Cooperative query answering is a research effort to develop a fault-tolerant and intelligent database system using the semantic knowledge base constructed from the underlying database. Such knowledge base has two aspects of usage. One is supporting the cooperative query answering process for providing both an exact answer and neighborhood information relevant to a query. The other is supporting ongoing maintenance of the knowledge base for accommodating the changes in the knowledge content and database usage purpose. Existing studies have mostly focused on the cooperative query answering process but paid little attention to the dynamic knowledge base maintenance. This paper proposes a multi-level knowledge representation framework called Knowledge Abstraction Hierarchy(KAH) that can not only support cooperative query answering but also permit dynamic knowledge maintenance, On the basis of the KAH, a knowledge abstraction database is constructed on the relational data model and accommodates diverse knowledge maintenance needs and flexibly facilitates cooperative query answering. In terms of the knowledge maintenance, database operations are discussed for the cases where either the internal contents for a given KAH change or the structures of the KAH itself change. In terms of cooperative query answering, four types of vague queries are discussed, including approximate selection, approximate join, conceptual selection, and conceptual join. A prototype system has been implemented at KAIST and is being tested with a personnel database system to demonstrate the usefulness and practicality of the knowledge abstraction database in ordinary database application systems.

So far we have investigate and analyzed the actual conditions of building maintenance in Korea and compared the building maintenance laws and systems between Korea and other countries. Now, based on the results from such comparison and analysis, this study proposes the following ideas for improvement: 1) As we can learn from domestic and foreign case studies, in the existing built-up areas becoming obsolete, many building owners remodel their buildings illegally in reaction to current economic and social changes. Therefore, for efficient maintenance of buildings, it is required to improve building maintenance systems by formulating information about inspection items, inspectors, supervisors, inspection costs and intervals of reporting results, depending on how large the buildings are and what they are used for. 2) In addition, to ensure the success of a building maintenance system, it is necessary to keep and manage a history of building maintenance thoroughly and introduce a certification program which gives an appropriate grade to maintenance performance and commits the government to expand their public roles and supporting policies, as widely used in some foreign countries. Further, in keep the building maintenance system secure, there should be a nationwide consensus as well as a favorable evaluation from building owners and manager, and all related people.
Digitalization of not only non-safety but also safety-grade I &C systems with full computerized Main Control Room (MCR) is the recent trend of I&C systems of nuclear power plants (NPP) around the world, while plant maintenance has been shifting from traditional time based maintenance to condition based maintenance. In order to cope with the new trend of operation and maintenance in NPP, a concept of online distributed diagnostic system for both plant operation and maintenance has been proposed in order to further improve both the plant efficiency and the work environment of plant operation staff members by organizational learning. In this respect, the research subjects of human machine interface (HMI) for the online distributed diagnostic system are also discussed for supporting the plant personnel at both MCR and local working places in the plant by the application of advanced ICT (Information and Communication Technologies).
Cluster systems have been widely used for solving problems in various application domains, and regarded as useful high performance computing resources. As the number of cluster system user is increasing, it is no less important to maintain stable operation than to improve cluster system performance. Although hardware preventive maintenance is important for keeping normal operation, the testing tool which can be used for general cluster systems during maintenance has received little attention. In this Paper, considering hardware Preventive maintenance, we suggest a testing tool for hardware of cluster system. The cluster system testing tool which is named CTS(Cluster system Test Suite) has two check routines; one for memory, and the other for NIC respectively. The CTS is designed to support the common features of general cluster systems and all the Jobs such as setting test conditions to querying the results can be done entirely within an integrated GUI environment. CTS is used as the testing tool for two kinds of cluster systems during maintenance, and the experimental results show that CTS reports useful information for cluster systems management.
Purpose: This paper treats the improvement of the quality and reliability of military weapon systems based on the maintenance data. Methods: The proposed method of the data integration and refinement are used to obtain the component reliability information and to find the frequently failed components based on the Pareto analysis. Based on the reliability information and the number of failed component frequencies, the target components of quality improvement are determined and improved by multiple methods such as engineering changes, special meetings, additional training and revising maintenance manuals. Results: Based on the proposed process, we find some components which need to be improved in order to enhance the quality and reliability. Conclusion: A process is developed for improving the quality and reliability of weapon systems. This process will be adopted by various weapon systems to enhance the quality and reliability, as well as reduce military spending.
This paper proposes a maintenance method to integrate worker's safety concerns into the process activities of the manufacturing system and it is to be considered as a part of the scope of maintenance engineering. The proposed method incorporates worker's health and safety considerations into maintenance engineering in each of the manufacturing process using reliability analysis. It can help to make a better planning and implementation of maintenance activities for the manufacturing system.

Warranty cost analysis for one-dimensional warranties assumes that the usage intensity (or rate) is the same for all buyers. In real life the usage intensity varies across the population of buyers. Also for products sold with warranty, preventive maintenance actions by manufacturers and buyers have a significant impact on the total costs for both parties. In this paper we deals with models to study the expected warranty cost for products with free repairable warranty with varying usage intensity and three types of preventive maintenance. We also review the literature which links warranty and maintenance and develops a framework to define new topics for research in the future and examines a new model formulation. It then develops a new model and carries out its analysis.

The maintenance management in buildings has got more important by the increasing complexity of building sizes and use. Nowadays an expectation and a possibility of BIM technology become accepted as a new construction management method, therefore many studies and legal systems of it are being suggested actively. Although orders for BIM projects are supposed to be increasing, at present the BIM information accumulated from planning and design still doesn't have its continuity at the maintenance step after completion of construction in terms of LCC. It can't use the possibility that BIM originally has, and also causes some confusion in communication. This study analyzes and classifies required information in terms of BIM in the range of estimating repair costs of apartment buildings, as an example of a way to use BIM information at the maintenance step.
More views in data warehouse, can respond to the users more rapidly because the user's requests might be processed by accessing only the materialized views with higher probabilities rather than accessing base relations. But, the update duration for maintaining materialized views limits the number of materialized views in data warehouse. In this paper, we propose the algorithm for reducing update duration of materialized views, of which aggregation functions are maintained by self-maintenance. We also implement the proposed algorithm and evaluate the performance of the algorithm.

To suggest the field maintenance plan considering the geographical characteristics of the region, we selected representative regions(plain regione and mountain region) and compared spatial distribution of cultivated land in Muan-gun and Hwasun-gun. Firstly, we examined the distribution characteristics of cultivated land according to the scope of the maintenance object with Fragstats. As a result of that, it was found that the cultivated area except rice paddy had the highest aggregation effect. And then, we developed type classification of maintenance considering geographic characteristics and cultivated crops information. As a result of classification, plain land type Muan region was mostly cultivated land suitable for integrated maintenance. On the other hand, Hwasun, a mountainous terrain, needs small-scale maintenance and road maintenance. Based on these results, it was found that more detailed planning is needed for the upland field infrastructure improvement considering the topographic characteristics.
