  • Despite applying recent advances in research and technology and taking into acount proper histories and performing thorough physical examinations, a high percentage of patients with low back pain have no identifiable pathology. Problems especially of the sacroiliac joint are commonly missed. The purpose of this article is to describe the effects of sacroiliac injection of local anesthetics and corticosteroids on patients with acute sacroiliac sprain. The sacroiliac joints are essentially nonweight-bearing joints that allows a small amount of anteroposterior rotatory movement around transverse axis usually about 5 to 10 cm below the promontory of the sacrum vertically. The ligamentous portion of sacroiliac joint is vulnerable to rotatory movement particularly when the individual is in an awkward position. Injections of 3 ml of 2% lidocaine and 10 mg of methylprednisolone were given twice at two day intervals to 26 patients with acute sacroiliac sprain. Most of those patients obtained excellent results without any adverse effects.

  • In this study, It is necessary that we should study on more effective use about reciprocating engines because there are huge increase of air pollution. Diesel Engine is operated by injecting fuel directly to combustion chamber with high pressure. Diesel Engine has greater thermal efficiency and durability than Gasoline Engine. Also, Diesel Engine emitted low harmful exhaust witch caused by Gasoline Engine. There are many ways to improve of performance and decrease of harmful exhaust by controlling injection timing, changing amount of fuel and engine speed and so on. Especially, development and application of common rail direct injection Engine cause the increase of thermal efficiency by controlling a various of operating conditions. In this study we analyze characteristics of performance by changing a various of operating conditions.

  • Heavy duty diesel vehicles deteriorate urban air quality by discharging a large volume of air pollutants such as soot and nitrogen oxides. In this study, a newly introduced auxiliary device a fuel activation device (FAD) to improve the combustion efficiency of internal engines by utilizing the cavitation effect was closely investigated by the fluid flow mechanism via a numerical analysis method. As a result, the FAD contributed to fuel atomization from the injection nozzle at lower inlet pressure by reducing the pressure energy. The improved cavitation effect facilitated fuel atomization, and ultimately reduced pollutant emission due to the decrease in fuel consumption. The axial velocity along the flow channel was increased 8.7 times with the aid of FAD, which improved the primary break-up of bubbles. The FAD cavitation effect produced 1.09-times larger turbulent bubbles under the same pressure and fuel injection amount than without FAD.

  • The effects of fillers [talc, calcium carbonate, glass fiber, and EBR (ethylene-butene rubber)] on the shrinkage and mechanical properties of injection-molded polypropylene composites were investigated. The shrinkage correlated with the shape of the filler particles: at the same amount added, glass fibers with a large aspect ratio had the greatest effect on the shrinkage of polypropylene composites, followed by flake-shaped talc and granular calcium carbonate. It was confirmed that the addition of EBR rubber as an impact strength modifier reduced shrinkage proportionally to the added content. In addition, the addition of glass fiber resulted in the greatest increases in tensile and flexural strengths.

  • In the study, the effect of steam injection on syngas productivity was investigated under the constant operating conditions of gasifier oxygen load while the coal feed was fixed and the steam injection flow rate is changed in Taean IGCC plant. The maximum syngas average productivity was found to be at 80 % and 90 % of gasifier oxygen loads with the steam injection flow rate of 0.14 kg/s and 0.15 kg/s per coal burner. Through this study, the syngas productivity was changed by adjusting the steam injection amount and as the steam injection flow rate increased, the syngas productivity increased and then decreased again. The syngas productivity can be increased only by steam injection without supplying additional coal and it is considered that the syngas productivity has different characteristics depending on coal type. Thus it is recommended to operate the gasifier using Carbo-One coal with the steam injection flow rate of about 0.14 kg/s per coal burner when the gasifier oxygen load is 80 % ~ 90 %.

