A Study on a Nonlinear Control Algorithm for the Automatic Berthing of Ships (선박 자동 이접안을 위한 비선형 제어알고리즘 연구)

  • his study discusses the design of an automatic berthing control algorithm for ships with a haw thruster and a stern thruster, as well as a rudder. A nonlinear mathematical model for the law speed maneuvering of ships was used to design a MIMO (multi-input multi-output) nonlinear control algorithm. The algorithm consists of two parts, the forward velocity control and heading angle control. The control algorithm was designed based on the longitudinal and yaw dynamic models of ships. The desired heading angle was obtained by the so-called "Line of Sight" method. An optimal control force allocation method forthe rudder and the thrusters is suggested. The nonlinear control algorithm was tested by numerical simulations using MATLAB, and showed good tracking performance.

  • At present, some evolutional system has been used to promote the efficiency of the DNC(Direct Numerical Control) Controller. However, these are many inconvenience to this operator because it lacks harmony in interaction between the computer and the NC(Numerical Control). Also, there are some controversial poults when data error occurs at the Data Input/output. According1y, this thesis explores a new Data Remote Control System. In this study, the NC Controller of the DNC network has to Bet full data by removing data error in this system. In this system, the main merits are easy manufacturing and the convenience of Data Input/output. That is, remote control of the NC machine tool is possible without mutual interaction between the computer and itself.

  • In this paper a modular high performance MV-to-LV rectifier based on a cascaded H-bridge rectifier is presented. The proposed rectifier can directly connect to the medium voltage levels and provide a low-voltage and highly-stable DC interface with the consumer applications. The input stage eliminates the necessity for heavy and bulky step-down transformers. It corrects the input power factor and maintains the voltage balance among the individual DC buses. The second stage includes the high frequency parallel-output DC/DC converters which prepares the galvanic isolation, regulates the output voltage, and attenuates the low frequency voltage ripple ($2f_{line}$) generated by the first stage. The parallel-output converters can work in interleaving mode and the active load-current sharing technique is utilized to balance the load power among them. The detailed analysis for modeling and control of the proposed structure is presented. The validity and performance of the proposed topology is verified by simulation and experimental results.

  • New power factor correction(PFC) technique based on the averaged model of boost converter is proposed. Without measurement of input current, power factor correction scheme derived from the averaged model is presented. With the measurements of input voltage and output voltage, the control signal is generated to make the shape of the line current same as the input voltage. The characteristics of input line current distortion is analyzed by considering the generation of duty cycle.

Mixed $H_2/H_{\infty}$ Finite Memory Controls for Output Feedback Controls of Discrete-time State-Space Systems

  • In this paper, a new type of output feedback control, called a $H_2/H_{\infty}$ fnite memory control (FMC), is proposed for deterministic state space systems. Constraints such as linearity, unbiasedness property, and finite memory structure with respect to an input and an output are required in advance to design $H_2/H_{\infty}$ FMC in addition to the performance criteria in both $H_2$ and $H_{\infty}$ sense. It is shown that $H_2$, $H_{\infty}$, and mixed $H_2/H_{\infty}$ FMC design problems can be converted into convex programming problems written in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) with some linear equality constraints. Through simulation study, it is illustrated that the proposed $H_2/H_{\infty}$ FMC is more robust against uncertainties and faster in convergence than the existing $H_2/H_{\infty}$ output feedback control schemes.

Study on an Optimal Control Method for Energy Injection Resonant AC/AC High Frequency Converters

  • In energy injection resonant AC-AC converters, due to the low frequency effect of the AC input envelope and the low energy injection losses requirement, the constant and steady control of the high frequency AC output envelope is still a problem that has not been solved very well. With the aid of system modeling, this paper analyzes the mechanism of the envelope pit on the resonant AC current. The computing methods for the critical damping point, the falling time and the bottom value of the envelope pit are presented as well. Furthermore, this paper concludes the stability precondition of the system AC output. Accordingly, an optimal control method for the AC output envelope is put forward based on the envelope prediction model. This control method can predict system responses dynamically under different series of control decisions. In addition, this control method can select best series of control decisions to make the AC output envelope stable and constant. Simulation and experimental results for a contactless power transfer system verify the control method.

  • DC/DC switching power converters produce DC output voltages from different stable DC input sources regulated by a bi-polar transistor. The converters can be used in regenerative braking of DC motors to return energy back in the supply, resulting in energy savings for the systems containing frequent stops. The voltage mode DC/DC converter is composed of a PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) controller, a MOSFET (Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor), an inductor, and capacitors, etc. PWM is applied to control and regulate the total output voltage. It is shown that the output of DC/DC converter depends on the variation of threshold voltage at MOSFET and the variation of pulse width. In the PWM operation, the missing pulses, the changes in pulse width, and a change in the period of the output waveform are studied by SPICE (Simulation Program with Integrated Circuit Emphasis) and experiments.

Observer Based Output Feedback Control for Time-Delay Systems (시간지연 시스템의 관측기 기반의 출력 피드백 제어)

  • This paper presents the observer based output feedback control design for linear systems which have both input and output time delay. Sufficient conditions for existence of stabilizing output feedback controller are characterized by linear matrix inequalities. Since the condition of the proposed design depends on the value of time delay, it is less conservative than existing delay-independent approaches. Finally, an illustrative example is given in order to show the effectiveness of our design method.

Feedback-Based Iterative Learning Control for MIMO LTI Systems

  • This paper proposes a necessary and sufficient condition of convergence in the $L_2$-norm sense for a feedback-based iterative learning control (ILC) system including a multi-input multi-output (MIMO) linear time-invariant (LTI) plant. It is shown that the convergence conditions for a nominal plant and an uncertain plant are equal to the nominal performance condition and the robust performance condition in the feedback control theory, respectively. Moreover, no additional effort is required to design an iterative learning controller because the performance weighting matrix is used as an iterative learning controller. By proving that the least upper bound of the $L_2$-norm of the remaining tracking error is less than that of the initial tracking error, this paper shows that the iterative learning controller combined with the feedback controller is more effective to reduce the tracking error than only the feedback controller. The validity of the proposed method is verified through computer simulations.

  • A new RF control system of Pohang Accelerator Laboratory (PAL) storage ring is a subsystem upgraded PAL control system, which is based upon Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System (EPICS). There are 5 control components, Low Level RF System (LRS), Klystron System, Circulator System, Cavity System, Local Cooling Water System (LCW) at the storage ring of PAL. The new RF control system for the storage ring has been under development for one years, first versions of individual VME (Versa Module Europa) Input/output modules under construction and system integration begun. In this system, VMEbus-based hardware is widely used for front-end controllers (FDS), Input/output controller (IOC). A number of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and SUN workstations are also used for Operator Interfaces (OPI) in the control system. This paper describes the development VME I/O module to the new control system and how the design of this new system.
