  • The purpose of this study was to measure using a six-step solution for taste recognition threshold and using a Wet-Test for salivary flow amount of the adults who reside in Daegu area and are more than their 40's old to find out the relationship between DMFT index and OHIP-14. The study result revealed that the practice of oral health gave an effect to taste recognition threshold, dietary habit gave an effect to salivary flow amount, and sweet and sour taste of taste recognition threshold and salivary flow amount gave effects to the DMFT index. Therefore, it was found that the person with good practice of oral health and dietary habit had good taste, salivary flow amount and DMFT index. According to this result, it is necessary to increase the practice of oral health, increase the sensitivity to taste recognition threshold, improve dietary habit, increase salivary flow amount and decrease DMFT index in order to improve OHIP-14. Dietary habit education has been performed without the evaluation on the individual's level of taste recognition threshold. Therefore, it is necessary to develop the education program to measure and notify the taste recognition threshold in the oral health education so that individual can adjust it by himself.

Answer sheets for questionnarie for 178 workers at Changwon city, Korea, were collected and analyzed using SPSS 19.0. The number of respondents who have visited dental clinic is lower among group with dental caries than group without dental caries. The respondents who have scaling corresponds to 31.3% in the group with dental caries and a little bit lower percentage is shown in the group without dental cares(p<.05). Among those with dental caries, the respondents who experienced tooth pains are to 51.3% and those who had frequent blooding in gum 48.7% and those who had ordors inside the mouth 53.8%. The number of respondents who had scaling within last one year among the group with gingival inflammation is lower than those without it(p<.001). In the group with gingival inflammation, no smokers are corresponding to 13.9%(p<.01) and those with more than 3 times brush of tooth 4.7% and those with oral hygiene devices are to 5.9%. Important variables which have effects on dental caries are understood as self-evaluation for dental health, dental floss or interdental brush, ordors in the mouth. Also variables related with gingival inflammation are considered as tooth brush before bed time, tongue pain, orders in the mouth, the cold as ice tooth and tooth scaling experience. In summary, Oral health education is needed to increase the motivation of industrial workers to control their basic dental disease.

  • With successful extraction of growth factors and bone morphogenic proteins (BMPs) from mammalian teeth, many researchers have supported development of a bone substitute using tooth-derived substances. Some studies have also expanded the potential use of teeth as a carrier for growth factors and stem cells. A broad overview of the published findings with regard to tooth-derived regenerative tissue engineering technique is outlined. Considering more than 100 published papers, our team has developed the protocols and techniques for processing of bone graft material using extracted teeth. Based on current studies and studies that will be needed in the future, we can anticipate development of scaffolds, homogenous and xenogenous tooth bone grafts, and dental restorative materials using extracted teeth.

  • The purpose of the study was to analyze smoking impact factors, knowledge about effects of smoking and effects of oral health-related quality of life. The subjects were 165 male dental clinic visitors. The survey was conducted from November to December 2018. The examinations were smoking impact factors, knowledge about effects of smoking on oral health, oral health-related quality of life, and recognition of smoking cessation support in dentistry. Survey data were analyzed using statistical programs of PASW Statistics ver. 18.0. Smoking groups were more stressful than non-smoking groups(13.0, 9.97) and drinking frequency was higher(2/week, 0.96/week)(p<0.05). Smoking had a significant correlation with stress(r= .283, p<0.001) and stress with OHIP(r= -.263, p<0.001). Regression results show that stress and frequency of drinking are significant factors(p<0.05). Smoking cessation support service was recognized by 32.9 %, but experience of service was only 19.4 %. Smoking cessation support of dentistry was answered positively by 65.5 %. The above results reveal the need for stress and drinking control, oral health education, and active support of oral health professionals for smoking cessation.
