An Error Embedded Runge-Kutta Method for Initial Value Problems

  • In this paper, we propose an error embedded Runge-Kutta method to improve the traditional embedded Runge-Kutta method. The proposed scheme can be applied into most explicit embedded Runge-Kutta methods. At each integration step, the proposed method is comprised of two equations for the solution and the error, respectively. These solution and error are obtained by solving an initial value problem whose solution has the information of the error at each integration step. The constructed algorithm controls both the error and the time step size simultaneously and possesses a good performance in the computational cost compared to the original method. For the assessment of the effectiveness, the van der Pol equation and another one having a difficulty for the global error control are numerically solved. Finally, a two-body Kepler problem is also used to assess the efficiency of the proposed algorithm.

  • In the optimized design of an actual structure, the design variable should be selected among any certain values or corresponds to a discrete design variable that needs to handle the size of a pre-formatted part. Various algorithms have been developed for discrete design. As recently reported, the sequential algorithm with orthogonal arrays(SOA), which is a local minimum search algorithm in discrete space, has excellent local minimum search ability. It reduces the number of function evaluation using orthogonal arrays. However it only finds a local minimum and the final solution depends on the initial value. In this research, the genetic algorithm, which defines an initial population with the potential solution in a global space, is adopted in SOA. The new algorithm, sequential algorithm with orthogonal arrays and genetic algorithm(SOAGA), can find a global solution with the properties of genetic algorithm and the solution is found rapidly with the characteristics of SOA.

외판원문제에서 국지해를 탈출하기 위한 비용완화법 (Cost Relaxation Method to Escape from a Local Optimum of the Traveling Salesman Problem)

  • This paper provides a simple but effective method, cost relaxation to escape from a local optimum of the traveling salesman problem. We would find a better solution if we repeat a local search heuristic at a different initial solution. To find a different initial solution, we use the cost relaxation method relaxing the cost of arcs. We used the Lin-Kernighan algorithm as a local search heuristic. In experimental result, we tested large instances, 30 random instances and 34 real world instances. In real-world instances, we found average 0.17% better above the optimum solution than the Concorde known as the chained Lin-Kernighan. In clustered random instances, we found average 0.9% better above the optimum solution than the Concorde.

Minimum-Energy Spacecraft Intercept on Non-coplanar Elliptical Orbits Using Genetic Algorithms

  • The objective of this study was to optimize minimum-energy impulsive spacecraft intercept using genetic algorithms. A mathematical model was established on two-body system based on f and g solution and universal variable to address spacecraft intercept problem for non-coplanar elliptical orbits. This nonlinear problem includes many local optima due to discontinuity and strong nonlinearity. In addition, since it does not provide a closed-form solution, it must be solved using a numerical method. Therefore, the initial guess is that a very sensitive factor is needed to obtain globally optimal values. Genetic algorithms are effective for solving these kinds of optimization problems due to inherent properties of random search algorithms. The main goal of this paper was to find minimum energy solution for orbit transfer problem. The numerical solution using initial values evaluated by the genetic algorithm matched with results of Hohmann transfer. Such optimal solution for unrestricted arbitrary elliptic orbits using universal variables provides flexibility to solve orbit transfer problems.

황산바나듐 모의용액으로부터 Alamine336에 의한 바나듐 용매추출의 최적조건 연구 (The Optimum Condition Analysis of Vanadium Solvent Extraction by Alamine336 from the Synthetic Vanadium Sulfate Solution.)

  • The solvent extraction process for the recovery of vanadium from leaching solution of SCR(selective catalytic reduction) spent catalyst was investigated by using Alamine336 as an extractant. The effects of experimental conditions, such as initial pH and concentration of sulfate ion, and ammonia concentration of stripping solution were studied. The extraction percentage of vanadium were increased with the increase of initial pH of leaching solution and decreased with the increase of sulfate ion. More than 99% of vanadium in leaching solution were extracted and stripped at the A/O ratio of 1.0 in 2 stages. On the basis of these results, an optimum solvent extraction process which vanadium was effectively recovered from SCR spent catalyst was proposed.

