  • New inverter motor drive systems consume 30%~50% less energy compared to existing motor drive systems. For inverter motor drive systems, the development of a 1200V high side driver is critical. This paper presents an advanced 1200V high side driver with low power consumption and high ruggedness. This solution implements a high voltage level shifter which consumes low power by adding a clamped VGS LDMOS driver to the conventional short pulse generator. Moreover, this paper proposes a highly rugged 1200V LDMOS which improves SOA by limiting the hole current. This paper could be applied to smart power modules used for HVAC (heating, ventilation, and airconditioning) and industrial inverters. Consequently, this paper will provide design engineers with an understanding of how they can make a significant contribution to worldwide energy savings.

  • Most of the loads in industrial power distribution systems are balanced and connected to three power systems. However, in the user power distribution systems, most of the loads are single & three phase and unbalanced, generating voltage unbalance. This paper presents a scheme on operation states of a three-phase induction motor under unbalanced voltages. The three-phase voltages applied to the stator winding of the studied induction motor are controlled by respectively adjusting the magnitude and phase angle of each phase. The voltage unbalanced factor(VUF) of the three-phase source voltages can then be varied to examine the different values of VUF on machine's operation characteristics.

  • This paper describes the various characteristics of voltage sags which can affect the functions of three-phase induction motors that are mostly used in the power distribution systems. These assorted characteristics include motor speed losses, voltage recovery, motor reacceleration, and transient characteristics. An experimental study on the induction motor behaviors was also carried out to confirm these impacts. In addition, sequential voltage sags with short durations were considered and investigated. The results show that the occurrence of the second voltage sag after the first one may affects the induction motor adversely.

  • This paper proposes the influences of harmonic current on electrical characteristics of an induction motor. Recently, a power system gets more worse as nonlinear load makes harmonics to affect energy lose of system and shorten lift of machines. In this paper, the electrical effect and THD(Total Harmonic Distortion) of harmonic current to an induction motor which is of great use in the industrial fields are measured and analyzed. A power conversion equipment(inverter) is installed to produce harmonics and variable reactors are installed to reduce the harmonics having an effect on the input terminal. Then the effects of the reactors are measured and analyzed. Also average voltage, current, power and 110 by harmonics are analyzed. The results show that Inn is increased by increasing load of the induction motor and installing reactors. And the harmonics affecting the input terminal are decreased by increasing reactor 3[mH] to 6[mH], however, average power of the induction motor is decreased. Therefore, it is very important that reactors should be carefully installed considering the merits and demerits resulting from the installation of reactors.

  • Power line communication or power line carrier (PLC) is a system for carrying data on a conductor and can also used for electric power transmission. Now the powers used in the motor drive system are mostly DC sources. Even AC powers in some systems are generated from DC sources by the inverter. It is can be forecasted that the DC-link PLC technology will be widely used in various industrial fields. In this paper a novel BLDC motor control system using ASK DC-link PLC technology is proposed. The characteristic of this system is that the communication only needs 2 DC lines and there are no additional lines to translate the reference signals. The number of signal cables can be minimized when the DC-link PLC method is applied in the multi motor control system and the slip ring design also can be simplified when this method is applied in rotation machines. The proposed motor control system is clarified by the PSIM and MATLAB simulations and tested through the hardware prototype.

  • This paper presents a strategy to drive built in-type spindle induction motor which is used as CNC (Computer Numerical Control) in the industrial world. The direct vector control which is robust to the changed machine parameters in the high speed range is used in this motor control method. And electrical model of induction motor presents the basic idea based on observer structure, which is composed of voltage model and current model. But the former has the defects in low speed range, the latter has the defects of sensitivity to motor parameter. Thus Gopinath model flux estimator which is the closed loop flux observer based on two models for the rotor flut estimation is used in this paper. Moreover this paper presents to drive the spindle motor in the high speed range by using the flux weakening control.

  • Induction motors have wide applicability in many fields, both in industrial sectors and households, for their advantages of a high efficiency and robust structure. The introduction of power-source-containing harmonics into the induction motor winding lowers its efficiency and increases its temperature, greatly affecting its operation characteristics. In this study, we performed an electromagnetic field analysis using the time-difference finite-element method with the purpose of analyzing the steady-state current characteristics of an induction motor. Additionally, we calculated the steady-state current with a method combining an electromagnetic field equation and a circuit equation. In the electromagnetic field analysis, the nonlinearity was taken into account using the Newton-Raphson method, and a backward time-difference method was employed for the time derivative term. Then, we compared the steady-state current of the induction motor obtained by calculation with the experimentally measured values, thus validating the proposed algorithm. Furthermore, we analyzed the impacts of the shape and material of the rotor conductor bar of the induction motor on the steady-state current of the main winding.
