By the recently, Environmental pollution is serious by the highly economic growth and expansion of lively country basic industry. Especially, in case of industrial waste and life waste leaped into a pollution source. Also, research for processing of waste and recycling countermeasure is a pressing question on national dimension because it is prohibited an ocean disposal and reclamation. In this study, it looked for fracture characteristic value of recycling a coal ash to decrease environmental pollution by picky and exhaustion of natural resources and to reduce self-weight to prepare for a tall building and earthquake. So a coal ash examined to be possible to do as construction material. It achieved compressive strength test and three points bending test with initial notch depth rate and age for variables to show a basic research data. From the basis of the three points bending test, the fracture parameters - notch sensitivity, fracture energy, initial compliance were experimentally proposed. From the results of the compressive strength test, the elastic modulus was experimentally proposed. Also on the basis of the three points bending test, the fracture parameters - notch sensitivity, fracture energy, initial compliance were experimentally proposed. The results that the strength and fracture energy value are lower than concrete or mortar is described in this paper. Also, it shows that the deflection at fracture decreases as the age increases and the notch sensitivity decrease. However, it is judged to be available to construction material if research is continuously gone forward.

The chemorheological changes and kinetics during curing reaction of an silica filled epoxy system (DGEBA with curing agent Polyxoypropylenediamine) were investigated. This study concentrates on the influence of silica on the reaction kinetics and rheological behavior of the eopxy system. The concentration of the filler was varied 0~200phr. Curing behavior of the silica filled epoxy system was measured at various heating rates with DSC. Conversion was also measured by integrating the obtained DSC curve and Kinetic parameters measured by using the nonlinear regression method. DSC experiments showed that the presence of silica was found to accelerate the progress of the curing reaction and of reduce the heat of reaction compared with that of unfilled epoxy systems . Rheological experiments were conducted on a Physica by using a disposable parallel plate fixture. Material properites were measured such as the elastic modulus(G′), the loss modulus(G"), the loss tangent(tan $\delta$), and the viscosity was at the initial stahe, and the more the silica filler was added, and the lower the gel temperature was in the epoxy system. In this study it is concluded that the curing of the silica filled epoxy system was found to be accelerated, as silica was added to the epoxy compound.
Electrostatically actuated test devices were designed to evaluate the elastic modulus of single crystalline Si (100) materials for MEMS device. Elastic modolus was calculated from resonant frequency by applying Rayleigh's energy method. Temperature effect on elastic properties was evaluated by detecting the resonant frequency change with increasing temperature to $600^{\circ}C$. The elastic modulus was decreased with heating and then increased with cooling, but specimen with thermal cycle showed a permanent change which is lower than the initial value. This phenomenon was explained by the change of interatomic force and the formation of $SiO_2$ layer on Si. The thickness of oxide layer was estimated by considering the change of mass and stiffness, and the formation of oxide layer was observed by the SEM photograph.

The present study aimed at investigating the effect of a special plaster on the out-of-plane behavior of masonry walls. A reference specimen, plastered with conventional plaster, and a specimen plastered with a special plastered were tested under reversed cyclic lateral loading. The specimens were identical in dimensions and material properties. The special plaster contained an additive, which increased the adherence strength of the plaster to the wall. The amount of the additive in the mortar was adjusted based on the preliminary material tests. The influence of the plaster on the wall behavior was evaluated according to the initial cracking load, type of failure, energy absorption capacity (modulus of toughness), and crack pattern of the wall. Despite having limited contribution to the ductility, the special plaster increased the ultimate load capacity of the wall about 25%. The failure mode of the wall with special plaster resembled the plastic failure mechanism of a reinforced concrete slab in the formation of yielding lines along the wall. The deflection at failure and the modulus of toughness of the wall with special plaster were measured to be in order of 60% and 75% of the corresponding values of the reference wall.

In the present study, a series of laboratory tests with sands of different silt contents, are conducted and methods to assess non-linear behaviors based on in-situ test results are proposed. Modified hyperbolic stress-strain model is used to analyze non-linearity of silty sands in terms of non-linear degradation parameters f and g as a function of silt contents and relative density $D_R$. Stress-strain relationship results were obtained from a series of triaxial tests on sands containing different amounts of silt. Initial shear modulus which was applied to normalize modulus degradation of silty sands were determined based on the resonant column test results. From the laboratory test results, it was observed that, as the relative density increases, values of f decrease and those of g increase. Cone resistance $q_c$ for silty soil condition used in the triaxial tests were estimated based on the cavity expansion analysis. A suggestion to make an estimation of degradation parameters f and g as a function of fine contents is addressed in terms of cone resistance $q_c$ .

