The purpose of salinity intrusion due to numerical simulation is analaysis for saline intrusion to the upstream channel in Nakdong River Estuary Barrage(NREB) to get enough fresh water. Conditions that occur salinity intrusion affect by tidal distribution at seas, so salinity concentration changes according to tidal phenomenon. Making this connection cleary can help preventing salinity intrusion. In this study, estimating salinity intrusion to the upstream channel in NREB using EOMSED model, we reexamine NREB's existence. Comparison is also made with observing data. In result, when inflow discharges at $75m^3/s$ is more similar with respect to observing data than $130m^3/s$ at ECOMSED model. Thus, estimations are more precise at little discharges than lots of discharges.

After installing calibrated depth scale at 11 different points inside the nine streams network for estimating time of concentration of stream in Young-Heung island near coastal region of Incheon we estimated the flow against actual rainfall events. By considering time of concentration formula which here mainly used for estimating the time of concentration from practical experiments, compared were three methods of inflow time and accepted to method of used the chart. The maximum flow occurrence time was estimated by an outflow model and observed maximum flow occurrence time were determined by to a comparative analysis. Kirpich formula was selected as the proper formula for calculating the concentration time inside the island streams. Kirpich formula could be applicable for the expanded range while catchment area of $0.453km^2$ and channel bed slope of $3{\sim}5%$ to catchment area of $2.0km^2$ and channel bed slope of about 1.5%.

A stream purification system was applied to the upper reaches of the Masan Reservoir to improve the water quality. This system consisted of two channels which were constructed on both sides of the stream, one side packed with crushed gravels and the other with plastic filter media. The system operated under low pollutant concentrations and high hydraulic loadings during a dry season to avoid clogging of the filter media. Removal rate and efficiency of chemical oxygen demand (COD) in the channel packed with crushed gravel were $14.8g/m^3/d$ and 11.5%, and for the channel with plastic filter media, $50.1g/m^3/d$ and 13.5%, respectively. Removal efficiencies of total phosphorus (T-P) were 6.6% (gravel) and 10.0% (plastic media). These results indicated plastic filter media having relatively high specific surface areas were more efficient than crushed gravels in removing pollutants. However, due to low influent water quality during dry season, the removal efficiencies were low. The proportion of nitrate nitrogen to total nitrogen (T-N) of the inflow was high but, as the system operated under aerobic condition, nitrate nitrogen could not denitrified. Accordingly, total nitrogen was not attenuated with this system. To improve the reservoir water quality effectively, this system should be able to treat the storm runoff containing higher pollutant loadings. When the filter materials are clogged by the storm runoff instead of backwashing, it would be more efficient to replace them, Therefore, the use of natural materials which are light, easily obtaining and replaceable, and have high specific surface areas is recommended.
The confluence section of rivers forms complex flow pattern due to inflow discharge variation at the mainstream and tributary. Due to complex flow characteristics, bed change and bank erosion at the local section produce lateral geomorphology changes in rivers. In this study, bankline change by bank erosion and bed change were simulated using CCHE2D of 2-dimensional numerical model for quantitative analysis of lateral changes in the confluence section of South Han River and Geumdang Stream. As a result, bankline at the left-side channel of the mainstream was largely changed in the downstream section of the confluence compared to the upstream section. Also, bank erosion in the tributary was hardly occurred and bankline at the left-side tributary and right-side main stream moved to riverside land due to decreased velocity and deposition.
General features of sediment budget for the Nakdong River before the Four Rivers Restoration Project were analyzed using surveying, dredging, and mining data for the past 20 years, as well as sediment data measured from the tributaries, and numerical modeling, etc. As a result of the sediment budget analysis of the Nakdong River before the Four Rivers Restoration Project, sediment inflow supplied from the watershed is $2,100,000m^3/yr$ and sediment outflow including mining and dredging volumes is $10,180,000m^3/yr$. Therefore, the bed change volume estimated by the sediment budget analysis is $-8,080,000m^3/yr$ of the bed erosion volume which is similar to the analysis result ($-8,300,000m^3/yr$) of natural and artificial bed changes using the surveyed data.

