The Effects of STEAM-based Programming Education with Robot on Creativity and Character of Elementary School Students (로봇을 활용한 STEAM기반 프로그래밍교육이 초등학생의 창의성 및 인성에 미치는 효과)

  • STEAM is a multidisciplinary education program which intended to promote creative thinking by combining studies in the arts and STEM(Science, Technology, Engineer, Mathematics) fields. STEAM education can bring out creativities in students through educational activities of integrating and combining diverse studies. In this research, we integrated the educational elements of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and arts using robots and then developed an educational program that raises the creative and character (focused on collaboration and communication) of students in a more fun and effective way. Using our developed educational program, we taught 6th grade students of an elementary school located in Seoul. As the result, most of students were found to be enhanced in their creativity and character after participating in the STEAM-based programming education course.

  • Reading education is very important in order to promote the refinement, cultivate the emotion and complete the character to the secondary school students. This thesis deals with the establishment of reading education as a formal course in secondary schools, responsibility of teaching and problems related to recommended reading lists. Reading education must separate from the national language education because of literature centered education in reading education. If reading education was separated from the national language education, students can a n.0, pproach to the other cultural boundary besides other own and exchange their information and ideas. So, reading education must be included to the elective subjects in a independent course or become a compulsory subject in secondary school curriculum. The teacher of reading education must become the teacher librarian who has a firm faith and an intellectual accomplishment. But, teacher-librarian has much disadvantages such as the problems of promotion, the division of qualification between elementary school and secondary school, and a short-term training courses for teacher-librarian. Hence, theses problems music be solved in national administrative level. Recommended reading lists must be provided to the student in order to prevent confusion of the sense of value, to estimate their own reading ability by themselves and to establish life long reading plan. Therefore, both Korean Library Association and the Ministry of Education should re-examine and develop recommended reading lists. Finally, problems of a juvenile delinquency in the post industrial society have to be solved through reading education. To solve the juvenile delinquency problems, adolescents should cultivate their moral character and possesses abundant knowledge through reading education. Then, young adults will grow as sound citizen in the society.

  • This study focuses on the criteria for lessons that develop secondary students' creativity and character in mathematics classes. Literature used in this study is related to the future direction of education (e.g., Core competencies, Information and Communication Technology, Constructivism education) and intent of the revised mathematics curriculum. Lesson criteria for developing students' creativity and character include educational content associated with the real-world contexts, use of tools and resources, active participation and interaction, problem-solving skills, teachers' attitudes, and the classroom environment. This study suggests ways to implement mathematics lessons that build students' creativity and character.

  • 본 논문에서는 창의인성을 계발하기 위한 프로그래밍 교육 과정의 필요 요소를 논의하고자 한다. 프로그래밍 학습은 일반적인 상태에서 목적 상태로 변화하기 위한 방안을 구상하여 실행하는 전형적인 문제해결학습의 형태를 띤다. 이러한 프로그래밍 학습이 창의성을 길러주기 위해서는 학습자가 확산적으로 사고할 수 있는 교육내용이 포함되어야 한다. 또한 학습자의 인성을 향상 시키기 위해서는 학습자간의 의사소통과 교류를 강화하는 교수학습방법을 사용하고, 도덕적 논의를 교육 내용에 포함해야 한다.

A Comparative Analysis of the Method of Evaluation of Character Competence in High School Chemistry Classes Based on Collaborative Problem-Solving for Competency(CoProC) Instruction Model (협력적 문제해결 중심 교수모델(CoProC)을 적용한 고등학교 화학 수업에서의 인성역량 평가 방법에 대한 비교 분석)

  • The study applied chemistry classes based on Collaborative Problem-Solving for Competency(CoProC) Instruction Model to 86 high school seniors and recognized the resulting changes in Character Competence through character competence test, analysis of argumentation, and analysis of reflective writing. In addition, the analysis of the correlation between the assessment results showed what each evaluation method meant to assess Character Competence. The study found that the average score of Character Competence rose in all three assessments, but differences were found in the detailed factors. Character competency test is meaningful in helping students participate with a sense of mastery of learning as a self-evaluation, and the analysis of the argumentation process seems to be an appropriate evaluation method to evaluate the Character Competence shown by students' words and actions through course evaluations. An analysis of reflective writing showed the advantage of being able to analyze Character competencies that are difficult to show in action by looking back on the entire course of learning. In addition, given that the correlation between the three assessment results is very low, it is expected that the three Character competency assessment methods will be conducted together to obtain detailed and comprehensive information on students' character competencies.

