  • The initial irreversible capacity, $Q_i$, is one of the parameters to express the material balancing of the cathode to anode. We introduced new terms, which are the initial intercalation Ah efficiency (IIE) and the initial irreversible specific capacity at the surface ($Q_{is}$), to express precisely the irreversibility of an electrode/electrolyte system. Two terms depended on kinds of active-materials and compositions of the electrode, but did not change with charging state. MPCF had the highest value of IIE and the lowest value of $Q_{is}$ in 1M $LiPE_6$/EC + DEC (1 : 1 volume ratio) electrolyte. IIE value of $LiCoO_2$ electrode was 97-98%, although the preparation condition of the material and the electrolyte were different. $Q_{is}$ value of $LiCoO_2$ was 0~1 mAh/g. MPCF-$LiCoO_2$ cell system had the lowest of the latent capacity. $Q_{is}$ value increased slightly by adding conductive material. IIE and $Q_{is}$ value varied with the electrolyte. By introducing PC to EC+DEC mixed solvent, IIE values were retained, but $Q_{is}$ increased. In case of addition of MP, IIE value increased and $Q_{is}$ value also increased a little.

  • In this paper, the effects of material properties on the friction and wear behavior of pure metals are investigated. The sliding material pairs are selected based on their relative compatibility and relative hardness ratio of the specimen. The initial and steady-state friction coefficients are obtained in the experiments and the wear rates are quantitatively investigated. It is shown that the initial friction coefficient is affected by the hardness ratio of sliding materials. Furthermore, in steady state condition, neither hardness ratio nor compatibility has significant influence on the frictional behavior. As for wear, the ductility of the metal affects the wear particle generation process which in turn affects the frictional behavior. The findings of this research suggest that frictional interaction cannot be simply characterized by either compatibility or hardness ratio of the materials undergoing sliding contact.

  • Instead of the extended Kalman filter, the unscented Kalman filter (UKF) has been used in nonlinear systems without initial accurate state estimates over the last decade because the UKF is robust against large initial estimation errors. However, in a multirate integrated system, such as an inertial navigation system (INS)/Global Positioning System (GPS) integrated navigation system, it is difficult to implement a UKF-based navigation algorithm in a low-grade or mid-grade microcontroller, owing to a large computational burden. To overcome this problem, this letter proposes a modified UKF that has a reduced computational burden based on the basic idea that the change of probability distribution for the state variables between measurement updates is small in a multirate INS/GPS integrated navigation filter. The performance of the modified UKF is verified through numerical simulations.

  • In this study various nutritional and environmental parameters such as, initial moisture content, pH. inoculum size, air rate, sample size and nutrient supplement that influence pigment production were evaluated in solid-state cultures. optimum initial moisture content and pH were determined to be 50% and 6.0, respectively. The supplement of the substrate with different carbon, nitrogen, and mineral source reveals a more inhibitive effect as the substrate concentration increase. optimum aeration rate was determined to be 2vvm in flask culture. The maximum amount of red pigment, 3500 OD/g dried fermented rice, was obtained in optimum conditions which is obtained in solid flask culture.

  • A new finite elemetn approach is introduced for direct prediction of bland shapes and strain distributions from desired final shapes in sheet metal forming. The approach deals with the geometric compatibility of finite elements, plastic deformation theory, minimization of plastic work with constraints, and a proper initial guess. The algorithm developed is applied to cylindrical cup drawing, square cup drawing, and fron fender forming to confirm its validity by demonstratin reasonable accurate numerical results of each problems. Rapid calculation with this algorithm enables easy determination of various process variables for design of sheet metal forming process.

  • This paper proposes an optimum, problematic design for structural and control systems, taking a 3-D truss structure as an example. The structure is subjected to initial static loads and time-varying disturbances. The structure is controlled by a state feedback H$_{\infty}$ controller which suppress the effects of disturbances. The design variables are the cross sectional areas of truss members. The structural objective function is the structural weight. For the control objective, we consider two types of performance indices, The first function represents the effect of the initial loads. The second function is the norm of the feedback gain, These objective functions are in conflict with each other but are transformed into one control objective by the weighting method. The structural objectives is treated as the constraint, By introducing the second control objective which considers the magnitude of the feedback gain, we can create a design to model errors.

  • This paper discusses about a robust servo system applying PID control to PMSM. The system has robustness by Sliding Mode Controller. A novel sliding surface is defined by virtual state. This sliding surface has nominal dynamics of an original PID control system. So Sliding Mode Control(SMC) technique can be used with PID controller. Its design is based on the augmented system whose dynamics have a higher order than that of the original system. The reaching phase is removed by using an initial virtual state whitch makes the initial sliding function equal to zero.

  • The aluminum dome has been widely used in natatorium, oil storage tank, power plant, coal, as well as other industrial buildings and structures. However, few research has focused on the structural behavior and design method of this dome. At present, most designs of aluminum alloy domes have referred to theories and methods of steel spatial structures. However, aluminum domes and steel domes have many differences, such as elasticity moduli, roof structures, and joint rigidities, which make the design and analysis method of steel spatial structures not fully suitable for aluminum alloy dome structures. In this study, a stability analysis method, which can consider structural imperfection, member initial curvature, semi-rigid joint, and skin effect, was presented and used to study the stability behavior of aluminum dome structures. In addition, some meaningful conclusions were obtained, which could be used in future designs and analyses of aluminum domes.

  • In this paper, a novel sliding surface is proposed by defining a novel virtual state. This sliding surface has nominal dynamics of an original system and makes it possible that the Discrete-Time Sliding Mode Control(DSMC) technique is used with the various types of controllers. Its design Is based on the augmented system whose dynamics have a higher order than that of the original system. The reaching phase is removed by using an initial virtual state which makes the initial sliding function equal to zero.

  • The shrinkage rate of solid state sintering has been theoretically derived by combining the rate equation of material transport and the net free energy change resulting from the decrease of solid-vapor interface and the increase of grain boundary during sintering. For a sinteing model an idealized situation of the spherical particles with BCC packing was taken as the initial condition and the shrinkage was assumed to occur by forming the flat circualr grain boundaries on each particle. The plotted shrinkage rates as a function of grain boundary to surface energy ratio $(gamma_g/gamma_s)$ have shown that the relative density increases linearly at the initial stage of sintering but the shrinkage rate is decreased upon further sintering due to a decrease in driving force for densificaton. It has been also shown that the densification is critically affected by the $gamma_g/gamma_s$ ratio. In order to get the complete densificatin the ratio should be less than $sqrt{3}$. Any additive or atmospheric condition causing the decrease of$_g/gamma_s$ ratio will enhance sintering.
