  • The nonlinear dynamic behaviors of guardrail established on the local or high way have been investigated using BARRIER Ⅶ program with respect to four design variables such as section type of beams and posts, impact angle, impact velocity and vehicle weight. Computer simulation programs are sophisticated analytical models for analyzing dynamic vehicle/barrier interactions and provide a relatively inexpensive alternative to full scale crash testing. This study has been focused on the structural adequacy, occupant risk, and vehicle trajectory. For this purpose, the maximum deflection and impact force have been calculated to design the clear zone and to analyze effect of impact attenuation. Also, the acceleration of vehicle and exit angle after collision have been computed to estimate the occupant risk. From this study, it is suggested that we should strengthen the design criteria of guradrail to prevent from disastrous traffic accidents.

  • When one speaks of a concrete ship, most people have an impression of heavy solid rough edged masses of concrete very unlike anything floatable. In the form represented by what is called "MRC", concrete does, however, become light, homogeneous, elastic, resilient, and above all strong still retaining the basic benefit of inexpensive well known concrete properties. The fundamental principal behind this material as a new shipbuilding material is based on the development of "ferro-cement" in the early 1940s by an Italian Engineer Pierre Luigi-Nervi. The "MRC" or Mesh Reinforced Cement has been studied by Korea institute of Science and Technology in connection with a research project "The Small Ship Construction Utilizing Domestic Materials And Its Economic Analysis," of which reports have been issued previously. In this exporsition, some of the basic qualities of "MRC" are discussed in general terms.

  • Among the techniques to protect private information by adopting biometrics, speaker verification is expected to be widely used due to advantages in convenient usage and inexpensive implementation cost Speaker verification should achieve a high degree of the reliability in the verification nout the flexibility in speech text usage, and the efficiency in verification system complexity. Continuants have excellent speaker-discriminant power and the modest number of phonemes in the category, and multilayer perceptrons (MLPs) have superior recognition ability and fast operation speed. In consequence, the two provide viable ways for speaker verification system to obtain the above properties. This paper implements a system to which continuants and MLPs are applied, and evaluates the system using a Korean speech database. The results of the experiment prove that continuants and MLPs enable the system to acquire the three properties.

  • Iron hydroxides are good adsorbents for uncomplexed metals, some metal-ligand complexes and many metal oxyanions. However, their adsorption properties of these precipitations are not fully exploited in wastewater treatment operations because of difficulties associated with their separation from the aqueous phase. This study describes experiments in which iron hydroxides were coated onto the surface of ordinary adsorbents(Sea sand) that are very resistant to acids, The coated adsorbents were used in adsorption of oxyanionic metals. The process was successful in removing some anions such as $SeO_3(-II)$ over a wide range of metal concentrations and sorption of oxyanionic metals increased with decreasing pH. Formation of two surface complexes for oxyanionic metals adsorption on iron hydroxides comprise (1) complexation of the free anion by a positively charged surface site, and (2) protonation of the adsorbed anion (or alternatively adsorption of a protonated form from solution) The coated adsorbents are inexpensive to prepare and could serve as the basis of a useful oxyanionic metal removal.

  • Endosseous implants have been used to provide anchorage control in orthodontic treatment without the need for special patient cooperation. However these implants have limitation like space requirement, cost, equipments. Recently titanium micro-implant for orthodontic anchorage was introduced. Micro-implants are small enough to place in any area of the alveolar bone, easy to implant and remove, and inexpensive. In addition, orthodontic force application can begin almost immediately after implantation. The mandibular first, maxillary first, mandibula second, and maxillary second molars were the four most commonly missing teeth in adult sample. In case of posterior molar teeth missing, deflective contacts in any position, over time, has produced pathologic change of occlusal scheme because of extrusion of opposing teeth. This case had interocclusal space deficiency by mandibular right molars missing over time. The micro-implants had been used for intrusion of maxillary right molars for interocclusal space. The micro-implant would be absolute anchorage for orthodontic movement. Therefore, the micro-implant would be effective method for correction of occlusal plane.

  • Weighted least squares (WLS) estimation is often easily used for the data with heteroscedastic errors because it is intuitive and computationally inexpensive. However, WLS estimator is less robust to a few outliers and sometimes it may be inefficient. In order to overcome robustness problems, Box-Cox transformation, Huber's M estimation, bisquare estimation, and Yohai's MM estimation have been proposed. Also, more efficient estimations than WLS have been suggested such as Bayesian methods (Cepeda and Achcar, 2009) and semiparametric methods (Kim and Ma, 2012) in heteroscedastic error models. Recently, Çelik (2015) proposed the weight methods applicable to the heteroscedasticity patterns including butterfly-distributed residuals and megaphone-shaped residuals. In this paper, we review heteroscedastic regression estimators related to robust or efficient estimation and describe their properties. Also, we analyze cost data of U.S. Electricity Producers in 1955 using the methods discussed in the paper.

  • In this paper, Compact Microstrip Resonants Cell(CMRC) have been employed to suppress IMD(Intermodulation Distortion) of the 3-Way Doherty amplifier. This method can not only improve the linearly and the efficiency but also is simpler, smaller and more inexpensive than existing linearly methods; (for example Harmonic feedback, Back off, Feed-forward, Predistortion and so on.) Also, the proposed 3-way Doherty amplifier using only one divider has been reduced size of existing 3-Way Doherty amplifier. As a result, the proposed Doherty amplifier using CMRC and only one divider has been improved for the IMD$_3$ by 4.474dBc, and the PAE by 9.199%, respectively.

  • The use of computers in architectural professions has grown with the power of easy data management, increased sophistication of standalone applications, inexpensive hardware, improved speed of processing, use of standard library and tools for communication and collaboration. Recently, there has been a growing interest in distributed CAAD (Computer-Aided Architectural Design) integration due to the needs of direct collaboration among project participants in different locations, and Internet is becoming the optimal tool for collaboration among participants in architectural design and construction projects. The aim of this research is to provide a new paradigm for a CAAD system by combining research on integrated CAAD applications with recent collaboration technologies. To accomplish this research objective, interactive three-dimensional (3D) design tools and applications running on the Web have been developed for an Internet-based distributed CAAD application system, specifically designed to meet the requirements of the architectural design process. To this end, two different scopes of implementation are evaluated: first, global architecture and the functionality of a distributed CAAD system; and, second, the association of an architectural application to the system.

  • Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is an alkaline topical solution and it derives from the conjunction of silver nitrate and fluoride. It reduces the growth of cariogenic bacteria, inhibits degradation of dentinal collagen, impedes demineralization and enhances remineralization. It is inexpensive due to the low cost of materials and its application to dental surface is very simple and requires relatively short chair time. Previous studies have shown that the dental caries prevention effect of SDF is superior or similar to topical fluoride application. The main disadvantage of SDF is its esthetic result, and it permanently blacken carious enamel and dentin. The use of SDF has not yet been approved in Korea, but it may be helpful to prevent and treat dental caries in patients with special health care needs and uncooperative young patients.

  • Recent technological advances allow us to envision a future where large numbers of low-power, inexpensive sensor devices are densely embedded in the physical environment, operating together in a wireless network. This paper considers localization for mobile sensors; localization must be invoked periodically to enable the sensors to track their location. Localizing more frequently allows the sensors to more accurately track their location in the presence of mobility. In this paper, we test and analyze the accuracy of a moving node localization by Received Signal Strength (RSS).
