  • The problem ( Ρ ) of optimizing a linear function d$\^$T/x over the set of efficient set for a multiple objective linear program ( Μ ) is difficult because the efficient set is nonconvex. There some interesting properties between the objective linear vector d and the matrix of multiple objectives C and those properties lead us to establish criteria to solve ( Ρ ) with a linear program. In this paper we investigate a system of the linear equations C$\^$T/${\alpha}$=d and construct two linearly independent positive vectors ${\mu}$, ν such that ${\alpha}$=${\mu}$-ν. From those vectors ${\mu}$, ν, solving an weighted sum linear program for finding an efficient extreme point for the ( Μ ) is a way to get an optimal solution ( Ρ ). Therefore our theory gives an easy way of solving nonconvex program ( Ρ ) with a weighted sum linear program.

  • A bootstrap and aggregating (bagging) vector quantization (VQ) classifier is proposed for speaker recognition. This method obtains multiple training data sets by resampling the original training data set, and then integrates the corresponding multiple classifiers into a single classifier. Experiments involving a closed set, text-independent and speaker identification system are carried out using the TIMIT database. The proposed bagging VQ classifier shows considerably improved performance over the conventional VQ classifier.

  • The Purpose of this study is to find out the relationships of affective outcomes and work itself performed by librarians. General job satisfaction, internal work motivation and growth satisfaction were set as independent variables in this study. Work effectiveness was set as a dependent variable. The result of multiple regressions by the data from 88 systems librarians who work at university libraries showed that affective outcomes affect work effectiveness, and growth satisfaction is important to affective outcome.

  • In rough set literatures, methods for inducing minimal rules from a given decision table have been proposed. When the decision attribute is ordinal, inducing rules about upward and downward unions of decision classes is advantageous in the simplicity of obtained rules. However, because of independent applications of the rule induction method, inclusion relations among upward/downward unions in conclusion parts are not inherited to the condition parts of obtained rules. This non-inheritance may debase the quality of obtained rules. To ensure that inclusion relations among conclusions are inherited to conditions, we propose two rule induction approaches. The performances of the proposed approaches considering the inclusion relations between conclusions are examined by numerical experiments.

  • The article contains an introduction of possibility of applying Multi-Attribute Utility Theory(MAUT) for priority setting of R&D projects. MAUT is compared with AHP, which is widely used recently. These two techuiques are applied to set priorities of R&D projects In a Government-funded Research Institute. Six criteria are chosen from consultation with decision makers. They are composed of 1) validity as representative projects, 2) possibility of resource mobilization, 3) spillover effect of developed technologies, 4) possibility of success, 5) scope of participation and 6) clarity of research goal. To set priorities of R&D projects, SMART(Simple MultiAttribute Rating Technique) and DVM(Difference Value Measurement) out of many MAUT methods are used to design the utility function and to determine the weights among criteria. The aggregation model is additive on the assumption the criteria are independent. AHP executes pairwise comparisons for criteria and alternatives. From the results of the case study, the results and theoretical characteristics are compared.

  • The effective extraction of key frames from a video stream is an essential task for summarizing and representing the content of a video. Accordingly, this paper proposes a new and fast method for extracting key frames from a compressed video. In the proposed approach, after the entire video sequence has been segmented into elementary content units, called shots, key frame extraction is performed by first assigning the number of key frames to each shot, and then distributing the key frames over the shot using a probabilistic approach to locate the optimal position of the key frames. The main advantage of the proposed method is that no time-consuming computations are needed for distributing the key frames within the shots and the procedure for key frame extraction is completely automatic. Furthermore, the set of key frames is independent of any subjective thresholds or manually set parameters.

  • Many of the currently used PN code acquisition algorithms detect the phase of the incoming PN signal on the basis of ML estimation principle and utilize statistics grounded in taking inner products. By showing that any set of 2n-1 PN sequences arising in SSRG or MSRG (those typically used in IS'95 implementations) configuration constitutes a linearly independent set and that the number of candidate PN sequences has to equal the dimension of the span of the candidate PN sequences, we prove that the lowerbounding computational complexity involved in any PN code acquistion, utilizing (only) inner product computations at each stage of acquisition, corresponds precisely to those, such as double dwell acquistion circuitries, currently used.

  • In this paper, a independent and structured microassembler was designed for easily changing the system design, and for designing various microarchitecture. When the designer's hardware and microprogramming process were made concurrently, it is needed to easily change or improve the instruction set and executable code format. But this type of developed environment requires a high const and a large software system. A proposed microassembler was designed so the designer directly defines the microinstruction set and format to be executed. And we implemented a module from each part of the software, so it is now possible to use practically and upgrade the function of each part, First, the symbol was separated from the assembler. And then microinstruction was copied into it. The microinstruction format was designed using the defined language that was designed for free microinstruction. This was implemented in an IBM-PC by using the C-language, FLEX,and BISON.

  • The degenerate case of multivariable hyperbolic distributed-parameter systems (systems of hyperbolic partial differential equations) in time coordinate t and space coordinate x is characterized by a property that all the characteristic curves of the state equations are parallel to the coordinate axes of independent variables. It is a disturbing fact, although not well known, that the so-called maximum principle as applied to these systems does not exist for the control that depend on time alone. In this paper, however, it is shown that a set of necessary conditions in the small can exist for unconstrained as well as magnitude constrained controls in a locally convex set. The necessary conditions thus derived can be used conveniently to find the optimal control for degenerate hyperbolic distributed-parameter control systems.
