Usefulness of RHadoop in Case of Healthcare Big Data Analysis (RHadoop을 이용한 보건의료 빅데이터 분석의 유효성)

  • R has become a popular analytics platform as it provides powerful analytic functions as well as visualizations. However, it has a weakness in which scalability is limited. As an alternative, the RHadoop package facilitates distributed processing of R programs under the Hadoop platform. This paper investigates usefulness of the RHadoop package when analyzing healthcare big data that is widely open in the internet space. To do this, this paper has compared analytic performances of R and RHadoop using the medical treatment records of year 2015 provided by National Health Insurance Service. The result shows that RHadoop effectively enhances processing performance of healthcare big data compared with R.

  • Visualizations have played an important role in understanding new insights of users of social network for social network analysis. Most of the previous works of visualization focus on representing user's relationship on social network by a complex multi dimension graph. However, this method is difficult to identify the important of relationship to focus on personal user intuitively. Besides, the user's messages to reflect the interrelation between users is insufficient, since most of visualization methods represent the user relationship using information of interaction between nodes on networks. In order to resolve above problem, this paper proposes a new visualization method to visualize user based hierarchy that uses internal relationship of users by fuzzy relational product and external access information of network.

  • Radiographic diagnosis of periapical lesions is based on many factors, including anatomical limitations such as thickness of the cortical bone; positioning of the apical abscess to the cortical bone; and is complicated by proximity to other anatomical structures and neighboring teeth. With conventional radiographs, these structures are often superimposed. Dental CBCT with its associated geometric accuracy offers accurate visualizations of the complex relationships and boundaries between teeth, related anatomical features, and their associated pathology. Its images also provide us internal tooth morphology, periodontal ligament space, the presence or absence of periapicl lesions in association wi th critical anatomical structures and maxillary sinus involement. Using 3 D imaging makes it easier for clinicians to detect, diagnosis, and develop highly effective treatment plans. Now, 4 cases of periapical and periodontal pathosis with CBCT images are to be presented including periapical abscess, furcation involvement, periapical pathosis involving maxillary sinus, and osteomyelitis. CBCT analyze specific area of interest and provides the highly detailed anatomical information. It also facilitates earlier and more accurate diagnosis, and treatment planning decisions and more predictable outcome.

Toward Generic, Immersive, and Collaborative Solutions to the Data Interoperability Problem which Target End-Users

  • In this paper, we describe our vision of a "Just-in-time" initiative to solve the Data Interoperability Problem (a.k.a. INTEROP.) We provide an architectural overview of our initiative which draws upon existing technologies to develop an immersive and collaborative approach which aims at empowering data stakeholders (e.g., data producers and data consumers) with integrated tools to interact and collaborate with each other while directly manipulating visual representations of their data in an immersive environment (e.g., implemented via Second Life.) The semantics of these visual representations and the operations associated with the data are supported by ontologies defined using the Common Logic Framework (CL). Data operations gestured by the stakeholders, through their avatars, are translated to a variety of generated resources such as multi-language source code, visualizations, web pages, and web services. The generality of the approach is supported by a plug-in architecture which allows expert users to customize tasks such as data admission, data manipulation in the immersive world, and automatic generation of resources. This approach is designed with a mindset aimed at enabling stakeholders from diverse domains to exchange data and generate new knowledge.

  • Modeling and simulation is important for military training. People can feel perspective when stereoscope images are created using multi-channel visualizations. A submarine oscillates when the submarine is just below the surface of the sea, so that the reconnaissance becomes difficult. Also, the operator should read the information of the target within 6 seconds using the periscope. The operator must have experience. To solve these problems, stereoscopic multi-channel visualization has been tested. The iCAVE system of KAIST provides a large-scale screen, 7 PCs, and 14 projectors to create the stereoscope images. To simulate the motion of a submarine just below the ocean surface, a 4-DOF motion platform is used. The motion data is transmitted to the visual system and the motion platform through the UDP protocol. Variety of weather conditions are created using the Vega Prime software. The stereoscopic multi-channel visualization and the motion platform system created a realistic simulation system.

