  • In recent, there have been several developments in lamp technology that promise savings in electrical power consumption and improved quality of the lighting space. The electrodeless fluorescent lamp is intended as a high efficacy replacement for the incandescent reflector lamp in many applications. In this paper, electron temperature and electron density were measured in a radio-frequency inductively coupled plasma using a Langmuir probe method for emission characteristics. Measurement was conducted in an Ne discharge for pressure from 10 [mTorr] and input RF power 100 [W] to 150 [W]. As for the electron density, a electron temperature was more distinguished for a emission characteristic. The results of ideal may contribute to systematic understanding of a electrodeless fluorescent lamps of emission characteristics.

  • This paper presents coupled analysis between finite element method and analytic technique for predicting temperature rise of 25.8kV 25kA three-phase GIS bus bar. The power losses and temperature distribution of three-phase GIS bus bar model are analyzed by magneto-thermal finite element method. The heat transfer coefficients on the boundaries are analytically calculated by applying Nusselt number considering material constant and model geometry for the natural convection. And these are used as the input data to predict the temperature rise of three-phase GIS bus bar model by coupled magneto-thermal F.E.A. The predicted temperature of 25.8kV 25kA three-phase GIS bus bar model shows good agreement with the experimental data.

  • This paper presents a new magneto-thermal finite element analysis for predicting the temperature rise of the EHV GIS bus bar. The power losses of a bus bar calculated by the magnetic field analysis are used as the input data to predict the temperature rise for the thermal analysis. The heat-transfer coefficients on the boundaries are analytically calculated by applying the Nusselt number considering material constant and model geometry for the natural convection. The temperature distribution in a bus bar by coupled magneto-thermal finite element analysis shows good agreement with the experimental data.

  • An asymmetrical cross-coupled compensator to improve the contouring performance is proposed. This is a refinement of the structure suggested by Koren. The position loop is closed with a proportional controller as in the uncoupled system. An additional input term proportional to the component of the contour error along the corresponding axis is included. The controller gains are chosen to give an appropriate frequency response and an optimum range for the damping ratio. The effectiveness of the proposed controller is studied by means of digital simulations of the dynamics of the drives and the controller for 4 types of command trajectories: straight line contour, cornering contour, circular contour, elliptic contour. Substantial improvement in contouring performance is obtained for a range of contouring conditions.

  • The thermal behavior of a building in response to heat input from an active solar space heating system is analysed to determine the effect of the variable storage tank temperature on the cycling rate, on and off temperature of a heating cycle and on the comfort characteristics of room air temperature. A computer simulation of the system behavior has been performed and verified by comparisons with various parameters. Especially, this study is focused on the effect of the system's performance when subjected to dynamic cooling loads. The heat input to the absorption system is provided by an array of solar collectors that coupled to a thermal storage tank.

  • This paper proposes a CPSO (Cooperative Particle Swarm Optimization)-based MPC (Model Predictive Control) scheme to deal with formation control problem of multiple nonholonomic mobile robots. In a distributed MPC framework, each robot needs to optimize control input sequence over a finite prediction horizon considering control inputs of the other robots where their cost functions are coupled by the state variables of the neighboring robots. In order to optimize the control input sequence, a CPSO algorithm is adopted and modified to fit into the formation control problem. Experiments are performed on a group of nonholonomic mobile robots to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed CPSO-based MPC for multi-robot formation.

  • Three-level (3L) DC-DC converters are appropriate for high-input-voltage applications. Although the voltage stress of TL converter switches can be reduced to half of the input voltage, the primary side has a large circulating current, which degrades efficiency. In this study, a dual half-bridge cascaded TL converter is presented to reduce this circulating current and thus decrease the conduction loss of the primary circuit. Moreover, the proposed converter can reduce the voltage stress of rectifier diodes, thereby reducing their conduction loss. Therefore, efficiency can be improved by reducing the conduction loss of the primary circuit and rectifier diodes.

  • In shipyards hull forming is performed by the line heating method using a gas torch and by cold treatment using a roll-press. However, this forming process has some issues, such as difficulties in controlling and accurately estimating the amount of the heat input, as well as a harsh working environment due to exposure to loud noises and air pollution. The induction heating method, which is introduced in this paper, exhibits good control and allows for the estimation of precise heat input. Also, workers can carry out the induction heating in a comfortable working environment. In this research, the induction heating simulation, which consists of electro-magnetic, heat transfer and thermal elasto-plastic analysis, was developed and modified through induction heating experiments. Finally, the effective heating coil was designed for the automatic hull forming system based on the results of induction heating simulation. For the purposes of a future study, if an algorithm to obtain optimal working conditions is developed, automatic systems for hull forming can then be constructed.

  • The power flow analysis(PFA) can be effectively used to predict structural vibration in medium-to-high frequency ranges. In this paper, vibration experiment has been performed to observe the analytical characteristics of the power flow analysis of the vibration of a plate. In the experiment, the loss factor of the plate and the input mobility at a source point have been measured. The data for the loss factor has been used as the input data to predict the vibration of the plate with PFA. The frequency response functions have been measured over the surface of the plate. The comparison between the experimental results and the predicted results for the frequency responsefunctionshasbeenperformed.
