  • The change in induced voltage according to the relationship of ground connection between the aluminum sheath layer and a conductor pair in a general telecommunication cable is analyzed. When a measurement is practiced under the condition of separated sheath grounds with an averaged ground resistance of $42.6{\Omega}$, the induced voltage decreases 10 % to the induced voltage without sheath grounds. The induced voltage decreases approximately 50 % in the case of a one-sided common ground and decreases by more than 90 % in the case of a both-sided common ground. This experimental result is similar to the values calculated using the methods of the ITU Directives. In addition, according to a comparison analysis utilizing this ITU method, the measurement error range will be below 10 % in the state of ground resistance of central office less than $10{\Omega}$ and for the terminal side with $100{\Omega}$ less or more.

  • Recently, according to the increase of using the microwave equipments, the interests in effects on human body have been also increased. For example, there have been many researches on making the standard the specific absorbing ratio (SAR) caused by mobile phones. However, it is needed to study on the induced current on human body caused by HF(Hight Frequency) band which can deeply penetrate the human body. Especially, since the RFID systems are applied to the transportation card and the library, it is hooded to research on the effect on human body exposed to the radiated power from the RFID system. In this paper, we designed a cylindrical monopole antenna model of human body exposed to 13.56 MHz RFID system, which can model the induced current on human body. To verify the proposed equivalent antenna model, we compared the induced currents between human body and the equivalent antenna model.

  • Electric railway induces interference voltage on wayside communication cable which brings about communication errors, malfunction of devices, and safety problem. The magnitude of the induced voltage depends on the electromagnetic field coupling which is affected by metallic installations such as rail and track structures. This paper provides an experimental analysis of the screening effect of metallic pipe on the inductive voltage caused on communication cable. The measurements at a high-speed rail site show that the screening effect of metallic pipe is about 20% when the separation distance between the pipe and communication cable is 1~2 m. The screening effects is less than 1% and can be neglected when the separation distance is more than 4 m. These results are useful to evaluate the screening effects of the metallic installations such as water pipe, gas pipe, and reinforcing bar.

  • The present study investigated the effects of two different sources of prosodic strengthening, i.e., boundary and accent, in the articulation of English high front vowels, /i/ and /I/. The vowels were investigated in vowel-initial ('eat' vs. 'it'), /h/-initial ('heat' vs. 'hit') and /p/-initial words ('Pete' vs. 'pit'), which were placed in varying prosodic conditions. Using Electromagnetic Articulograph (EMA), the tongue dorsum positions in the x and y dimensions, the lip opening and the jaw opening (lowering) were measured. With respect to the boundary-induced strengthening, results showed that /i/ and /I/ in vowel-initial words ('eat' - 'it') are produced with a higher tongue position in the domain-intial than domain-medial positions. The fact that the vowels only in the vowel-initial condition showed the domain-intial strengthening (DIS) effect suggests that the DIS effect is localized mainly to the initial position (the locality account). As for the accent-induced strengthening, vowels were produced with a more fronted tongue position and larger lip opening in accented than unaccented positions. This suggests that the presence of accent increases overall sonority of the vowels in various prosodic contexts, and enhances primarily the frontedness of the front high vowels. Taken together, the results indicate that the two types of prosodic strengthening are articulatorily realized differently, supporting the view that they are encoded separately in the speech planning process. The present study also showed the distinction between the two high front vowels in the tongue position (in both the frontedness and the height dimensions), while the jaw did not seem to contribute to the distinction robustly, suggesting that the tongue contributes more in distinguishing the two vowels than the jaw does.

  • The sharing of common corridors by electric power transmission lines and pipelines is becoming more common place. However, such corridor sharing can result in undesired coupling of electromagnetic energy from the power lines to the near facilities. This causes induced voltages on underground metallic pipelines due to the power line currents. This could cause AC corrosion in the pipeline, which could in turn lead to disastrous accidents, such as gas explosion or oil leakage. This paper investigates for the limitation of induced voltage on the buried metal structures which is used in the inside and outside of the country. And then we measure the earth resistance and leakage current of 22.9kV distribution lines and pipe to soil potential of near pipelines in Seoul Korea. Hereby we can see the leakage current flowing through the earthing electrode have an effect on near pipelines.

  • Ultraviolet rays are electromagnetic waves with a shorter wavelength than visible light, and ultraviolet rays that pass through the ozone layer are the main cause of skin aging. Chronic exposure of skin tissue to ultraviolet light activates the Mitogen-activated Protein Kinases (MAPKs) signaling pathways in human keratinocytes, resulting in increased production of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). In this study, we investigated the herbal extracts from Jeju Island on the anti-aging effect in human keratinocytes (HaCaTs) by ultraviolet stimulation. We examined that herb extract from Jeju Island were decreased in anti-aging activity on measuring the level of MMP-1 gene and protein expression in ultraviolet-induced keratinocytes. As a result, it was confirmed that Thymus quinquecostatus extract (TQE) significantly reduced the expression of MMP-1 in a dose-dependent manner by UV irradiated HaCaTs. According to our data, TQE significantly attenuated UV-induced phosphorylation of the MAPKs signaling elements ERK1/2, JNK1/2 and p38 proteins. These results suggest that the MAPKs pathway may contribute to the inhibitory effect of TQE on UV-induced MMP-1 production in human keratinocytes. Our results suggest that TQE may be a protective agent against skin aging by preventing UV-induced MMP-1 production.

  • The one step type pole and two step type pole are used in KEPCO's distribution system. The neutral current increases in three-phase four-wire distribution system due to unbalanced load. Usually, power line and communication line are installed at contiguity by effect of topography in Korea. To this end, the damages such as electrostatic induction, electromagnetic induction and harmonic induction generated by induced voltage and current are occured in power line and communication line. This paper calculates the neutral current in KEPCO's distribution system using EMTP by composing various simulated conditions. Also, these results are verified by vector analysis.

  • In this study reduction effects of magnetic field were analyzed using multi-conductor method in analysis of shield. The method can be effective in the analysis because of reducing the amount of allocated memory and computing time. And also the method can be applicable to analysis of the induced current distributions and skin effect in shield. The results of the analysis are presented.

  • In this paper, we introduce a positioner based on magnetic levitation to eliminate the friction which is the most severe effect to limit high resolution on the micro level. Differently from existing electromagnetic device, the proposed positioner consists of air core solenoid and permanent magnet. Although the combination produces small magnetic force, it is suitable for realizing micro motion repeatedly without the accumulation of error because there is no hysteresis caused by ferromagnetic materials, no eddy current loss, no flux saturation. First, the approximate modeling of stiffness and damping effects between the magnetic elements is made and verified experimentally. Then, we have formulated the dynamic equation of one d.o.f magnetic levitation positioner using linear perturbation method and discussed the necessity of optimization for the chief design parameters to maximize the stability performance.