  • Objectives: The purpose of the study is to assess both the approximate lethal dose and the single dose intramuscular injection toxicity of Danggui (Angelica gigantis radix) pharmacopuncture (DGP) in Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats. Methods: The experiments were conducted at the good laboratory practice (GLP) laboratory, Biotoxtech Co., which is a laboratory approved by the ministry of food and drug safety (MFDS). The study was performed according to the GLP regulation and the toxicity test guidelines of the MFDS (2009) after approval of the institutional animal care and use committee of Biotoxtech. Single doses of DGP were injected intramuscularly into the rats in three test groups of 6 week old SD rats (5 male and 5 female rats per groups) in the amounts of 0.1, 0.5, and 1.0 mL/animal for groups 2, 3, and 4, respectively, and normal saline solution in the amount of 1.0 mL/animal was injected intramuscularly into the rats (5 male and 5 female rats) in the control group. Observations of the general symptoms and weight measurements were performed during the 14 day observation period after the injection. Hematologic and serum biochemical examination, necropsy, and a local tolerance test at the injection site were done after the observation period. Results: No death was observed in three test groups (0.1, 0.5 and 1.0 mL/animal group). In addition, the injection of DGP had no effect on general symptoms, weights, hematologic and serum biochemical examination, and necropsy. The results from the local tolerance tests at injection site showed no treatment related effects in the SD rats. Conclusion: The results of single dose intramuscular injection of DGP suggest that the approximate lethal dose is above 1.0 mL/animal for both male and female SD rats and that intramuscular injection of DGP may be safe.

  • The aim of this study was to achieve optimal portal phase while reducing contrast medium by applying weight-based dose protocol compared to standard fixed dose protocol to performing of pediatric abdominal CT examination. Discovery 750HD (General Electric Medical Systems, Milwaukee, USA) was used, and a total of 167 children consisting of 85 men and 82 women under the age of 18 were studied. The group in which the 300 mgI/ml(Xenetix, Guerbet, France) contrast medium was fixedly injected at twice body weight and the group injected with physiological saline while gradually decreasing the injection amount by 10% while applying the weight-based protocol were distinguished. Also, the CT number and SNR of abdominal organs were compared and evaluated while changing the scan delay time. Subjective image quality of enhancement and beam-hardening artifacts of around the heart was assessed with five-point criterion. The group adapted weight-based protocol with 20% reduction in contrast medium was most similar in contrast enhancement in the group with fixed injection at twice body weight. Furthermore, the group with a delay time of 20% had the highest contrast enhancement effect, and the difference in CT attenuation coefficient from the group scanned immediately after injection of the contrast media. Therefore, the appropriate delay time after injection of the contrast agent increased the contrast enhancement of the parenchymal organ. In addition, the weight-based injection protocol with normal saline reduced artifacts around the heart, and the effect of contrast enhancement could be maintained. In conclusion, it is possible to reduce dosage of contrast media through the application of weight-based injection protocols and appropriate latency, and to characterize optimal portal phase imaging on pediatric abdominal CT.

  • In this study, we analyzed the attachment amount and the surface properties, such as shape and attachment aspect of silver nanoparticles on the surface of salt and sucrose. In addition, we investigated the antimicrobial activity of silver nanoparticles by measuring total colony counts and total coliforms in sewage according to the time and the amount of silver nanoparticles. As a result, it is found that silver nanoparticles are attached on the surface of salt and sucrose from the SEM images and there is no microorganisms on the surface of salt and sucrose. Silver nanoparticles on salt were rod shape but silver nanoparticles on sucrose were round shape. Also, the content of silver was 0.735 mg/g on salt and 0.885 mg/g on sucrose. In all experiments, total colony counts and total coliforms sharply declined initially, and it decreased gradually as change the time. When injection amount of nano silver sucrose and salt increased, the width of decline was greater. The amount of total colony counts and total coliforms of nano silver salt was much lower and the disinfection efficiency was higher comparing with nano silver sucrose. That means the case of nano silver salt is much better at the antimicrobial activity.

