This study aims to analyze the effects of the smart technologies acceptance on global supply chain innovation and export performance in Korean small and medium trading companies. As the world prepares for the advent of the 4th industrial revolution the level of smart technology acceptance by Korean small and medium trading companies has not yet reached the level that is compatible with the change of international paradigm. In this respect, this study aims to promote the acceptance of smart technologies and suggest a need of more practical policy for securing international market competitiveness through innovation of global supply chain structure of Korean trading companies. According to the empirical research results, the smart technology acceptance had a significant effect on both the internal supply chain innovation and the export performance. Also, the external supply chain innovation significantly affected export performance. These results suggested that Korean trading companies need to be more active and positive in accepting smart technology so that they can gain more competitive advantage in the 4th industrial revolution era.

Industrial robotic arms are widely adopted in numerous industries for manufacturing automation under factory settings, which eliminates the limitations of manual labor and provides significant productivity and quality benefits. The U.S. modular construction industry, despite having similar controlled factory environments, still heavily relies on manual labor. Thus, this study investigates the U.S., Canada, and Europe-based leading modular construction companies and research labs implementing industrial robotic arms for manufacturing automation. The investigation mainly considered the current research scope, industry state, and constraints, as well as identifying the types and specifications of the robotic arms in use. First, the study investigated well-recognized modular building associations, the Modular Building Institute (MBI), and renowned architecture design magazine, Dezeen to gather industry updates. The authors discovered one university lab and a few companies that adopted Switzerland-based robotic arms, ABB. Researching ABB robotics led to the discovery of ABB's competitor, Germany-based KUKA robotic arms. Consequently, research extended to the companies and labs adopting KUKA models. In total, this study has identified seven modular companies and four research labs. All companies employed robotic arms and gantry robot combinations in a production-line-like system for partial automation, and some adopted design standardization for optimization. The common goal among the labs was to achieve greater flexibility and full automation with robotic arms. This study will help companies better implement robotic arm automation by providing recommendations from investigating its current industry status.
In the defense acquisition, a company's goal is to maximize profits, and the government's goal is to allocate budgets efficiently. Each year, the government estimates the ratio of indirect cost sector to defense companies, and estimates the ratio to be applied when calculating cost of the defense articles next year. The defense industry environment is changing rapidly, due to the increasing trend of defense acquisition budgets, the advancement of weapon systems, the effects of the 4th industrial revolution, and so on. As a result, the cost structure of defense companies is being diversifying. The purpose of this study is to find an alternative that can enhance the rationality of the current methodology for estimating the ratio of indirect cost sector of defense companies. To do this, we conducted data analysis using the R language on the cost data of defense companies over the past six years in the Defense Integrated Cost System. First, cluster analysis was conducted on the cost characteristics of defense companies. Then, we conducted a regression analysis of the relationship between direct and indirect costs for each cluster to see how much it reflects the cost structure of defense companies in direct labor cost-based indirect cost rate estimates. Lastly a new ratio prediction model based on regularized regression analysis was developed, applied to each cluster, and analyzed to compare performance with existing prediction models. According to the results of the study, it is necessary to estimate the indirect cost ratio based on the cost character group of defense companies, and the direct labor cost based indirect cost ratio estimation partially reflects the cost structure of defense companies. In addition, the current indirect cost ratio prediction method has a larger error than the new model.
Pioneer brand and follower brand show differences in their perception of the environmental uncertainty. Market pioneer brand companies think that the environment is relatively simple and doesn't change much, whereas follower bland companies think that the environment is complicated and changes a lot. For market pioneer brand companies, among dynamism on the environment lever, there was less potential for the environment and parts, and government restrictions compared to follower brand companies. Also the complexity of the environment level complicated compared to the follower brand companies in areas such as competition for consumers with rival companies, materials, resources of equipment and parts, government restrictions, and the amount of change of the market's preference of the product.
This study was carried out to evaluate the applicability of the odor source tracking using wind field and fingerprint as a solution tool. First of all, CALMET and HYSPLIT modeling system, and database of odor discharge companies were utilized to track odor from industrial complexes. Secondly, industrial odor fingerprint was made by listing on the 19 domestic industries, and compared with foreign data to assess the representative, and thus the similarity was 86.7%. On the modeling experiment, Sihwa industrial complex did not show any difference because the matching rates of day and night were 49.5% and 50.0%, respectively. However, the Banwol and Sihwa industrial complexes did show some differences due to odor facility density. Separately, in this study, odor samples were obtained from 10 odor discharging companies, located in the Sihwa and Banwol industrial complexes, They were compared with the results of odor tracking modeling. The matched companies were 4 of 10 by three cases of tracking, while the fingerprint and industry of odor monitoring networks and companies matched each other. Therefore, this study confirmed the approach applicability of source tracking system using the fingerprint.
A production system in domestic shoes companies has difficulty in achieving automation and information because of insufficiency of flexibility and standardization. Particularly small and medium sized shoes companies producing by OEM have tendency to chase the given production schedule blindly without considering major factors that may affect the production. Therefore, the production schedules or the process conditions can not be optimally set and are extemporized by the experience in the past. These behaviors cause low productivity and financial loss. To maximize efficiency and productivity of the shoe-making process, we develop a simulation model based on a production system in small and medium sized shoes companies. The model has been developed using ARENA which has been demonstrated to be a powerful tool to simulate various manufacturing systems. Using the simulation model, we find out several problems for the production process, and then suggest several alternatives to improve the system.
Purpose: To reinforce the product competitiveness of Korean small and medium-sized business in the world market. From this analysis, in order for the surveyed Korean companies to be the world-class ones, the managerial aspects to be improved could be clearly pointed out through the measurement indices. Conclusion: This research would provide Korean small and medium-sized companies, which wish to get on the global masterpiece level, with an objective guideline.
Especially, MTO(Make-To-Order) companies take collaborative approaches with their partner companies to make low-price products and/or technologically low intensive products. The collaborative approach to manufacturing requires collaboration with partner companies for inventory review, production plan, and manufacturing to fulfill customer's orders. However, frequent changes of partnerships binder partner companies from sharing production information in effective ways since their information systems have different data architectures and platforms. Therefore, it is required flexible and standardized system integration approach fir effective information sharing. This research studies current status and problems of collaborative production system, proposes an architecture for collaborative production systems based on Web Services which is a standard information technology, and discusses expected effects and the vision of Web Services.
Expanding exports of small and medium-sized companies is crucial for the continuous growth of the Korean economy. Therefore, the government operates various support systems to enhance the export capabilities of these companies. This study aims to analyze the impact of the Korean government's flagship export support system, known as the export initiation support system, on the performance of participating domestic companies. A fixed effect model using panel data was applied to examine the characteristics of 11,099 companies that participated in the export initiation support system from 2016 to 2019. The analysis revealed that the number of exporting countries, employees, and previous export volume had a significant impact on the export amount of participating companies. However, contrary to expectations, the number of overseas marketing participation and the GCL (global competence level) test did not show a significant impact. This study is significant as it provides implications for the development of support projects tailored to the specific needs of small and medium-sized companies, with the goal of improving the export support system.
