Purpose: This study was conducted to identify factors influencing fundus examination to prevent diabetic retinopathy in diabetes patients to provide basic data to improve screening rates of fundus examinations. Methods: Raw data from the 6th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, which is a cross-sectional and nationally representative survey, were used in this study. The subjects of the study were 1,029 adult diabetes patients over the age of 19 years who had been diagnosed with diabetes. The demographic characteristics, diabetes and disease-related characteristics and health behavior characteristics according to the fundus examinations were analyzed by the chi-squared test and logistic regression analyses were used to examine the factors influencing fundus examination. Results: A total of 333 patients underwent fundus examination at a screening rate of 32.2%. We identified factors influencing fundus examination in patients with diabetes as level of education, type of diabetes care, period of diabetes, and smoking. Conclusion: A multiple approach is required to raise the low screening rate of fundus examination, including specialized education for low-education groups. Moreover, nursing intervention should focus on subjects who do not engage in insulin and oral hypoglycemic agents and with diabetes for a long period.

Purpose: This study was carried out to investigate the prevalence and the main factors influencing the farmer's Syndrome in farmers in Korea. Method: A survey questionnaire was completed by 238 farmers who lived in 8 agricultural districts in Seosan City. The data were collected from April 10 to May 5, 2002. Results: The prevalence of the farmer's Syndrome was 42.6%, and its prevalence rate in woman was higher than that in man. The prevalence of the farmers syndrome proportionally increased with advanced age. Variables that were positively correlated with the farmer's syndrome were age, duration of farming, days of resting, and the number of the agricultural chemical's poisoning. On the other hand, variables that were negatively correlated with the farmers syndrome were smoking, sleeping hours, economic condition, and level of educational. In a regression analysis, the factors influencing the farmers syndrome were age, sex, sleeping hours, days of resting, and the number of the agricultural chemical's poisoning, which accounted for 25% of the total variance. Conclusion: Based on these study results, older age and woman gender are the remarkable risk factors influencing the farmer's syndrome. Sleeping hours, days of resting, and the number of the agricultural chemical's poisoning were also the significant attributable variables to the farmers syndrome.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the relationships among parent-child communication, self-esteem and sexual assertiveness for male and female university students. Methods: This descriptive study used a comparative survey design that utilized self-report questionnaires. A total of 470 participants were male and female university students in B metropolitan city. Results: The degree of open communication use was higher for female students in comparison to male students, There were no differences in dysfunctional communication for both the father-child communication. There were no differences between males and females for the mother-child communication either. The degree of self-esteem was higher for male students in comparison to the female students. The degree of sexual assertiveness was higher for female students in comparison to the male students. The grade, religion, major, allowance source, marital status of parents, and relationship experience with opposite sex were influencing factors for the male students' sexual assertiveness whereas the individual's major and physical contact were influencing factors for the female students. Conclusion: Self-esteem and mother-child open communication were influencing factors of sexual assertiveness. Thus, the nursing intervention based on the influencing factors is needed in order for male and female students to express sexual assertiveness.
Purpose: This study was conducted to identify the problem of bone health and potential influencing factors of bone mineral density (BMD) for women across the life cycle of menopause. Methods: Complex sampling design data analysis was performed on the fifth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2010 in order to identify the problems with bone health, BMD and its influencing factors in 3,499 women who answered the menopausal status. Women's life cycle was categorized by premenopausal, postmenopausal, and elderly. Results: 35.1% of premenopausal women, 73.3% of postmenopausal women, and 96.0% of elderly women had problems with bone health that were related to low BMD. Influencing factors of BMD were residential area, alcohol drinking, and body mass index (BMI) for premenopausal women; age, residential area, education, marital status, income, and BMI for postmenopausal women; and age, education, and BMI for elderly women. Conclusion: Problems with bone health required to be considered as a major health problem in all women regardless their life cycle. Interventions to maximize BMD need to be developed by considering its influencingfactors across the women's life cycle.
A probabilistic analysis model. one of reliability analysis methods introducing the concept of variables, was developed to investigate the uncertainty of dominant factors influencing the degree of consolidation in the radial consolidation theories. Based on the developed probabilistic analysis model, sensitivity study of those factors was performed to find their trends of affecting the degree of consolidation in the vertical drain method. Various radial consolidation theories, proposed by Barron(1948), Hansbo(1979), Yoshikuni(1979) and Onoue(1988), were used for this parametric study with the influencing factors such as size of smear zone, reduction ratio of permeability in the smear zone, discharge capacity, permeability for horizontal flow and coefficient of consolidation for horizontal flow. As results of this sensitivity study, for the given consolidation theory, contribution of each factor to the degree of consolidation was figure out and compared to each other. For the given value of each factor, the sensitivity to the degree of consolidation in the various theories was evaluated and their applicability and limitations were assessed.
Purpose: This study was conducted to identify the factors influencing organizational commitment and resilience onpresenteeism in clinical nurses. The data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed by t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: Work impairment was negatively correlated with organizational commitment and resilience. Perceived productivity was positively correlated with organizational commitment and resilience. Influencing factors on work impairment were organizational commitment (β=-.22 p=.005) and hardiness (β=-.16, p=.042), with 10% explanatory power. Influencing factors on perceived productivity were organizational commitment (β=.24, p=.002) and hardiness (β=.16, p=.042), with 11% explanatory power. Conclusion: Based on this research, appropriate programs and policies that consider influencing factors such as organizational commitment and hardiness in resilience are needed to reduce the level of presenteeism in clinical nurses.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the factors influencing symptom experience in patients with liver cirrhosis(LC). Method: A descriptive correlational study design was used. A convenience sample of 129 subjects was recruited from the gastroenterology department at two university hospitals in Seoul, Korea. Symptom experience in LC was measured with the instrument developed by the researcher based on Theory of Unpleasant Symptoms(Lenz et al, 1995) and the Child-Pugh Score, the Korean version of Profile of Mood States, and the Family Support Questionnaire were used to identify the factors influencing symptom experience. Results: The mean score of symptom experience was relatively low(M=41.67, SD= 24.71). Among individual symptoms, fatigue had the highest score in all dimensions. Fatigue, abdominal distension and/or peripheral edema, muscle cramps, dry mouth, and change in appearance were explored as symptoms needing management. In the regression analysis, symptom experience was found to be influenced significantly by anxiety/depression($R^2=.418$, p=.000) and the severity of LC(Child-Pugh Score)($R^2=.125$, p=.000). These variables explained 54.3% of the variance in symptom experience(F=63.607. p=.000). Conclusion: It suggests that nurses need to take into consideration psychological factor as well as physiological factor in symptom management for patients with LC.
