  • Global illumination is key factor for realistic image but it is not common in realtime rendering due to its complexity. Visibility of $2^{nd}$ lights is hard to determine because we should process all object for each $2^{nd}$ light. In this paper, we reuse visibility of static objects. We present an indirect illumination algorithm which shows good performance and provides exact $2^{nd}$ light visibility when the scene has small number of moving objects. Our method renders correct image while showing good performance.

  • An increase in the design of commercial buildings with daylighting is beginning to receive more attention, claimed by some as a second revolution in architecture. The benefits of daylighting may vary significantly because a characteristic of daylight is the way in which it varies. Indirect sunlight, however, received in the interior of a building after reflection, can serve a useful purpose as the main source of illumination. In a cloudy climate it can serve as an occasional welcome addition to the available skylight. Also, site constraints or surrounding urban context may necessitate using reflected light sources, or such sources may be an integral part of the overall design objectives and aesthetics of the proposed projects. When reflected sunlight is introduced into a space, its role in general illumination is what is of interest in this study. Results show that reflected sunlight may help the general illumination in almost same level of significance as daylight from diffuse sky. It is also summarized that the contribution of reflected sunlight to general illumination through the year round may be even and uniform regardless of the season. Consequently, introduction of reflected sunlight should be regarded as one of the successful means to enhance the visual environment in quantitative and qualitative way.

  • Most rendering research has concentrated on two sub-problems: modeling the reflection of light sources, and calculating the direct and indirect illumination from light sources and other surfaces. As Kolb wrote in [1], the camera and lens model is an important key component of a rendering system. In this paper we describe a bump-mapping method using camera lens. It allows another level of control in rendering. We developed an efficient framework to develop customized bump mapping lens and combine with other sequence of lens elements to create various effects as shown in Figure 2,3,4,5.

  • In this paper, we took an indirect reflectance type that irradiates light from an LED module, which reflects light from a reflector onto the road. This LED pedestrian lighting design produces minimal glare from a relatively simple structure. Using LightTools 7.2, we conducted a study on the varying shape and curvature of the reflector. In order to further investigate this data, we researched the ratio of the DLOR and ULOR, the average illuminance, and the uniformity of the illumination. Based on this research, we selected optimum conditions to realize the actual LED pedestrian lighting using RELUX software. We found the average illuminance value to be 22[1x] and the illuminance uniformity ratio to be 0.23, which met the criteria of the proposed standards set in KS C 7658. In addition, it also satisfied the criteria of the standards set in KS A 3701 by having TI (Threshold Increment) at 7[%].

  • For realistic rendering volume to calculate the light effects as well as the shade is essential. In order to produce the high quality of the resulting image, it is necessary to represent a global illumination, and it should be considered an indirect effect of the direct impact and scattering of light. It requires a lot of resources in order to perform this operation and, in particular, is very expensive when large amounts of data to be rendered as a volume data is consumed. In this paper, we generate a scatterer template according to the physical laws for each material. Considering that each object having material property stores photons of the template based on the Lambert illumination model. When the volume rendering in this paper, using the photon is stored in the template, based on the voxel to be sampled within the examination volume occluded, and it represents the global illumination of the scattering. Because the materials produced by the template requires a less resource only if comprised of a complex material, a simple operation can be expressed within the scattering volume at a low cost through.

  • This study aimed at suggesting improvement of lighting environment of the coffee house using study place. To this end, a series of field investigation was conducted in four possible target coffee houses around university. The field measurement included measurement of general illuminance and tabletop illuminance, observing illumination condition, and status of artificial lighting. Also, on-site questionnaire survey was administrated to 80 users of field measurement targets about using characteristics of coffee house and user's subjective response on light environment. The results are summarized as follows: (1) According to questionnaire survey, most of users checked 'learning (study and reading)' in 'purpose of coffee house using', and 'slightly dark' was checked most in each subjective response (brightness on general space and on tabletop at daytime/night); (2) as results of measurements on general illuminance and on tabletop illuminance during daytime, only one coffee house was suitable for standard; (3) as results of measurements on illuminance during night, all target coffee houses were not met the standard; (4) as results of uniformity ratios, almost uniformities of general illuminance were not met the standard except one case. The common problems of lighting environment of coffee house were analyzed as lack of daylight illumination e.g. having low amount of sunshine from skylight, un-uniformity of insolation by floor plan and absence of window blind, and un-uniformity of artificial luminous intensity e.g. lack of the number or brightness of artificial lighting, using the indirect lighting, using only local lighting, and non-uniform arrangement of artificial lighting.

  • The purpose of this review was to suggest practical criteria for the clinical translucency evaluation of direct esthetic restorative materials, and to review the translucency with these criteria. For the evaluation of reported translucency values, measuring instrument and method, specimen thickness, background color, and illumination should be scrutinized. Translucency parameter (TP) of 15 to 19 could be regarded as the translucency of 1 mm thick human enamel. Visual perceptibility threshold for translucency difference in contrast ratio (${\Delta}CR$) of 0.07 could be transformed into ${\Delta}TP$ value of 2. Translucency differences between direct and indirect resin composites were perceivable (${\Delta}TP>2$). Universal and corresponding flowable resin composites did not show perceivable translucency differences in most products. Translucency differed significantly by the product within each shade group, and by the shade group within each product. Translucency of human enamel and perceptibility threshold for translucency difference may be used as criteria for the clinical evaluation of translucency of esthetic restorative materials.

  • Nowadays, the consuming society, the quality of wideness is increasing as the economic life level increases. Modern's any of large department stores, playing a very important role in the middle of our consuming culture, is creating a new life culture and life patterns including producing a new consuming value, too. This is a plan for a renewal design of an inner shop at a department store for brand launching in Seoul, which was planed to escape from the brand's own cold color to show up the product's color using indirect illumination. It was also considered clients' path lines who may keep at a distance to come into an expensive brand's store by designing the whole area as a show room, so there a window display and a harmony with the products let the shop be well functionalized.

  • The energy efficiency of existing lighting appliances has continuously been improving due to the government aid such as rebate programs and information of energy saving, etc. However, the usage pattern of lighting appliance at this moment has more been increasing higher illumination and indirect lighting method according that the taste of customers has changed variously. This paper estimates the economic evaluation and simulation for FPL45[W] lamp & ballast instead of FPL55 lamp & ballast in order to study the governmental support to demand side management.

  • Human factors engineering design guidelines for main control rooms(MCR) in nuclear power plants(NPP) have been applied to optimize human-machine interface(HMI) between operators and their equipment on the basis of physical, physiological and cognitive aspects. However, the HMI design for MCR is not found to be sufficient to maximize operators' performance since the operators in the MCR experience excessive stress due to the environmental factors such as inappropriate interiors and illumination. Therefore, well-designed environment of the MCR may be equally important to improve human performance in the MCR. The objectives of the study are two-fold: (1) to propose an interior design of SHIN-KORI 1 2 for pleasant and comfortable working environments, and (2) to design indirect lighting system to enhance visibility and productivity. The human factors engineering checklists were developed to examine whether or not the proposed human-environment design for SHIN-KORI 1 2 satisfies the regulations and guidelines presented by NUREG-0700 Revision 1. The implications of the human-environment design are discussed in detail.
