  • A selection of commercially available poly(ethy1ene terephtha1ate) fibers with different degrees of molecular alignment and crystallinity have been investigated utilizing a wide range of techniques including optical microscopy, infrared spectroscopy together with thermal and wide-angle X-ray diffraction techniques. Annealing experiments showed increased molecular alignment and crystallinity as shown by the increased values of birefringence and melting enthalpies. Crystallinity values determined from thermal analysis, density, unpolarized infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction are compared and discussed in terms of the inherent capabilities and limitations of each measurement technique. The birefringence and refractive index values obtained from optical microscopy are found to decrease with increasing wavelength of light used in the experiments. The wide-angle X-ray diffraction analysis shows that the samples with relatively low orientation possess oriented non-crystalline array of chains whereas those with high molecular orientation possess well defined and oriented crystalline array of chains along the fiber axis direction. X-ray analysis showed increasing crystallite size trend with increasing molecular orientation. SEM images showed micro-cracks on low oriented fiber surfaces becoming smooth on highly oriented fiber surfaces. Excellent bending characteristics were observed with knotted fibers implying relatively easy fabric formation.

  • Disc cutter is a key cutting tool for rock excavation by TBMs. This study aimed to characterize the deformation of a cutter ring by strain measurement as well as infrared thermal camera measurement during a series of linear cutting tests for a hard rock. The strain measurement results indicated that the cutter ring clearly showed a linear elastic behavior. The data obtained from the infrared thermal camera measurement demonstrated that the maximum temperature increase in the cutter ring was below $14.4^{\circ}C$. The deformation and temperature increase of the cutter ring during rock cutting were insignificant in a given cutting test condition of this study.

It sense that the occupants purpose to control the smart airbag for safety in the case of adult or child and to control the automatic air conditioning for convenience. This paper described the design and the fabrication of microbolometers which were composed of 2 by 8 elements using the surface micromachining technology. The characteristics of the array were investigated in the spectral region of $8{\sim}12{\mu}m$. The fabricated detectors exhibited the thermal mass of $7.05{\times}10^{-9}\;J/K$, the thermal conductance of $1.03{\times}10^{-6}\;W/K$, the thermal time constant of 6.8 ms, the responsivity of $2.96{\times}10^4\;V/W$ and the detectivity of $1.01{\times}10^9\;cmHz^{1/2}/W$, at the chopper frequency of 10 Hz and the bias current of $4.4{\mu}A$. We could successfully detect the human body condition in the divided zone. As a results, we concluded that microbolometer optimized in this research could be useful for the application of passenger conditional detection in vehicle.

  • A noble infrared $\lambda/4$ absorbing structure using metal reflector was studied for uncooled infrared sensors. This paper described the design and the fabrication of IR uncooled detectors which were composed of 21 by 21 elements using the surface micromachining technology. The characteristics of the array were investigated in the spectral region of 4.26 ${\mu}m$. The fabricated detectors exhibited the thermal mass of $9.75\times10^{-9}$ J/K, the thermal conductance of $1.31\times10^{-6}$ W/K, the thermal time constant of 7.4 ms, the responsivity of $1.07\times10^5$ V/W and the detectivity of $1.04\times10^9$ $cmHz^{1/2}/W$, at the chopper frequency of 10 Hz and the bias current of 9.22${\mu}A$. Finally the absorptance efficiency of $\lambda/4$ absorbing structure was about 23.2 % higher than that of absence absorbing structure.

  • The changes in the blood flow in the peripheral vascular system under strong pulsed magnetic fields (pMF) were studied by digital infrared thermal imaging (DITI). After pMF stimulus temperatures in stimulated area were commonly increased in both groups of age and gender. In order to reduce heat generated from coil in pMF stimulus system plastic moldings were fabricated, so that certain distance was kept between stimulus system and the skin and to prevent direct contact to the skin. It is believed that skin temperature is increased by internal electromagnetic energy stimulated the peripheral vascular system by non-contact method.

  • The infrared energy is emitted in the infrared wavelength range that corresponds to the surface temperature of a object which has temperature that is over the absolute the temperature(OK). The infrared thermography (IRT) is a non-destrnctive testing method that provides thermal video for the user in real-time by converting the infrared quantity that is detected by the infrared detector into temperature. The pipes of nuclear power plant(NPP) could be thinned by the corrosion and fatigue and the defect could lead to a big accident. For this reason, the effective non-destructive testing method is necessary. In this study, the relationship between the measured temperature and the defect depth or size of NPP pipes were recognized and that was applied to detect the wall thinning defects of NPP pipes.

  • Infrared radiation (IR) refers to the region of the electromagnetic radiation spectrum where wavelengths range from about 700 nm to 1 mm. Any object with a temperature above absolute zero (0 K) radiates in the infrared region, and a material that transmits radiant energy in the range of 0.74 to 1.4 um is referred to as a near-infrared optical material. Germanate-based glass is attracting attention as a glass material for infrared optical lenses because of its simple manufacturing process. With the recent development of the glass molding press (GMP) process, thermal imaging cameras using oxide-based infrared lenses can be easily mass-produced, expanding their uses. To improve the mechanical and optical properties of commercial materials consisting of ternary systems, germanate-based heavy metal oxide glasses were prepared using a melt-cooling method. The fabricated samples were evaluated for thermal, structural, and optical properties using DSC, XRD, and XRF, respectively. To derive a composition with high glass stability for lens applications, ZnO and Sb2O3 were substituted at 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 mol%. The glass with 1 mol% added Sb2O3 was confirmed to have the optimal conditions, with an optical transmittance of 80 % or more, a glass transition temperature of 660 ℃, a refractive index of 1.810, and a Vickers hardness of 558. The possibility of its application as an alternative infrared lens material to existing commercial materials capable of GMP processing was confirmed.

  • Recently infrared cameras have been widely used to diagnosis degradation status of the power substitution system. At the place of high magnetic field, however, electronic parts of infrared camera take a place problem that is not reasonable working due to high magnetic field. In this paper, technique of design for reflector is proposed to perform degradation diagnosis without damage of infrared camera in a power substation system including the rectifier that is able to impact to the infrared camera by high magnetic field.

  • In resent years, temperature segregation has been identified as one of the most important concepts concerning segregation. An Infrared Camera is one of the tools that have been recognized to be effective in identifying temperature segregation. Several state of USA have recognized the problem and have enacted Specifications, and/or test procedures to eliminate temperature segregation. The major objective of this study is to investigate effective compaction method of hot mix asphalt during road construction using Infrared Camera.

  • Diagnosis or measurements using Infrared thermo-image hasn t been available. A quick diagnosis and thermal analysis can be possible when that kind of system is introduced to the investigation of each part. In this study, Infrared Camera, Thermo-vision 900 was used in order to investigate. Infrared Camera usually detects only Infrared wave from the light in order to illustrate the temperature distribution. Infrared diagnosis system can be applied to various field. Also, it is more effective to analyze temperature distribution on the machining center main-axis process.
