  • Using a continuous injection tracer test at a multi-soil layer deposit, the difference of hydrodynamic dispersions in unsaturated and saturated zones were analyzed through breakthrough curves of Rhodamine WT, linear regression of concentration versus time, concentration variation rates versus time, and concentration ratio according to the distance from injection well. As a result of continuous injection tracer test, the difference of the maximum concentrations of Rhodamine WT in unsaturated and saturated zones were 13-15 times after 160 hours, and the increased rate of concentration versus time in unsaturated zone was about 10 times higher than in saturated zone. The fluctuation of Rhodamine WT breakthrough curve and concentration variation rate with time in saturated zone were larger than in unsaturated zone. Rhodamine WT concentration ratio with the distance from the injection well in saturation zone was linearly decreased faster than in unsaturated zone, and the elapsed time necessary for the concentration ratio less than 2 was longer in saturation zone. The differences resulted from the lower concentration and slower hydrodynamic dispersion of Rhodamine WT at the saturation zone of the multi-soil layer deposit, in which groundwater flow significantly flow and aquifer materials have high hydraulic heterogeneity. Effective porosity, longitudinal and transverse dispersivities were estimated $10.19{\sim}10.50%,\;0.80{\sim}1.98m$ and $0.02{\sim}0.04m$, respectively. The field longitudinal dispersivity is over 12 times larger than the laboratory longitudinal dispersivity by the scale-dependent effect.

  • Purpose: In order to know the effectiveness of ultrasonographic examination in diagnosis and follow-up evaluation for the frozen shoulder, we compared those with contralateral side in initial and after steroid injection. Materials and Methods: For the 20 unilateral frozen shoulder from July 2012 to July 2013, ultrasonographic examination was tried using reference line 1 (CBT: distance from coracoid process to LHB tendon) and line 2 (CBG: distance from coracoid process to bicipital groove). We tried 1 time steroid injection and compared the improvement in gross motion and reference line with 2 month, 4 month, and 6 month's serial ultrasonographic examination. Results: The differences on CBT line between lesion side and normal side were -5.6 mm, -5.0 mm, and -4.3 mm in neutral (Neut), external rotation (ER) and internal rotation (IR), respectively. The differences on CBG line were -6.1 mm, -4.7 mm, and -5.0 mm respectively (p<0.05). The changes in the reference line after steroid injection were evaluated at 2 month (CBT: -4.8 mm, -3.5 mm, -2.6 mm / CBG: -4.7 mm, -4.0 mm, -3.6 mm), 4 month (CBT: -4.7 mm, -3.2 mm, -1.7 mm / CBG: -4.3 mm, -3.7 mm, -1.2 mm), and 6 month (CBT: -1.1 mm, -2.9 mm, -0.5 mm / CBG: -1.2 mm, -0.7 mm, -0.9 mm). The gross motion was improved at 4 month after injection, from elevation $108^{\circ}$, ER $32^{\circ}$, IR L5 in initial to $133^{\circ}$, $42^{\circ}$, L3 respectively (p<0.05). Pain improved from 7.5 in initial to 3.0 at 2 month on visual analog scale (VAS). Conclusion: The serial examination after steroid injection revealed that the delayed improvement on reference line (6 month) compared with pain (2 month) or gross motion (4 month). Dynamic ultrasonogram was useful in diagnosis and follow-up evaluation of frozen shoulder.

  • This study derived measures to reduce exposure doses by identifying factors which affect the external radiation dose rate of patients treated with radiopharmaceuticals for PET-CT tests. The external radiation dose rates were measured on three parts of head, thorax and abdomen at a distance of 50cm from the surface of 60 PET-CT patients. It showed there are changes in factors affecting the external radiation dose rate over time after the administration of F-18 FDG. The external radiation dose rate was lower in the patients with more water intake than those with less water intake before the injection of radiopharmaceuticals at all three points: right after the injection of radiopharmaceuticals (average 4.17 mins), after the pre-PEET-CT urination step (average 77.47 mins), and right after the PET-CT test (average 114.15 mins). The study also found there is a need to increase the amount of water intake before the injection of radiopharmaceuticals in order to maintain a low external radiation dose rate in patients. This strategy is only possible under the assumption that the quality of the video has not changed after conducting this study on the relations between the image and quality. This study also found a need to use radiopharmaceuticals with the minimum amount needed for each patient because F-FDG doses affects the external radiation dose rate at the point right after the injection of radiopharmaceuticals. Urination frequency was the most significant factor to affect the external radiation dose rates at the point right after the PET-CT test and the point after the pre-PET-CT urination step. There is a need to realize the strategy to increase the urination frequency of patients to maintain the external radiation dose rate low (average 77.47 mins) before and after the injection of radiopharmaceuticals. In addition, at this point, there is a need to take advantage of personal strategies because the external radiation dose rate is lower if the fasting time is shorter, the contrast medium is used, and the amount of water intake is increased after the administration of radiopharmaceuticals. Finally this study found the need to be able to generalize these findings through an in-depth research on the factors affecting the external radiation dose rate, which includes radiopharmaceutical dose, urination frequency, the amount of water intake, fasting time and the use of contrast medium.

