Nonlinear static and vibration analysis of Euler-Bernoulli composite beam model reinforced by FG-SWCNT with initial geometrical imperfection using FEM

  • In this paper, the nonlinear static and free vibration analysis of Euler-Bernoulli composite beam model reinforced by functionally graded single-walled carbon nanotubes (FG-SWCNTs) with initial geometrical imperfection under uniformly distributed load using finite element method (FEM) is investigated. The governing equations of equilibrium are derived by the Hamilton's principle and von Karman type nonlinear strain-displacement relationships are employed. Also the influences of various loadings, amplitude of the waviness, UD, USFG, and SFG distributions of carbon nanotube (CNT) and different boundary conditions on the dimensionless transverse displacements and nonlinear frequency ratio are presented. It is seen that with increasing load, the displacement of USFG beam under force loads is more than for the other states. Moreover it can be seen that the nonlinear to linear natural frequency ratio decreases with increasing aspect ratio (h/L) for UD, USFG and SFG beam. Also, it is shown that at the specified value of (h/L), the natural frequency ratio increases with the increasing the values amplitude of waviness while the dimensionless nonlinear to linear maximum deflection decreases. Moreover, with considering the amplitude of waviness, the stiffness of Euler-Bernoulli beam model reinforced by FG-CNT increases. It is concluded that the R parameter increases with increasing of volume fraction while the rate of this parameter decreases. Thus one can be obtained the optimum value of FG-CNT volume fraction to prevent from resonance phenomenon.

  • 본 연구의 목적은 탄소섬유쉬트(CFS)로 보강된 RC보의 보강시 상재하중의 유무에 따른 보강효과와 휨거동을 실험적으로 고찰하는 것이다. 실험변수는 인장철근비(0.85, 1.32, 1.91%)와 상재하중(무보강보의 항복내력의 80%)으로 한다. 보강보의 구조적 거동을 항복하중과 극한하중, 하중-중앙부 처짐 관계, 연성, 보강 효과의 항으로 비교하였다. 실험결과로부터, CFS로 보강된 RC보의 극한 내력과 휨파괴거동이 원부재와 부착된 CFS 간의 초기응력에 의해 변화하는 것으로 나타났다.

  • This paper presents a three dimensional automatic mesh generation scheme for the boundary element method, and this scheme can be applicable to practical problems of complex shape. The geometry of the problem is expressed as an assemblage of linear Coon's surfaces, and each surface is made up of four edge curves which are defined in the form of a parametric function. Curves are automatically segmented according to their characteristics. With these segments of curves, interior points and triangular mesh elements are generated in the parametric plane using Lindholm's method, and then their projection on the real surface forms the initial mesh. The refinement of initial mesh is performed so that the discrete triangular planes are close to the real continuous surfaces. The bisection method is used for the refinement. Finally, interior points in the refined mesh are rearranged so as to make each element be close with an equilateral triangle. An attempt has been made to apply the proposed method to a DY(Deflection Yoke) model.

Investigation of Pyrolyzed Polyimide Thin Film as MEMS Material

  • Pyrolyzed polyimide is explored in terms of MEMS material. This paper describes chemical, electrical, mechanical properties of pyrolyzed polyimide (PIX-1400) thin film as MEMS material. When polyimide thin film was pyrolyzed at $800^{\circ}C$ for 60 minutes in $N_{2}$ ambient, the residual ratio of pyrolyzed film thickness measured with a surface profiler is about 49 %, and the resistivity is about $2.17{\times}10^{-2}\;{Omega}cm$. From the result of the load-deflection test, the estimated Young's modulus and initial average stress of pyrolyzed polyimide are 67 GPa and 30 MPa, respectively. As one demonstration of MEMS structures of pyrolyzed polyimide, the fabrication method of the microbridge structure is proposed for a micro heater and a resonator.

  • This paper studies nonlinear stability behavior of a nanocrystalline silicon curved nanoshell considering strain gradient size-dependency. Nanocrystallines are composite materials with an interface phase and randomly distributed nano-size grains and pores. Imperfectness of the curved nanoshell has been defined based on an initial deflection. The formulation of nanocrystalline nanoshell has been established by thin shell theory and an analytical approach has been used in order to solve the buckling problem. For accurately describing the size effects related to nano-grains or nano-pores, their surface energies have been included. Nonlinear stability curves of the nanoshell are affected by the size of nano-grain, curvature radius and nano-pore volume fraction. It is found that increasing the nano-pore volume fraction results in lower buckling loads.

  • A concept of the perch landing assisted by thruster (PLAT) for a fixed wind aircraft is proposed in this paper. The proposed concept is applicable to relatively large unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), hence can overcome the limitation of existing perch landing technologies. A planar rigid body motion of an aircraft with aerodynamic and thruster forces and moments is modeled. An optimal control problem to minimize the fuel consumption by determining the histories of thruster and elevator deflection angle with specified terminal landing condition is formulated and solved. A parametric study for various initial conditions and thruster parameters is conducted to demonstrate the practicability of the proposed concept.

  • In this paper, new buck converter of a TV power system is presented. First, we devised a revised driving circuit for an emitter-coupled type buck converter, by which it is possible to reduce the material cost of transformers and voltage stress of power device. Secondly, we adopted a hybrid oscillation technique. When TV system is in off-stage, initial standby power which is necessary for remote controllable TV system is supplied by self-oscillating mode. Main power which is necessry in TV system bing on state is provided by an externally triggered oscillating mode. The switching frequency is synchronized to the oscillating frequency of horizontal deflection in TV, by which we can reduce picture noises and the size of power transformer. Thirdly, a simple error amplifier is inserted to the feed-back loop to keep the output voltage constant which means pulse width modulatio mode is added in driving part of power device. Finally, we showed by experiments that our proposed converter performs well enough to be close to the theoretically predicted values.

  • In this paper, the solution of two dimensional deflection of circular wavy elastica beam was obtained for one end clamped boundary and concentrated load condition. The beam was regarded as a linear elastic material. Wavy shape was described as a combination of half-circular arc smoothly connected each other with constant curvature of all the same magnitude and alternative sign. Also load direction was taken into account. As a result, the solution was expressed in terms of a series of integral equations. While we found the exact solutions and expressed them in terms of elliptic integrals, the recursive ignition formulae about the displacement and arc length at each segment of circular section were obtained. Algorithm of determining unknown parameters was established and the profile curve of deflected beam was shown compared with initial shape.

  • Steel fiber and polymer are used widely for reinforcement material of RC structures because of its excellences of the durability, serviceability as well as mechanical properties. The purpose of this study is investigate the shear behavior of high concrete beams input polymer-steel fibrous. The static test was carried out to measure the ultimate load, the initial load of flexural and diagonal cracking, crack patterns and fracture modes. Also, load-strain and load-deflection examined, during the test cracks are sketched the load values according to grow of crack.

레이저 용접 차체의 성형해석과 금형설계 (Stamping Analysis and Die Design of Laser Welded Automotive Body)

  • Computer simulations and test trials were carried out to obtain the optimal stamping conditions of the die design of the laser welded automotive body. The stamping process including gravity deflection bead calibration binder wrap, forming and spring back was simulated and compared with the results obtained from test trials. The production variables were determined from a preliminary operation and they were investigated in the simulation and the test trials. The formability was tested under the various conditions, such as the initial position of blank, blank holding force, corner radius and the shape of drawbead. Sound products without fracture, wrinkling and excessive weldline movement were produced by applying results obtained this investigation.
