영화 비디오 자막 추출 및 추출된 자막 이미지 향상 방법 (Methods for Video Caption Extraction and Extracted Caption Image Enhancement)

  • 디지털 비디오 영상을 효과적으로 색인하고 검색하기 위해서 비디오의 내용을 함축적으로 표현하고 있는 비디오 자막을 추출하여 인식하는 연구가 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 압축되지 않은 비디오 영화 영상에 인위적으로 삽입한 한글 및 영어 자막을 대상으로 자막 영역을 추출하고, 추출된 자막 이미지를 향상시키는 방법을 제안한다. 제안한 방법의 특징은 동일한 내용의 자막을 갖는 프레임들의 위치를 자동으로 찾아서 동일 자막 프레임들을 다중 결합하여 배경에 포함되어 있는 잡영의 일부 또는 전부를 우선 제거한다. 또한, 이 결과 이미지에 해상도 중대, 히스토그램 평활화, 획 기반 이진화, 스무딩의 이미지 향상 방법을 단계적으로 적용하여 인식 가능한 수준의 이미지로 향상시킨다. 제안한 방법을 비디오 영상에 적용하여 동일한 내용의 자막 그룹 단위로 자막 이미지를 추출하는 것이 가능해졌으며, 잡영이 제거되고 복잡한 자소의 획이 보존된 자막 이미지를 추출할 수 있었다. 동일한 내용의 자막 프레임의 시작 및 글위치를 파악하는 것은 비디오 영상의 색인과 검색에 유용하게 활용될 수 있다. 한글 및 영어 비디오 영화 자막에 제안한 방법을 적용하여 향상된 문자 인식 결과를 얻었다.

효율적인 정보 검색 시스템 구축을 위한 새로운 프로세스 구조 (A New process Structure for Constructing Efficient Information Retrieval Systems)

  • 기존 정보 검색 시스템의 프로세스 구조는 사용자를 위한 클라이언트 프로세스와 정보검색 시스템을 위한 서버 프로세스가 일대일로 대응하는 간단한 구조이다. 그러 나 사용자 마다 사용자 인터페이스, 검색 모델, 자동색인 및 저장 시스템으로 구성되 어 있는 큰 서버 프로세스가 하나씩 할당되기 때문에 많은 수의 사용자가 정보검색 시스템을 사용할 때 시스템 오버헤드가 커져 시스템을 사용할 수 없는 문제를 발생시 킨다. 본 논문에서는 이와 같은 기존 정보 검색 시스템의 프로세스 구조가 갖는 문제 점을 해결한 효율적인 정보 검색 시스템 구축을 위한 새로운 프로세스 구조를 제안한 다. 제안된 프로세스 구조는 정보 검색 시스템의 전체적인 동작 성능 및 컴퓨터 시스 템 자원의 효율적인 활용에 기여할 수 있게 된다. 제안된 프로세스의 구축은 프로세 스 오버헤드를 최소화하여 많은 수의 사용자 환경을 지원할 수 있는 다중 스레드와 전체 시스템의 성능을 향상시키기 위해 제공되는 트랜잭션 처리 모니터에 근거한다.

A New Anchor Shot Detection System for News Video Indexing

  • In this paper, we present a new anchor shot detection system which is a core step of the preprocessing process for the news video analysis. The proposed system is composed of four modules and operates sequentially: 1) skin color detection module for reducing the candidate face regions; 2) face detection module for finding the key-frames with a facial data; 3) vector representation module for the key-frame images using a non-negative matrix factorization; 4) anchor shot detection module using a support vector data description. According to our computer experiments, the proposed system shows not only the comparable accuracy to the recent other results, but also more faster detection rate than others.

  • Word processor having the functions of a typewriter and a computer together have been used as a powerful tools for office automation. The purpose of this study is to find out the possible areas of the word processing a n.0, pplication in the library operations. For the study, the general concept, developmental process, structure, functions, kinds and suggested a n.0, pplicable areas in the library operations of word processor were investigated. Then, the cases of real a n.0, pplications of word processor in the library field were examplified. In conclusion, the areas where word processor can be of benefit to library workers can be summarized as follows, 1) Orders of books and periodical acquisitions, 2) On-line searching, and storage and editing of input as required, 3) Production of catalogues, and abstracting and indexing bulletin, 4) Budget control, circulation control, and serial control.