  • This research addresses to establish a systematic approach to design a standard Hangul code system for educational purposes in development of CAI courseware using Korean, English, and Chinese characters, which requires data exchanges and database construction. In this paper, types of Korean alphabetic code systems already in use, their representational environments and consonant/vowel order have been studied and analysed. This paper presents the requirements that the hangul code system for educational purpose needs to obtain. First, it should be able to represent all contemporary as well as ancient Korean alphabets. Second, character elements should be separable. Third, consonant/vowel order should be determined to easily retrieve and exchange data. Lastly, the code should maintain compatibility with other national codes and provide uniqueness of user-defined character codes.

A Method of License Plate Location and Character Recognition based on CNN

  • At the present time, the economy continues to flourish, and private cars have become the means of choice for most people. Therefore, the license plate recognition technology has become an indispensable part of intelligent transportation, with research and application value. In recent years, the convolution neural network for image classification is an application of deep learning on image processing. This paper proposes a strategy to improve the YOLO model by studying the deep learning convolutional neural network (CNN) and related target detection methods, and combines the OpenCV and TensorFlow frameworks to achieve efficient recognition of license plate characters. The experimental results show that target detection method based on YOLO is beneficial to shorten the training process and achieve a good level of accuracy.

  • When Chinese character used in Korea, so did the characters' pronunciation, so many Korean Chinese characters today have similar pronunciation with Chinese, but since Korean and Chinese pronunciations were preserved and developed in different alphabets, the written letter of the pronunciation also differs. This study on Chinese education, has constructed and implemented an easy way to study Chinese pronunciations by creating conversion rule set between Chinese pronunciation, Chinese Hanyu latin Pinyin and Korean chinese character pronunciation consisting of an initial sound, a medial vowel, and a final consonant. This study has established web version and application version of this conversion rule set education system to enhance Chinese education.

Firm Classification based on MBTI Organizational Character Type: Using Firm Review Big Data (MBTI 조직성격유형화에 따른 기업분류: 기업리뷰 빅데이터를 활용하여)

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study is to classify KOSPI listed companies according to their organizational character type based on MBTI. Design/methodology/approach - This study collected 109,989 reviews from an online firm review website, Jobplanet. Using these reviews and the descriptions about organizational character, we conducted document similarity analysis. Doc2Vec technique was hired for the analysis. Findings - First, there are more companies belonging to Extraversion(E), Intuition(N), Feeling(F), and Judging(J) than Introversion(I), Sensing(S), Thinking(T), and Perceiving(P) as organizational character types of MBTI. Second, more companies have EJ and EP as the behavior type and NT and NF as the decision-making type. Third, the top-3 organizational character type of which firms have among 16 types are ENTJ, ENFP, and ENFJ. Finally, companies belonging to the same industry group were found to have similar organizational character. Research implications or Originality - This study provides a noble way to measure organizational character type using firm review big data and document similarity analysis technique. The research results can be practically used for firms in their organizational diagnosis and organizational management, and are meaningful as a basic study for various future studies to empirically analyze the impact of organizational character.

  • Writing a CAI program containing Chinese characters requires a common Chinese character code to share information for educational purposes. A Chinese character code setting needs to allow a mixed use of both vowel and stroke order, to represent Chinese characters in simplified Chinese as well as in Japanese version, and to have a conversion process for data exchange among different sets of Chinese codes. Waste in code area is expected when vowel order is used because heteronyms are recognized as different. However, using stroke order facilitates in data recovery preventing duplicate code generation, though it does not comply with the phonetic rule. We claim that the first and second level Chinese code area needs to be expanded as much as academic and industrial circles have demanded. Also, we assert that Unicode can be a temporary measure for an educational code system due to its interoperability, expandability, and expressivity of character sets.
