Applications involving moving objects require index structures to handle frequent updates of objects' locations efficiently. Several methods to index the current, the past and the future positions of moving objects have been proposed for the applications. Most of them are based on R-tree like index structures. Some researches have made efforts to improve update performance of R-trees that are actually focused on query performance. Even though the update performance is improved by researchers' efforts, the overhead and immaturity of concurrency control algorithms of R-trees makes us hesitate to choose them for moving objects. In this paper, we propose an update efficient indexing method that can be applicable for indexing the past, the current and the future locations. The proposed index is based on B+-Trees and Hilbert curve. We present an advanced Hilbert curve that adjusts automatically the order of Hilbert curve in subregions according to the data distribution and the number of data objects. Through empirical studies, we show that our strategy achieves higher response time and throughput.

Recently, with the rapid development of location-based techniques, index structures to efficiently manage moving objects have been required. In this paper, we propose a new spatio-temporal index structure that supports a future position retrieval and minimizes a update cost. The proposed index structure combines an assistant index structure that directly accesses current positions of moving objects with KDB-tree that is a space partitioning access method. The internal node in our proposed index structure keeps time parameters in order to support the future position retrieval and to minimize a update cost. Moreover, we propose new update and split methods to maximize the space utilization and the search performance. We perform various experiments to show that our proposed index structure outperforms the existing index structure.

The navigation algorithm developed based on the extended Kalman filter (EKF) sometimes diverges when the linearity between the measurements and the states is not preserved. In this study, new update conditions together with two conditions from previous study for gravity gradient referenced navigation (GGRN) were deduced for the filter performance. Also, the effect of each update conditions was evaluated imposing the various magnitudes of the database (DB) and the sensor errors. In case the DB and the sensor errors were supposed to 0.1 Eo and 0.01 Eo, the navigation performance was improved in the eight trajectories by using part of gravity gradient components that independently estimate states located within trust boundary. When applying only the components showing larger variation, around 200% of improvement was found. Even the DB and sensor error were supposed to 3 Eo, six update conditions improved performance in at least seven trajectories. More than five trajectories generated better results with 5 Eo error of the DB and the sensor. Especially, two update conditions successfully control divergence, and bounded the navigation error to the 1/10 level. However, these update conditions could not be generalized for all trajectories so that it is recommended to apply update conditions at the stage of planning, or as an index of precision of GGRN when combine with various types of geophysical data and algorithm.

In this paper, we present a comcurrency control scheme over the index structure in main memory databases using multiversion mechanism, and implement it on T-tree. As a well-known idea for comcurrency control, multiversion allows multiple transactions to reat and write different versions of the same data item, each transaction sees a consistent set of versions for all the data items it accesses[1]. Logical versioning and physical versioning techniques are used to keep versions of data item and versions of index node respectively. The main features of this multiversion indexing approach are (1)update operations and rotations on T-tree can take place concurrently, (2)the number of locking and latching requirement is sharply reduced because read-only transactions do not obtain any locks or latches and update transactions obtain latches only when actually performing the update, (3)it reduces storage overhead for tracking version and reclaims storage in time, and (4)it provides complete isolation of read-only transactions from update transactions, so the read-only transactions can get response information without any block.
We propose a new cache conscious indexing structure for processing frequently updated data efficiently. Our proposed index structure is based on a KDB-Tree, one of the representative index structures based on space partitioning techniques. In this paper, we propose a data compression technique and a pointer elimination technique to increase the utilization of a cache line. To show our proposed index structure's superiority, we compare our index structure with variants of the CR-tree(e.g. the FF CR-tree and the SE CR-tree) in a variety of environments. As a result, our experimental results show that the proposed index structure achieves about 85%, 97%, and 86% performance improvements over the existing index structures in terms of insertion, update and cache-utilization, respectively.

In this paper, the integrated search system made for the web news and review retrieval service is introduced. We made XSLTRobot that extract title, date, author and content from html document like news or reviews for search service. XSLTRobot used the XSLT technology in order to extract desired part of html page. The Intergrated Information Retrieval System(IIRS) is suitable for various search data format. And we introduce Dynamic Index Storage which is module of IIRS. Dynamic Index Storage is used to environment which needs fast index update like news. And it's design focused on retrieval performance because there was not many document that it has to update on a real time.
Because most researches that were studied so far on XML documents used an absolute coordinate system in most of the index techniques, the update operation makes a large burden. To express the structural relations between elements, attributes and text, we need to reconstruct the structure of the coordinates. As the reconstruction process proceeds through out the entire XML document in a cascade manner, which is not limited to the current changing node, a serious performance problem may be caused by the frequent update operations. In this paper, we propose an index technique based on extensible index that does not cause serious performance degradations. It can limit the number of node to participate in reconstruction process and improve lots of performance capacities on the whole. And extensible index performs the containment relationship query by the simple expression using SQL statement.
Until now, many indexing methods that can reduce update cost have been proposed for managing massive moving objects. Because indexing methods for moving objects have to be updated periodically for managing moving objects that change their location data frequently. However these kinds indexing methods occur big load that exceed system capacity when the number of moving objects increase dramatically. In this paper, we propose the update frequency reducing method to combine MapReduce and existing indices. We use the update request grouping method for each moving object by using MapReduce. We decide to update by comparing the latest data and the oldest data in grouping data. We reduce update frequency by updating the latest data only. When update is delayed, for the data should not be lost and updated periodically, we store the data in a certain period of time in the hash table that keep previous update data. By the performance evaluation, we can prove that the proposed method reduces the update frequency by comparison with methods that are not applied the proposed method.
A spatial data warehouse has spatial data cube composed of multi-dimensional data for efficient OLAP(On-Line Analytical Processing) operations. A spatial data cube supporting concept hierarchies holds huge amount of data so that many researches have studied a incremental update method for minimum modification of a spatial data cube. The Cube, however, compressed by eliminating prefix and suffix redundancy has coalescing paths that cause update inconsistencies for some updates can affect the aggregate value of coalesced cell that has no relationship with the update. In this paper, we propose incremental batch update method of a spatial data cube. The proposed method uses duplicated nodes and extended node structure to avoid update inconsistencies. If any collision is detected during update procedure, the shared node is duplicated and the duplicate is updated. As a result, compressed spatial data cube that includes concept hierarchies can be updated incrementally with no inconsistency. In performance evaluation, we show the proposed method is more efficient than other naive update methods.

A TPR-tree is a well-known indexing structure that is developed to answer queries about the current or future time locations of moving objects. For the purpose of space efficiency, the TPR-tree employs the notion of VBR (velocity bounding rectangle)so that a regionalrectangle presents varying positions of a group of moving objects. Since the rectangle computed from a VBR always encloses the possible maximum range of an indexed object group, a search process only has to follow VBR-based rectangles overlapped with a given query range, while searching toward candidate leaf nodes. Although the TPR-tree index shows up its space efficiency, it easily suffers from the problem of dead space that results from fast and constant expansions of VBR-based rectangles. Against this, the TPR-tree index is enforced to update leaf nodes for reducing dead spaces within them. Such an update-prone feature of the TPR-tree becomes more problematic when the tree is saved in flash storage. This is because flash storage has very expensive update costs. To solve this problem, we propose a new Bloom filter based caching scheme that is useful for reducing updates in a flash TPR-tree. Since the proposed scheme can efficiently control the frequency of updates on a leaf node, it can offer good performance for indexing moving objects in modern flash storage.