  • This study was carried out to select effective preventive pesticides against pine wilt disease caused by pinewood nematode (PWN), Bursaphelenchus xylophilus on trunk injection. 1,000 fold aquatic solution of abamectin 1.8% EC and emamectin benzoate 2.15% EC were lower mortality (7.3% and 8.3% respectively) against PWN on 1 day after treatment. However effects of abamectin 1.8% EC, emamectin benzoate 2.15% EC, fosthiazate 30% SL and fenitrothion 30% SL were inhibited the reproduction of PWN over 99.6% in Botrytis cineria media. Effect of trunk injection of abamectin 1.8% EC and emamectin benzoate 2.15% EC at the rate of $10\;m{\ell}$ per 10 cm in diameter of breast height (DBH) on mortality of Japanese black pine, Pinus thungergii by inoculated PWN was 0% and 3.3%, respectively at the applied year however when injection of fosthiazate 30% SL were treated with the rate of $5\;m{\ell}$ per 10 cm tree DBH, mortality of tree was 63.3%. Abamectin 1.8% EC and emamectin benzoate 2.15% EC was showed high preventive efficacy representing >90% against PWN at the following year. PWN preventing efficacy of trunk injection was lower in naturally occurred area (mortality of pine tree in control was 11.7% at the first year) of PWN than artificially infected site (mortality of pine tree in control was >76.7% at the first year), PWN preventing efficacy of trunk injection of abamectin 1.8% EC and emamectin benzoate 2.15% EC at the rate of $10\;m{\ell}$ per 10 cm in DBH was 91.5% and 82.9%, respectively, at the applied year and 89.5% and 82.6% respectively at the following year in PWN naturally occurred site. Control efficacy by trunk injection of abamectin 1.8% EC and emamectin benzoate 2.15% EC was more higher in 10 fold dilution with 10 fold high amount of aquatic solution than no dilution with 10 fold less amount of aquatic solution. The preventive effect of trunk injection of abamectin 1.8% EC and emamectin benzoate 2.15% EC at the rate of $5\;m{\ell}$ per 10 cm in DBH was showed 100% at the applied year in PWN inoculated tree.

The Effect of Deoxycholic acid on the Excretion of Methylene bis (3, 4, 6-Trichlorophenoxy acetic acid) (Methylene bis (3, 4, 6-trichlorophenoxy acetic acid)의 배설(排泄)에 미치는 deoxycholic acid의 영향(影響))

  • Methylene bis (3, 4, 6-trichlorophenoxy acetic acid) 'MTPA' has been developed for the purpose of treatment of clonorchiasis. It has been rpeorted that, in patients treated with MTPA, the flukes in the liver were killed, elevated serum bilirubin returned to normal and the patients´ general condition was improved. However it took $1{\sim}4 $ weeks to obtain sufficient therapeutic effects. In rabbits, excretion of bilirubin in the bile was increased by the MTPA, and this action was enhanced by a combination of deoxycholic acid with MTPA. This study was designed as a part of a series to increase the therapeutic effect of MTPA, by observing the relation of the blood level of MTPA with the excretion of MTPA in the bile, and the excretion of MTPA with bilirubin excretion in the bile caused by the injection of MTPA alone or in combination with deoxycholic acid. $^{14}C-labeled$ MTPA alone or with deoxycholic acid were injected into the ear veins of rabbits. The amout of bile, MTPA and bilirubin in the bile and the blood level of MTPA were measured. The results obtained were as follows: 1. The amount of excreted bile was decreased gradually as the time elapsed in both groups, that is groups injected with MTPA alone and with deoxycholic acid, without any significant difference between either group. 2. The largest amount of MTPA excretion in the early stage of the MTPA excretion in both groups, but deoxycholic acid caused an increase in blood level of MTPA whereas biliary excretion of MTPA decreased, especially in the early stage after drug injection. 3. The significant increment of bilirubin excretion began within an hour and it reached peak level in $2{\sim}2\frac{1}{2}$ hours after drug injection in both groups, but the amount of excreted bilirubin was larger in the combined group. The above results suggest that deoxycholic acid interferes with the biliary excretion of MTPA, and that there is no close relation between the increased excretion of MTPA and bilirubin excretion. But there is a close relation between blood level or tissue concentration of MTPA and bilirubin excretion. Concerning the influence of deoxycholic acid on the therapeutic effect of MTPA, deoxycholic acid would enhance the effect of MTPA, if the parasites take the drug from the blood, but diminish its effectiveness if they take the drug from the bile.