  • The comparison of metabolic pathway in different species is important in detecting a missing gene. There are many visualizations for metabolic pathway. However, Biologists need not only a simple path but also a visualization for comparison. K-Viz is a tool for visualization of metabolic pathway based on KEGG. To compare pathways in different species, K-Viz uses different color for path such as PathComp in KEGG and shows the table of path in pathway. K-Viz helps biologists to understand the comparison of metabolic pathways in different species.

  • Data visualization has become a useful tool to effectively communicate information and is widely used not only by experts but also at a general level. However, it is dangerous that it is as efficient as it is to transmit false information. All data visualizations have hidden intent with powerful messages by editor. Building a system that grasps these intentions helps to understand the thoughts of groups and individuals. Most of the existing research focuses on effective data visualization methods and methods of expression. The more various visualization methods, the more likely the data will be distorted. In this paper, we present an analysis of deceptive data visualization in a goal-oriented environment. Based on the vulnerability of human cognitive processing, we classify the attack types and identify what tricks occur in the context of data visualization. This study suggests the first step in studying the case of aggressive visualization and opens the way for further research.

Visualization of Passenger Flows of the Metropolitan Seoul Subway System (서울 수도권 지하철 교통망 승객 흐름의 시각화)

  • This study proposes visualization methods of the diurnal passenger flows on the Metropolitan Seoul Subway system (MSSs) and examines the passenger trip behaviors of major central business districts (CBDs). We mine the MSS passenger flow information from a single day T-card passenger trip transaction database. It is practically intractable to analyze such flows, involving huge, complex space-time data, by means of general statistical analysis. On the other hand, dynamic visualizations of the passenger flows make it possible to analyze intuitively and to grasp effectively characteristics of the passenger flows. We thus propose several methods to visualize the passenger flow information. In particular, we visualize dynamic passenger flows of each link on the subway network and analyze the time-space characteristics of passenger ridership for the three major CBDs. As the result, we can ascertain the strong association between CBD and subway line and clarify the distinction among three major CBDs in the diurnal patterns of subway passenger flow.

  • As a big data is being used in various industries, big data market is expanding from hardware to infrastructure software to service software. Especially it is expanding into a huge platform market that provides applications for holistic and intuitive visualizations such as big data meaning interpretation understandability, and analysis results. Demand for big data extraction and analysis using social media such as SNS is very active not only for companies but also for individuals. However despite such high demand for the collection and analysis of social media data for user trend analysis and marketing, there is a lack of research to address the difficulty of dynamic interlocking and the complexity of building and operating software platforms due to the heterogeneity of various social media service interfaces. In this paper, we propose a method for developing a framework to operate the process from collection to extraction and classification of social media data. The proposed framework solves the problem of heterogeneous social media data collection channels through adapter patterns, and improves the accuracy of social topic extraction and classification through semantic association-based extraction techniques and topic association-based classification techniques.

Evaluation of Information Representation Goodness-of-fit According to Protein Visualization Pattern (단백질 가시화 형태에 따른 정보표현적합도 평가)

  • The information about protein structure gives the clues for the function of protein. It is needed for the improvement for the efficacy and fast development of protein drugs. So, the studies visualizing the structure of protein effectively increase. Most studies of visualization focus on the structural prediction for protein or the improvement on the rendering speed. However, studies of information delivery depending on the form of protein visualization are very limited. The major objective of this study is to analyze the information representation goodness-of-fit for the patterns of the hybrid visualization with primary and secondary structures of protein. Those hybrid visualizations included the patterns which updated current representative visualization services, Chimera, PDB and Cn3D. Information factor to analyze information representation goodness-of-fit is assorted by protein primary structure, secondary protein structure, the location of amino acid and ratio information about protein secondary structure, based on the result of subject-analysis. Subject is the group of experts who are involved in protein drug development over 5 years. The result of this study shows the meaningful difference in the information representation goodness-of-fit by the patterns of hybrid visualization and proves the difference in the information by the pattern of visualization.
