We present an efficient algorithm for computing the Hausdorff distance between two planar curves. The algorithm is based on an efficient trimming technique that eliminates the curve domains that make no contribution to the final Hausdorff distance. The input curves are first approximated with biarcs within a given error bound in a pre-processing step. Using the biarc approximation, the distance map of an input curve is then approximated and stored into the graphics hardware depth-buffer by rendering the distance maps (represented as circular cones) of the biarcs. We repeat the same procedure for the other input curve. By sampling points on each input curve and reading the distance from the other curve (stored in the hardware depth-buffer), we can easily estimate a lower bound of the Hausdorff distance. Based on the lower bound, the algorithm eliminates redundant curve segments where the exact Hausdorff distance can never be obtained. Finally, we employ a multivariate equation solver to compute the Hausdorff distance efficiently using the remaining curve segments only.
In this paper presents an accurate AFM used that is free from the Z-directional distortion of a servo actuator is described. Two mathematical correction methods by the in-situ self-calibrationare employed in this AFM. One is the method by the integration, and the other is the method by inverse function of the calibration curve. The in situ self-calibration method by the integration, the derivative of the calibration curve function of the PZT actuator is calculated from the profile measurement data sets which are obtained by repeating measurements after a small Z-directional shift. Input displacement at each sampling point is approximately estimated first by using a straight calibration line. The derivative is integrated with reference to the approximate input to obtain the approximate calibration curve. Then the approximation of the input value of each sampling point is improved using the obtained calibration curve. Next the integral of the derivative is improved using the newly estimated input values. As a result of repeating these improving process, the calibration curve converges to the correct one, and the distortion of the AFM image can be corrected. In the in situ self-calibration through evaluating the inverse function of the calibration curve, the profile measurement data sets were used during the data processing technique. Principles and experimental results of the two methods are presented.
A practical method to design the input shaping which generates control command is proposed in this paper, We suggest an experimental technique considering human operator's target tracking error to improve aiming accuracy which significantly affects hit probability. It is known that stabilization performance is one of the most important factors for ground combat vehicle system. In particular, stabilization error of the manual target tracking system mounted on moving vehicle directly affects hit probability. To reduce this error, we applied input command shaping method using preprocessing filtering and functional curve fitting. First of all, we construct the human operator model to consider effects of human operator on our system. Input shaping curve is divided into several regions to get rid of the above problems and to improve the system performance. At example design part, we chose three steps of functional command curve and determine the parameters of the function by the proposed design method. In order to verify the proposed design method, we carried out the experiments with real plant of a fighting vehicle.
Input shaping is a method for reducing residual vibration in computer controlled machines. Vibration is eliminated by convolving a sequence of impulses, an input shaper, with a desired system command to produce a shaped input. This paper shows the shape of sensitivity curve of input shaper as impulse interval T and analysis of robustness for input shaper on the z-plane. And a method is presented for designing equivalent input shaper considering sampling time $T_s$. And then we applied equivalent input shaper to crane system.
Approximate lofting or skinning is one of practical surface modeling techniques well used in CAD and reverse engineering applications. Presented in this paper is a method for approximately lofting a given set of curves wihin a specified tolereance. It is based on refitting input curves simultaneously on a common knot vector and interpolating them to get a resultant NURBS surface. A concept of reducing the number of interior knots of the common knot vector is well adopted to acquire more compact representation for the resultant surface. Energy minimization is newly introduced in curve refitting process to stabilize the solution of the fitting problem and get more fair curve. The proposed approximate lofting provides more smooth surface models and realizes more efficient data reduction expecially when the parameterization and compatibility of input curves are not good enough. The method has been successfully implemented in a new CAD/CAM product VX Vision? of Varimetrix Corporation.
This paper propose a new detection method of curve lane using Catmull-Rom spline for recognition various shape of the curve lane. To improve the accracy of lane detection, binarization and thinning process are firstly performed on the input image. Next, features on the curve lane such as curvature and orientation are extracted, and the control points of Catmull-Rom spline are detected to recognize the curve lane. Finally, Computer simulation results are given using a natural test image to show the efficiency of the proposed scheme.
Input shaping method is to convolute input shaper, which is sequence of impulses, with reference input command not to excite the natural frequency of system. To reduce residual vibration for the ch ange of frequency, the number of impulses should be increased. Until now, amplitudes and time interval of those has been searched from the derivative of residual vibration. However, if time interval of impulses is fixed as the half of vibration period of system, input shaper H(z) in z-domain becomes (I-pz-1)n/K in which increasing n is the mean that robustness for change of parameter is improved. Also, design of many types of input shapers in z-domain is very easy because sensitivity curve is displayed with $\mid$H(z)zn$\mid$$\times$100. In the z-domain, EI(Extra-Insensitive) input shaper could be designed without solving nonlinear simultaneous equations as design in continuous time domain. In addition to, the design possibility of input shaper for a damped system was shown.

With the development of a laser scanner of high precision and increased speed, reverse engineering becomes a key approach to reduce the time for the development of new products. But the modeling process is not so automated enough until now. Modeling in real workshops is usually performed by the experienced operators and it requires a skillful technique to get the resultant surface of high quality and precision. In this paper, a systematic solution is proposed to automate the free-form surface generation from the measured point data. Compatibility is imposed to the measured point data during input curve generation. And the compatibility of cross-sectional curve is also considered for the loft surface generation. The data in each step is produced in IGES file format to make an easy interface to other CAD/CAM software without any further data manipulation.
BNWF(Beam on Nonlinear Winkler Foundation) method has long been adopted for lateral behavior analysis of pile foundation and widely recognized for its simplicity and accuracy up until now. However, due to lateral load tests which were done in limited conditions and theory-based input Parameter estimation, the applicbility of p-y curve has not been fully examined. Accordingly, we researched on the applicability of conventional input parameter estimation and the p-y curve to be determined by the estimation through inverse analysis based on lateral load tests.