The variation of flow pattern caused by the topographical change of Kwangyang bay, is analyzed using the numerical tidal model for the depth-integrated two- dimensional long wave equation. The results of study are as follows. Due to pier construction, the area of water surface is deceased and the water inflow into the Kwangyang bay is reduced. For this result, at the outer bay of Myo island, the tidal range is slightly increased. And at the inner bay, water level is dropped generally, and especially at the time of low water tide, the phenomena of water level drop obviously appears. According to the variation pattern, flow velocities is lower than those of non-construction condition over the Kwangyang bay. But at the channel(from Kwangyang east stream) flowing into the east Kwangyang bay, for the contraction of channel profile, flow velocity is increased. The study based on the 100 year frequency design flood discharge from Sueocheon(river) and Dongcheon(river) which are flowing into the bay and Seomjin River flowing along the boundary of the bay is also performed. During the spring tide condition, the results showed the rise of water level about 1.2 m at Seomjin River Estuary and 0.3 m at inner bay is occurred.
The objectives of this study are to develop a state-space form of stochastic dynamic storage function routing model and to test the model performance for real-time flow forecast. The selected study area is the main Han River starting from Paldang Dam site to Indogyo station and the 13 flood events occurred from 1987 to 1998 are selected for computing model parameters and testing the model performance. It was shown that the optimal model parameters are quite different depending on Hood events, but the values used on field work also give reasonable results in this study area. It is also obvious that the model performance from the stochastic-dynamic model developed in this study gives more accurate and reliable results than that from the existing deterministic model. Analysis for allowable forecast lead time leads that under the current time step the reasonable predicted downstream flows in 5 hours time advance are obtained from the stochastic dynamic model on relatively less lateral inflow event in the study area.

The purpose of this study is to give the data neccesary for improving the planning of drainage structures, specially inverted siphons, in irrigation channels. With the samples of 15 drainage inlets, one drainage flume, 16 drainage inverted siphons and 6 drainage culverts in the 3 lines of irrigation channel under Chong-Won Irrigation Association, author abtained the following results. 1. It is presumed that design drainage discharge should be determined with some additional reserves, on the basis of the maximum rainfall intensity in local area and the size of drainage area on the topographical map, avoiding the way of eye measure. 2. Location of drainage inlet should be kept away from the place where topography can make lots of wash load, but when unavoidably allowing the inflow into irrigation channel, wash load outlet with even the purpose of drainage, or drainage flume in stead of drainage inlet should be taken account of. 3. It is presumed that drainage flume may be the structure which can perform its function from a structural point of view as far as topography permits. 4. Drainage inverted siphon should be avoided at any place as much as possible; a) In case that location of the siphon would be permitted only at paddy field, drainage area hauing the amount of discharge which requires more than 90cm in diameter could only be allowed. b) In this case, crest elevation of the tank of both inlet and outlet, at least, should not be lower than the surface level of paddy field. c) As far as topography and stratum permit, ratio of depth of outlet tank to head drop should be decreased as much as possible so that discharging efficiency of wash load could increase. d) In case of avoiding the setting of the siphon, irrigation aqueduct, irrigation inverted siphon, or drainage flume should be recommended in accordance with topography. 5. Discharging capability of wash load by drainage culvert appeared to depend hardly upon the diameter of the culvert, but greatly upon the location, specially near village, for there stones and dirts dumped may considerably be piled up. So, a counter plan for that is required.
Two-dimensional tidal and tidal residual currents in Chinhae Bay are investigated by field observations, hydraulic and numerical experiments. The results of hydraulic and numerical model experiments roughly coincide with the field measurements. Maximum tidal currents during the spring and neap tides in Kaduk and Kyunnaeryang channel and the central channel of Chinhae Bay are strong as 90 to 110 and 30 to 40 cm/s respectively, and strong tidal residual currents having numerous eddies take place. Maximum tidal currents during the spring and neap tides in the western and northern parts of the bay are weak as below 30 and 10 cm/s respectively, and also tidal residual currents are relatively weak. Tidal residual currents in the northern part of Kajo-do go toward the north, whereas the currents in the southern part move down the bay, and the currents rotating clockwise occur around Bu-do. The surface currents in the bay depend strongly on the wind and river inflow, and such phenomena are more remarkable during he neap tide than the spring tide.
The objective of this study is to develop a prediction mode for a flood forecasting system in the downstream of the Nakdong river basin. Ranging from the gauging station at Jindong to the Nakdong estuary barrage, the hydraulic flood routing model(DWOPER) based on the Saint Venant equation was calibrated by comparing the calculated river stage with the observed river stages using four different flood events recorded. The upstream boundary condition was specified by the measured river stage data at Jindong station and the downstream boundary condition was given according to the tide level data observed at he Nakdong estuary barrage. The lateral inflow from tributaries were estimated by the rainfall-runoff model. In the calibration process, the optimum roughness coefficients for proper functions of channel reach and discharge were determined by minimizing the sum of the differences between the observed and the computed stage. In addition, the forecasting lead time on the basis of each gauging station was determined by a numerical simulation technique. Also, we suggested a model structure for a real-time flood forecasting system and tested it on the basis of past flood events. The testing results of the developed system showed close agreement between the forecasted and observed stages. Therefore, it is expected that the flood forecasting system we developed can improve the accuracy of flood forecasting on the Nakdong river.
