  • Three solvent systems, chlorobenzene (ink 1), chlorobenzene/o-dichlorobenzene (ink 2) and chlorobenzene/tetrahydronaphthalene (ink 3), were compared as printable inks for the fabrication of polymer light-emitting diodes (PLEDs) using poly[2-methoxy-5-(2-ethylhexyl-oxyl)-1,4-phenylenevinylene (MEH-PPV) as an emissive material and an inkjet printer (Fujifilm Dimatix DMP-2831). Ink 1 clogged the printer's nozzle and gave non-uniform film. Inks 2 and 3 were used to fabricate PLEDs with ITO/PEDOT:PSS/MEH-PPV/LiF/Al configurations. The best performance (turn-on voltage, 3.5 V; luminance efficiency, 0.17 cd/A; luminance, 1,800 cd/m) was obtained when ink 3 was used to form the emissive layer (thickness, 49 nm), attributable to the better morphology and suitable thickness of the MEH-PPV layer.

  • In past decades, the themal inkjet (TIJ) printer has been widely used as one of the most well-known digital printing technology due to its low cost, and high printing quality. Since the printing speed of TIJ printers are much slower than that of laser printers, however, there has been intensive efforts to raise the printing speed of TIJ printers. One of the most plausible methods to raise the printing speed of TIJ printers is to adopt a page-wide array TIJ printhead. To accomplish this goal, the high efficiency inkjet heating resistor films should be developed to settle the high power consumption problem of a page-wide array TIJ printhead. In this study, we investigated noble metal based multicomponent thin film resistor films prepared by atomic layer deposition (ALD) for a high efficiency inkjet printhead. Design concept, preparation, material properties of noble metal based multicomponent thin films will be discussed in terms of mutlfunctionality.

  • Patterning bacteria and cells on substrates has potential applications in molecular biology, antimicrobial drug screening, environmental monitoring and tissue engineering. We developed a technique to deposit two-dimensional array of bacterial cells onto an agar plate by modifying commercially available thermal inkjet printers. The concentration of the bacterial solution in the cartridge was carefully determined to ensure a single cell suspension in a droplet ejected from a nozzle. We measured quantitatively the effects of the bacterial concentration and the agar concentration on patterning performance. Bacterial patterning by inkjet printer is a low-cost and versatile technique which may replace the existing sophisticated methods.

  • An electrostatic inkjet head can be used for manufacturing processes of large display systems and printed circuit boards (PCB) as well as inkjet printers because an electrostatic field provides an external force which can be manipulated to control sizes of droplets. The existing printing methods such as thermal bubble and piezo inkjet heads have shown difficulties to control the ejection of the droplets for printing applications. Thus, the new inkjet head has been proposed using the electrostatic force. A numerical analysis has been performed to calculate the intensity of the electrostatic field using the Maxwell's equation. Also, experiments have been carried out to investigate the droplet movement using a downward capillary with outside diameter of $500{\mu}m$. Gravity, surface tension, and electrostatic force have been analyzed with high voltages for a drop-on-demand ejection. It has been observed that the droplet size decreases and the frequency of the droplet formation and the velocity of the droplet ejection increase with increasing the intensity of the electrostatic field using high-speed camera.

  • Studies were performed on preparation of organic-inorganic hybrid silica dye in a dispersing ink system. The silica was subjected to surface modification using 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (APTMS) in order to promote the chemical reactivity of the raw silica. On the surfaces of the aminosilane-functionalised silica, red vinylsulfone-containing azo dye was adsorbed. The dye was found to have chemically reacted with the aminosilane-grafted silica surface, which was proven by FT-IR spectra. Studies on morphology and microstructure were performed employing scanning electron microscopy. The SEM micrographs and particle size distributions showed that a homogeneous pigment can be obtained employing silica as a core. Particle size distribution was also examined using the technique of dynamic light scattering. The ensuing pigment was subjected to various physicochemical evaluation such as inkjet property, storage stability, color change as inkjet ink using printer, spectrophotometric, microscopic techniques. Studies on hybrid dyes from the silica surface demonstrated that, in general, stable pigments for inkjet dispersion ink were obtained.

  • This study on the proofing what used to correct the color difference between the photo image and offset press. Printing photos with color offset press always make the differs, because of the difference in gamut. Photographer hopes to be able to use the proofing with inkjet printer for reduce these differences. In this study, I experiment with various ways for the proofing by photographer directly. It is using the ink jet printer and image outputs of the various mode was applied to a variety of color setting value. And calculate the output image using a spectrophotometer and compared with the image of offset press. At last I can found a very similar color setting value with the offset image. After all this research is to obtain a result of finding out proofing work flow through method to measure and how to apply various color setting value results.

  • This paper addresses factors of line image quality on grain leather printed via inkjet printer. Lines were printed onto coated leather media, and line width, edge blurriness, and edge raggedness were evaluated for line image quality. Various factors influenced to wetting and capillary wicking were studied and found out that wicking through capillary between fibers causes significant feathering on leather surface similar with pulp capillary in copy Paper. Polyurethane and acrylic resin coating resulted good image qualify by reducing capillary wicking. The mixture of polyurethane and acrylic resin applied on grain leather satisfied with both image quality and surface hand. $AllWrite^{TM}$ ink brought best results of image quality, comparing with $VeraPrint^{TM}$ ink and $JetWrite^{TM}$ ink.