임베디드 멀티미디어 시스템을 위한 파일 시스템의 설계 및 구현 (A File System for Embedded Multimedia Systems)

  • Nowadays, we have many embedded systems which store and process multimedia data. For multimedia systems using hard disks as storage media such as DVR, existing file systems are not the right choice to store multimedia data in terms of cost. performance and reliability. In this study we designed a reliable file system with very high performance for embedded multimedia applications. The proposed file system runs with quite simple disk layout to reduce time to initialize and to recover after power failures, uses a large data block to speed up the sequential accesses, incorporates a time-based indexing scheme to improve the time-based random accesses and boosts reliability by backing up the important meta data on a small NVRAM. We implemented the file system on a Linux-based DVR and verified the performance by comparing with existing file systems.

  • We propose an indexing technique and an index selection algorithm for optimal OLAP query processing in object database systems, Although there are many research results on the relational database systems for OLAP Query processing, few researches have been done on the object database systems. Since OLAP queries represent complex business logic on a huge data ware-house, object database systems supporting the OLAP queries should have higher performance. Proposed bitmap index structure is an extension of conventional bitmap indexes for adapting object databases and provides higher performance with lower space overhead. We also propose a linear time solution of the index selection problem that will be used in the OLAP query optimization process.

수정 제분행렬 재 인수화법 (Modified Partial Matrix Refactorization)

  • Partial Matrix Refactorization (PR) has been available for refactorization repeatedly. But this paper aims to present Modified PR(MPR), which is faster in (re) factorization speed and simpler in program than PR, but storage is almost as big as that of PR. MPR substitutes refactorization process of PR1 for Modifide Trifactortzation (MT) and, instead of PR 2, adds to PR1 the algoritm that calculates modified element values of modified row / cols. MT, which is subalgorithm for MPR, simplifies the algorithm by applying information vectors to currently used Trifactorization, and trifactorizes and refactorizes in high speed. The test results of Fast Decoupled Load Flow (FDLF) and Contingency Analysis useing Indexing Scheme and Optimal Ordering also prove that MPR is faster than PR.

Applications of Open-source NoSQL Database Systems for Astronomical Spatial and Temporal Data

  • We present our experiences with open-source NoSQL database systems in analyzing spatial and temporal astronomical data. We conduct experiments of using Redis in-memory NoSQL database system by modifying and exploiting its support of geohash for astronmical spatial data. Our experiment focuses on performance, cost, difficulty, and scalability of the database system. We also test OpenTSDB as a possible NoSQL database system to process astronomical time-series data. Our experiments include ingesting, indexing, and querying millions or billions of astronomical time-series measurements. We choose our KMTNet data and the public VVV (VISTA Variables in the Via Lactea) catalogs as test data. We discuss issues in using these NoSQL database systems in astronomy.

Segmentation and Appearance Features Index for Digital Video Data

  • The numbers of digital video cameras are fast increased. Accordingly, digital video data management is becoming more important. Efficient storing method and fast browsing method still remains to be one of significant issue. In this paper, an optimized data storing process without losing information and an organized appearance features indexing method are proposed. Also, the data removing policy could be used to reduce large amount of space and it facilitates fast sequential search. The appearance features index constructs key information of moving objects to answer queries about what people are doing, particularly when, where and who they move. The evaluation results showed better performance in the transfer time and the saving in storage space.

Improving Elasticsearch for Chinese, Japanese, and Korean Text Search through Language Detector

  • Elasticsearch is an open source search and analytics engine that can search petabytes of data in near real time. It is designed as a distributed system horizontally scalable and highly available. It provides RESTful APIs, thereby making it programming-language agnostic. Full text search of multilingual text requires language-specific analyzers and field mappings appropriate for indexing and searching multilingual text. Additionally, a language detector can be used in conjunction with the analyzers to improve the multilingual text search. Elasticsearch provides more than 40 language analysis plugins that can process text and extract language-specific tokens and language detector plugins that can determine the language of the given text. This study investigates three different approaches to index and search Chinese, Japanese, and Korean (CJK) text (single analyzer, multi-fields, and language detector-based), and identifies the advantages of the language detector-based approach compared to the other two.