In this study, it is attempted to examine (1) the residual deformation and elastic deformation induced from the repeated loads (up to the maximum of 100,000 times) on fully compacted soil specimen, the relation between stress and strain by performing the unconfined compressive test, after repeated loads and (2) the effect of water content, dry density, number of cycle, repeated loads, etc. on the effect of the stress-strain relation. The rate of deformation caused by repeated loads greatly depends on to the condition whether the water content is above or below the plastic limit. It is possible to estimate the initial tangent modulus of soil by means of modulus of elastic deformation obtained by putting repeated loads on the clay soil.

In this study, the effect of external restraint on the thermal stresses and thermal cracking mode in mass concrete are analysed using the two major factors affecting external restraint such as the ratio of width go height of the placed structure (L/H) and the elastic modulus of base structure (E). For this parametric study, many cases with different values of L/H and Er are analysed by the FEM program and the co-relationship of the those major factors is examined. To evaluate the effect of external restraint on the thermal behavior of placing structure, internal restraint stress caused by temperature difference is subtracted from total thermal stress. In the case of small value of L/H or Er, it shows as internally restricted mode indicating maximum tensile stress in surface at early age, and the external restraint makes the possibility of thermal cracking higher. However, in the case of the large values of L/H and Er, the crack index at center is smaller than at surface due to the effect of external restraint. Thus, the initial location of the thermal crack is shifted from the surface to the center and the resulting crack is formed at later age.
The prestress force effect on the fundamental frequency and deflection shape of Prestressed Concrete I (PCI) beams was studied in this paper. Currently, due to the conflicts among existing theories, the analytical solution for properly considering the structural behavior of these prestressed members is not clear. A series of experiments were conducted on a large-scale PCI beam of high strength concrete with an eccentric straight unbonded tendon. Specifically, the simply supported PCI beam was subjected to free vibration and three-point bending tests with different prestress forces. Subsequently, the experimental data were compared with analytical results based on the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. It was proved that the fundamental frequency of PCI beams is unaffected by the increasing applied prestress force, if the variation of the initial elastic modulus of concrete with time is considered. Vice versa, the relationship between the deflection shape and prestress force is well described by the magnification factor formula of the compression-softening theory assuming the secant elastic modulus.
Poly(p-hydroxybenzoate) (PHB)/poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) 8/2 thermotropic liquid crystalline copolyester, poly(ethylene 2,6-naphthalate) (PEN) and PET were mechanically blended to obtain the pseudo liquid crystalline (LC) phase of ternary blends. The torque values of blends with increasing PHB content were abruptly decreased above 40 wt% of PHB content, because the melt viscosity of ternary blends decreased. Tensile strength and initial modulus of blends containing above 30 wt% PHB were improved with increasing PHB content. Tensile strength and modulus of fiber were increased with PHB contents and take-up speed. Degree of transesterification and randomness of blends were increased with blending time. The blend of 40 wt% PHB was shown pseudo LC phase in the polarized optical photographs. Crystallinity of PHB/PEN/PET ternary blend were increased with PHB content.

An experiment with the objective of providing guidelines for joint depth determination and timing of contraction joint sawcutting to avert uncontrolled cement concrete pavement cracking has been conducted. Theoretical analysis and laboratory tests were performed to help in understanding and analyzing the field observation. Using two-dimensional elastic fracture mechanics, the influence of several parameters on crack propagation was delineated by a parametric study, involving initial notch ratio, joint spacing, Young's modulus and thermal expansion coefficient of concrete, temperature gradient, and modulus of subgrade reaction. Bimaterials made of rock plus cement mortar and rock plus polymer mortar were applied to the concrete in a field test section, and they were subjected to fracture tests. These tests have shown that fracture mechanics is a powerful tool not only in judging the quality of the jointed cement concrete pavement but also in providing a criterion for crack propagation and delamination. Based on fracture mechanics, a method is proposed to determine the joint depth, sawcut timing, and spacing of the jointed cement concrete pavement. This method has successfully been applied to a test section in Seohaean expressway. This study also summarizes the research results obtained from a field test for jointed plain concrete pavement, which was also carried out on the Seohaean expressway.