염산용액에서 Cyanex 272 및 혼합용매와 이온성 액체에 의한 Tb(III)의 용매추출 (Solvent Extraction of Tb(III) from Hydrochloric Acid Solution with Cyanex 272, Its Mixture and Ionic Liquid)

  • Cyanex 272 shows the highest separation factor for the rare earth elements from hydrochloric acid solution among the organophosporus acidic extractants, D2EHPA and PC 88A. Solvent extraction of Tb(III) from weak hydrochloric acid solution with an initial pH 3 to 6 was compared with Cyanex 272, its mixture with Alamine 336, and ionic liquid with Aliquat 336. The solvent extraction reaction of Tb(III) using Cyanex 272 was the same as that of light rare earth elements. Synergism was observed for the extraction of Tb(III) by the mixture with Alamine 336 when the initial concentration ratio of Cyanex 272 to Alamine 336 was higher than 5. Use of the ionic liquid led to a great increase in the extraction percentage of Tb(III) from the same initial extraction conditions. While the equilibrium pH of the mixture was always lower than the initial pH, under some conditions extraction with the ionic liquid resulted in a higher equilibrium pH than the initial pH. The loading capacity of the mixture and the ionic liquid was the same and 2.6 times larger than that using Cyanex 272 alone. Ionic liquid was recommended as a suitable extractant for the extraction of Tb(III) from hydrochloric acid solution based on the ease of handling and higher extraction percentage.

수중 펄스코로나 방전에 의한 메틸오렌지 제거 특성 (Degradation of methyl orange by pulsed corona discharges in aqueous solution)

  • A laboratory experiment on methyl orange degradation in pulsed corona discharges was carried out. Effects of operating parameters such as applied voltage, pH, conductivity and initial concentration on methyl orange degradation were investigated. The pulsed corona discharges decreased the pH of solution and increased conductivity, probably due to products generated from methyl orange degradation by corona discharges. The decrease of initial pH enhanced the methyl orange degradation. The methyl orange degradation was fastest in $100{\mu}S/cm$ conductivity solution, followed by 50 and $200{\mu}S/cm$, indicating that $100{\mu}S/cm$ is the most favorable in the aspect of radical generation among the experimented conditions. The methyl orange of initial concentration from 20 to 60mg/L was effectively degraded in pulsed corona discharges. The lower initial concentration of methyl orange, the faster degradation was observed.

無電解 Ni-Cu-P 廢 도금액의 재사용에 관한 연구 (A Study on Reusing of Electroless Ni-Cu-P Waste Solution)

  • 무전해 Ni-Cu-P폐 도금액의 재사용에 대해 소정의 조건에서 조사하였다. 아연화처리한 후 니켈 촉매의 처리는 니켈 촉매처리를 하지 않았을 때 보다 도금시간이 연장되었다 Batch type에서 새로 제조한 도금액에 폐 도금액을 50% 첨가하여도 무전해 Ni-Cu-P 폐 도금액의 재사용이 가능하였다. 새로 제조한 도금액에 소모된 도금액의 성분을 연속적으로 보충하여 도금하면(Continuous type), 보충하지 않았을 경우(B기ch type)보다 도금시간이 10배 연장되었다. 새로 제조한 도금액에 폐 도금액 50%를 첨가하여 소모된 도금액의 성분을 연속적으로 보충할 경우(Continuous type)의 도금시간은 보충하지 않았을 경우(Batch type)의 도금시간 보다 3.7배 연장되었다. 도금층의 불량과 급격한 도금속도의 감소는 도금층의 Ni과 Cu의 성분 변화에 큰 영향을 미쳤다.

  • 스피어 디코더의 초기 반지름 결정 문제는 비트 오율 (bit error rate)과 복잡도에 있어서 많은 영향을 미친다. 이런 초기 반지름은 채널의 통계적 특성을 고려함으로 설정되거나, MMSE 결정 값을 이용하여 설정할 수 있다. 채널의 통계적 특성을 이용한 방법은 초기 반지름이 송신 신호에 해당하는 격자점을 매우 높은 확률로 포함한다. MMSE 결정 값을 이용하는 방법은 먼저 수신 신호에서 MMSE 연 판정 부호(soft output information)을 얻은 후, 경 판정(hard decision)을 내린 다음, 수신 신호 공간에서 경 판정 부호에 해당하는 격자점을 찾는다. 그리고 수신 신호와 경 판정 부호에 해당하는 격자점 사이의 유클리디안 거리(Euclidean distance)를 초기 반지름으로 설정한다. 본 논문에서는 채널의 통계적 특성을 이용한 방법에 있어서 기존의 복잡한 수식에 비해 간단한 새로운 식을 유도하고, MMSE 결정값을 이용한 방법과 비교 연구 하였다. 비교를 위해 'Tightness'라는 새로운 측도를 이용하였다. 전산 실험 결과, 낮은 SNR 영역과 중간 정도의 SNR 영역에서는 MMSE를 이용한 방법의 더 많이 디코딩 복잡도 감소를 보였고, 높은 SNR 영역에서는 채널의 통계적 특성을 이용한 방법이 더 낮은 디코딩 복잡도를 보였다.
