  • The purpose of this study is to advanced and develop a core competency diagnosis tool that junior college students must have in order to implement competency-oriented education to nurture talents required by the future society, and to verify its validity and reliability. To this end, the existing diagnostic tools were analyzed and preliminary questions were derived through analysis of prior research, collecting opinions of members, FGI, and expert advice. A total of 46 items were derived, which were verified as content validity. Afterwards, a preliminary survey was conducted targeting 380 applicants among current students. To verify the validity of the construct, an exploratory factor analysis was performed using AMOS 18.0. As a result, 30 final questions composed of 6 core competencies were derived. The core competency diagnosis tool is expected to be actively used as a future-oriented competency education execution, evaluation, and quality management tool by diagnosing the competencies of current students.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop an instrument for measuring nursing information literacy competency, and then to examine the validity and reliability of the instrument. Methods: The developmental process of the instrument includes construction of a conceptual framework, generation of initial items, verification of content validity, preliminary study, extraction of final items, and psychometric testing. Its content validity was verified by three experts from nursing and nursing informatics. Its construct, convergent, and discriminant validity was examined in confirmatory factor analysis. Finally, its criterion validity was measured with Pearson's correlation. The tool's reliability was examined by Cronbach's ${\alpha}$. The participants include 382 nurses from four hospitals and one university hospital. Results: Twenty seven items in total were selected for the final scale, and the results of the confirmatory factor analysis were supported with acceptable model fit, which were named competency for identifying problem, potential sources for information, searching fine information, evaluating information, acquising and managing of information, using information ethically, and integrating new information. The convergent, discriminant and criterion validities were also supported. The Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ coefficient was .93. Conclusion: The instrument is valid and reliable to comprehensively assess nurses' information literacy competency, and to provide a basic direction for developing nursing information literacy program.

  • This study was designed to determine the effects of the Havruta teaching method using flipped learning on the communication competency, academic achievement, and academic self-efficacy of nursing students. The subjects of the study were nursing students, with a total of 134 participants: 68 in the experimental group and 66 in the control group. The collected data were analyzed with SPSS 21.0 program. As a result of the study, the experimental group had better communication competency(t=2.160, p=..048) and academic self-efficacy(t=1.578, p=.042) than the control group. There was no significant difference in academic achievement (t=1.240, p=.515). In conclusion, teaching-learning methods should be developed and applied to develop the capabilities of nursing students.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of the film 'The Island' on 2nd year nursing students' nursing informatics (NI) competency. The participants were sixty-eight students in a baccalaureate nursing program of a private university, taking the course, 'Nursing & Informatics' in the 2012 fall semester. Over the 15 weeks, the film was used for five weeks as introduction to NI, peer-to-group discussions, and self-reflection on lessons learned regarding NI. A qualitative content analysis was used to explore the students' experiences and perceptions on their NI competency. As a result, students signified the NI concept as the assessment of biometrics data, promotion of optimal health with the support of various technologies, and integration of patient-centered care into routine practice. They also highlighted the importance of security and safety measures as well as high quality health technology including the ubiquitous health monitoring system. Overall, the lesson outcomes of the course were met. As a supportive, instructional strategy, the use of the movie, 'The Island', was effective for nursing students in achieving NI competencies. Further study is warranted to determine if movies can be used as a means of continuing education to improve informatics competences in healthcare professionals.

  • This study was conducted to identify factors that affect nursing students' cultural competency and to contribute to the development of a cultural competency strengthening program. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and multiple regression with SPSS/WIN 19.0 from 470 subjects. There was a significant positive correlation between cultural competence and self-efficacy(r=.230, p=.000). The significant factors influencing cultural competence of nursing students were multicultural experience through mass media, self-efficacy, fluentness of foreign language. This study suggest that It need to develop multicultural education using strategy improving self-efficacy for nursing students.

  • This study analyzed the perception of equality of opportunity among young people in Korean society using data from the 1st, 2nd, and 4th supplementary surveys of the Korea Education and Employment Panel II (KEEP II). The direction of analysis is to explore whether family background and academic activities (career maturity, academic achievement) during high school, economic situation, social relationships, and level of personal competency during adolescence are linked to the perception of equal opportunity. The analysis method established a structural equation model with the perception of equality of opportunity as the final dependent variable and confirmed the causal relationship using the LISREL program. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that the factors affecting young people's perception of equality of opportunity are the economic situation at the time of youth and the level of personal competency. The results of the study confirm the awareness of equality of opportunity among young people entering Korean society, and are expected to be used as information needed to create a social foundation so that they can play a responsible role as members of society.

  • The 2015 revised curriculum includes 'informatics' course including the process of building software aiming at cultivating creative and convergent ability. This study analyzes the competencies pursued in the revised curriculum and defines computational thinking as the main competency. The subjects of the study were the first grade of a middle school in the first semester of the 2018 school year. Of the 95 collected data, 83 data were used for analysis and the significance was confirmed by the paired t-test. Also, computational concept, computational practice and computational perspectives were confirmed through artifact-based interviews. As a result of statistical analysis, critical thinking, creativity, algorithmic thinking, and problem-solving significantly increased among sub-variables of computational thinking. Statistical results and interview results were analyzed to provide implications for design and implementation of software education in 'informatics' course.

  • This study tried to analyze the hours for computer science education in private elementary schools located in Seoul, in order to find out how many lesson hours are required. According to online discussion participation in the 2022 revised curriculum survey results, it was found that students and parents wanted computer science education to be strengthened. Information education in public elementary schools consists of a separate unit in the practical subject based on the 2015 revised curriculum and is to be implemented for more than 17 hours. As a result of surveying the average hours of computer science education based on school reminder of 28 private elementary schools in Seoul, it was found that about 152 hours of information education were being operated for 6 years. This is about 9 times the gap in education hours compared to public elementary schools. Artificial intelligence is emerging as important, so the lesson hours of information education must be secured to strengthen students' future competency in morden society. Therefore, informatics curriculum should be independent as a subject and secure the number of hours in the elementary school level.