  • Multiple thermal energy storage (TES) caverns can be used for storing thermal energy on a large scale and for a high-aspect-ratio heat storage design to provide good thermal performance. It may also be necessary to consider the use of multiple caverns with a reduced length when a single, long tunnel-shaped cavern is not suitable for connection to aboveground heat production and injection equipments. When using multiple TES caverns, the separation distance between the caverns is one of the significant factors that should be considered in the design of storage space, and the optimal separation distance should be determined based on a quantitative stability criterion. In this paper, we described a numerical approach for determining the optimal separation distance between multiple caverns for large-scale TES utilization. For reliable stability evaluation of multiple caverns, we employed a probabilistic method which can quantitatively take into account the uncertainty of input parameters by probability distributions, unlike conventional deterministic approaches. The present approach was applied to the design of a conceptual TES model to store hot water for district heating. The probabilistic stability results of this application demonstrated that the approach in our work can be effectively used as a decision-making tool to determine the optimal separation distance between multiple caverns. In addition, the probabilistic results were compared to those obtained through a deterministic analysis, and the comparison results suggested that care should taken in selecting the acceptable level of stability when using deterministic approaches.

  • Effects of opening distance on liquid-gas spray of pintle injector were experimentally investigated under atmospheric condition by using water and air as simulants of propellants. Discharge coefficients($C_d$) and mass flow rates were calculated with various injection conditions; 0.1 bar - 1.0 bar for water pressures and 0.2 mm - 1.0 mm for the pintle opening distances. Spray angles were measured from the spray images that were obtained by a shadowgraphy method. When opening distance is 0.2 mm, liquid sheet is not formed properly and it show non-uniform spray. than it can result in combustion instability. it has a weak correlation between the momentum flux ratio and the spray angle, while it has a strong correlation between the momentum ratio and spray angle. Finally the spray angles reduced exponentially when the momentum ratio increased and the spray angles converged to about 40 degrees.

  • In this study, the relations of flow rate, discharging distance and droplet size are measured in accordance with the nozzle shape. The dual type nozzles of LPN142 and LPN148, which have identical core diameter (6.0 mm) and the different radial injection angles (${\theta}_2=142^{\circ}$ and $148^{\circ}$), are manufactured. The distribution diameters with discharging distance are quantified by UL2167 test standard. The relations between discharging angle and droplet sizes, which are measured by the method of Helium-Neon laser equipment, are obtained by the empirical correlation as working pressure increase. Moreover, the extinction coefficient, which is major parameter of the radiative transport equation (RTE) is analyzed with variable droplet sizes. Thus, it is possible to opt the nozzle's shape by analyzing the relations of working pressure, spray distance, droplet size and fire characteristics at minimum allowable flow rate.

  • Background: The C-arm fluoroscope is an essential tool for the intervention of pain. The aim of this study was to investigate the radiation exposure experienced by the hand and chest of pain physicians during C-arm fluoroscopy-guided procedures. Methods: This is a prospective study about radiation exposure to physicians during transforaminal epidural steroid injection (TFESI) and medial branch block (MBB). Four pain physicians were involved in this study. Data about effective dose (ED) at each physician's right hand and left side of the chest, exposure time, radiation absorbed dose (RAD), and the distance from the center of the X-ray field to the physician during X-ray scanning were collected. Results: Three hundred and fifteen cases were included for this study. Demographic data showed no significant differences among the physicians in the TFESIs and MBBs. In the TFESI group, there was a significant difference between the ED at the hand and chest in all the physicians. In physician A, B and C, the ED at the chest was more than the ED at the hand. The distance from the center of the X-ray field to physician A was more than that of the other physicians, and for the exposure time, the ED and RAD in physician A was less than that of the other physicians. In the MBB group, there was no difference in the ED at the hand and chest, except for physician D. The distance from the center of the X-ray field to physician A was more than that of the other physicians and the exposure time in physician A was less than that of the other physicians. Conclusions: In conclusion, the distance from the radiation source, position of the hand, experience and technique can correlate with the radiation dose.

  • Swirl flow in the gun type burner has an impact on the stabilization of the flame, improvement of the combustion efficiency. The swirl flow is created by the spinner which is inside the airtube that guide the combustion air. Gun type burner has generally the inner devices composed electronic spark plug, injection nozzle, combustion device adaptor, and spinner. These inner components change the air flow behavior passing through airtube. So, this study conducted the measurement using by hot-wire anemometer and analyzed effect of the swirl number of spinner on the exhaust air of gun type burner. Turbulence characteristics come up in this study was mean velocity, turbulence intensity, kinetic energy, shear stress and flattness factor of the air flow with the change of the distance of axial direction and tangential direction from the exit of the airtube.
