Content Analysis on Twitter for Identifying Scholarly Activities and Public Use in Informal Communication: With a Focus on Domestic Scholars in Social Sciences (트위터 데이터를 이용한 연구자들의 비공식 커뮤니케이션 활동 및 대중이용 내용분석: 국내 사회과학 분야 연구자들을 중심으로)

  • This study aims to identify and categorize the content and public use patterns of social scientists' informal communication activities. Using Twitter data, we identified Korean 736 social scientists who participated in communication activities with the public, and analyzed 4,548 tweets that revealed their informal communication activities. This study is meaningful in that it explored informal communication between social scientists and the public, which was not previously revealed in scholarly communication, and identified the types of informal communication activities, communication media, and collaborative sectors in detail.

Effects of Informal Communication and Mindfulness Practice on the Non-Class-Related Behavior in the Team-Based Learning using Smartwork Tool: Focusing on Mediating Effects of Perceived Self-Efficacy (스마트워크 도구를 이용한 팀 기반 학습에서 비공식적 커뮤니케이션과 마음챙김 실천이 수업외적인 행동에 미치는 영향: 자기효능감 지각의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating effect of perceived self-efficacy in the effects of informal communication and mindfulness practice on non-class-related behavior in the Team-Based Learning(TBL) using smartwork tool. To do this, total of 80, college students participated in this survey. The results of this empirical study is summarized as followings. First, informal communication do not have a direct effect on non-class-related behavior but perceived self-efficacy mediates the effect of informal communication. Second, mindfulness practice do not have a direct effect on non-class-related behavior but perceived self-efficacy mediates the effect of mindfulness practice. Third, informal communication and mindfulness practice have positive effect on perceived self-efficacy. In this study, we suggested the importance of perceived self-efficacy in establishing the TBL policy using smartwork tool.

Relationship among Communication Competence, Communication Types, and Organizational Commitment in Hospital Nurses (병원 간호사의 의사소통 능력, 의사소통 유형, 조직몰입간의 관계)

  • Purpose: This study was done to explore the relationship in hospital nurses' of communication competence, communication types, and organizational commitment and to provide basic data for developing programs to improve internal communication and to promote nurses' commitment to their organizations. Methods: The participants included 316 nurses who worked in two general hospitals. The tools used for this study were the Global Interpersonal Communication Competence Scale (GICC) and Communication Satisfaction Questionnaire by Downs & Hazen (1981), revised by Seo (2002) and Mowday's tool (1979) for organizational commitment. Data were analyzed using SPSS/PC+12.0. Results: The mean score for communication competence was 3.46, and for organizational commitment, 3.19. For communication types, the mean score for formal communication was 3.18 and informal communication, 2.59. Communication competence had a positive relationship with formal communication (r=.32) and with informal communication (r=.16). Organizational commitment had a positive relationship with formal communication (r=.53), communication competence (r=.30), and informal communication (r=.27). Conclusion: The results indicate the necessity of developing programs to promote nurses' communication competence and also developing a system that will enrich active communication. Systematic and continuous training in communication is also highly recommended.

  • This study is to comparate on impact factors and moderator of incentives of knowledge transfer between Nonprofit and Profit organization. In nonprofit organization, the results founded that individual information capability, quality of knowledge, and quality of construct were statistically significant in knowledge acquisition, informal communication and quality of construct were statistically significant knowledge sharing, and individual information capability, informal communication, quality of knowledge and quality of construct were statistically significant knowledge use. Also interactive effect of knowledge sharing and Psychological Physical incentive was statistically significant knowledge use. In profit organization, the results founded that individual information capability, informal communication, quality of knowledge, and quality of construct were statistically significant in knowledge acquisition, quality of knowledge and quality of construct were statistically significant knowledge sharing, and individual information capability, informal communication, and formal communication were statistically significant knowledge use. Also interactive effect of knowledge acquisition and Psychological Physical incentive was statistically significant knowledge use.

Water-Cooler Effect in Informal Communication at Work : Focusing on Kakao Talk of Smart-Phone User (업무 중 비공식적 커뮤니케이션의 워터쿨러 효과 : 스마트폰 사용자의 카카오톡을 중심으로)

  • This research is to investigate the impact of informal communication of smart-phone user while at work on performance. To do this, we proposed the research model including informal offline communication represented by tea time and informal online communication typified by Kakao talk derived from water-cooler effect. The results of this empirical study is summarized as followings. First, Kakao talk with insiders has a positive effect on performance only in male group, and Kakao talk with outsiders has a negative effect on performance in both male and female group. Secondly, tea time has a positive effect on performance in group with high task interdependence, whereas Kakao talk with insiders has a positive effect on performance in group with low task interdependence. The findings have significant implications for policy development to regulate the wise smart-phone use in organization.
