warp 150 m and 1. 23-1. 15 in the warp 200 m respectively. The rates were almost the same at the slow towing speed of 1. 3 mlscc or so, then the higher the speed, the less the rate, and the longer the warp, the greater the rate. 3. The rates of the openings between otter boards to the total length of net pendant and the net (excluded cod end) showed 43-43% in case of the warp 150-200 m. It was a little smaller than th~ standard. which is 50%. in the common bottom trawl. 4. The determined openings between wing tips were 18-19 m in case of the warp 100m, 21-22 m in the warp 150 rn, They showed that the higher the speed, the greater the openings even though its range was no more than 1 m or so. 5. The rates of openings between otter boards to th~ openings betwee:l wing tips were almost invariably 38%. 6. The rates of openigs b2tween otter boards to the lenth of h~ad rope were 60-65% in cas': of th~ warp lOa-150m. It were much larg2r than th~ standard. which is 50%. in the common botto:n trawl.

The trunk and limb of the Jindo, Korean native dog was measured in the present study. One hundred and ninety five Jindoes were randomly selected from the 1,985 dogs in the Jindo County in August 1998, which were screened by the judging committee of the County and registered by inserting electronic chips in the withers. They were about a year and half old, and were white and fawn dogs. A total of 18 parts of the trunk and limb were measured using calipers and tapes. The average height at the withers was 50.67 cm in dogs and 47.48 cm in bitches. The average body length was 52.99 cm in dogs and 50.33 cm in bitches. And the average height : body length ratio was 104.70 in dogs and 106.08 in bitches. No differences were observed between the Jindoes of the two coat colors in these measurements. The results of this study would be useful for compiling the official standard for the adult Jindo.
Objectives This study was aimed to review a standardized method of retention enema by extracting elements associated with methods of retention enema from papers involved. Methods 1) Data sources : Retrieval was made, using 'Enema' or 'Retention Enema' as search words in MEDLINE, The Cochrane Library, KISS, RISS, and NDSL DB. 2) Study selection : Two authors excluded irrelevant papers and chose qualified abstracts in the rest of the papers. The chosen studies were reviewed fully by the authors so that they could screen the significant papers based on the exclusion criteria. 3) Data extraction : Data on the total number of subjects, the target disease, the type, quality, length, diameter of catheter, the insertion length of catheter, the sample, the sample volume, the process of retention enema and the number of performing retention enema were extracted from the selected studies. Results & Conclusions The retention enema can be applied to gastrointestinal diseases, genitourinary diseases, metabolic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes, headaches and neurological disorders. The standardized treatment method is as following: 1) inserting a rental tube of 18-28 Fr that measures 20 to 30 cm into the patient's anus, 2) injecting herbal medicines which have purgative action or benefit on stomach and intestinal tract at the rate of 4 ml/min, and 3) holding them for 10 to 15 minutes.

This paper discusses the improved power performances of the size-reduced amplifier using defected ground structure (DGS). The slow-wave effect and enlarged electrical length occur due to the additional equivalent circuit elements of DGS. Using these properties, it is possible to reduce the length of transmission lines in order to keep the same original electrical lengths by inserting DGS on the ground plane. The matching and performances of the amplifier are preserved even after DGS patterns have been inserted. While there is no loss in the size-reduced transmission lines at the operating frequency, but there exists loss to some extent at harmonic frequencies. This leads to the more excellent inherent capability of harmonic rejection of the size-reduced amplifier. Therefore, it is expected tile harmonics of the size-reduced amplifier are smaller than those of the original amplifier. The measured second harmonic, third order intermodulation distortion (IMD3), and adjacent channel power ratio (ACPR) of the size-reduced amplifier are smaller than those of the original amplifier by 5 dB, 2~6 dB, and 1~4 dB, respectively, as expectation.
