Corporate Governance and Financial Stability of Islamic Banks in Asia

  • An economic system is a means by which societies or governments organize and distribute available resources, services, and goods across a geographic region or country. The Islamic financial system faces a number of challenges as part of its role as a tool for developing economic activities. This study intends to advance research by Lassoued (2018) by expanding the research population to include Islamic banks in Asia and adding new dimensions - the size of the independent commissioner and corporate governance. The population of this study is the 100 largest Islamic banks in Asia. Statistical calculations with the STATA application is used for data analysis. Based on the test results, it was found that the size of the sharia board and the independent board of directors did not affect the financial stability of Islamic banking companies. Another finding is that the size of the independent commissioner affects financial stability. This finding shows that commissioners have played an active role in the company, indicating that if the sharia banking company has an ideal number of independent commissioners, it will be advantageous to the company's stability and business sustainability.

  • This paper suggest a methodology for representation of findings which can be called as signs and symptoms. A finding consists of unit signs and unit symptoms, and moreover findings which appear in one individual patient have so many different relationship each other. So, it is nat appropriate to list all of possible findings as medical standard or to fill findings as independent things in paper for medical record. We try to distinguish finding item from finding list, and suggest the methodology by which we can make finding list from finding items. That is, we suggest finding item[Concept], value types, relationship, logical operator, and syntax as a component of representation. And by using urinary symptom, we make the example for representation methodology. Finally, we mention the background knowledge, brief research process of related area.

  • Collinearity among independent variables can have severe effects on the precision of response estimation for some region of interest in the experiments with mixture. A method of finding optimal linear restriction on regression parameter in linear model for mixture experiments in the sense of minimizing integrated mean squared error is studied. We use the formulation of optimal restrictions on regression parameters for estimating responses proposed by Park(1981) by transforming mixture components to mathematically independent variables.

Statistical Extraction of Speech Features Using Independent Component Analysis and Its Application to Speaker Identification

  • We apply independent component analysis (ICA) for extracting an optimal basis to the problem of finding efficient features for representing speech signals of a given speaker The speech segments are assumed to be generated by a linear combination of the basis functions, thus the distribution of speech segments of a speaker is modeled by adapting the basis functions so that each source component is statistically independent. The learned basis functions are oriented and localized in both space and frequency, bearing a resemblance to Gabor wavelets. These features are speaker dependent characteristics and to assess their efficiency we performed speaker identification experiments and compared our results with the conventional Fourier-basis. Our results show that the proposed method is more efficient than the conventional Fourier-based features in that they can obtain a higher speaker identification rate.

  • In this study, Independent Component Analysis (ICA) algorithms are suggested to extract the original ECG part from the mixed signal contaminated with the unwanted frequency components and especially 60Hz power line disturbances. With this aim, we implement a novel method to suppress the baseline-wandering disturbances and power line artefacts contained in patch-electrodes sensory ECG data by separating the unmixed signal with finding the optimal weight W based on Kurtosis value. With applying brutal force and gradient ascent searching algorithm to find W, we can conclude that the unwanted frequency components especially in the ambulatory ECG data can be eliminated by Independent Component Analysis.

  • Semantic clustering is important to various fields in the modem information society. In this work we applied the Independent Component Analysis method to the extraction of the features of latent concepts. We used verb and object noun information and formulated a concept as a linear combination of verbs. The proposed method is shown to be suitable for our framework and it performs better than a hierarchical clustering in latent semantic space for finding out invisible information from the data.

  • In this paper, we have formulated optimum Accelerated Life Test (ALT) plan for a parallel system with two independent components using masked data with ramp-stress loading scheme and Type-I censoring. Consider a system of two independent and non-identical components connected in parallel. Such a system fails whenever all of its components has failed. The exact component that causes the system to fail is often unknown due to cost and time constraint. For each parallel system at test, we observe its system's failure time and a set of component that includes the component actually causing the system to fail. The stress-life relationship is modelled using inverse power law, and cumulative exposure model is assumed to model the effect of changing stress. The optimal plan consists in finding out the optimum stress rate using D-optimality criterion. The method developed has been explained using a numerical example and sensitivity analysis carried out.

  • Neurons in the mammalian visual cortex can be dassified into the two main categories of simple cells and complex cells based on their response properties. Here, we find the complex features corresponding to the response of complex cells by applying the unsupervised independent component analysis network to input images. This result will be helpful to elucidate the information processing mechanism of neurons in primary visual cortex.

  • This study is about finding factors affecting user experience satisfaction in Korean local bookstores which are increasing recently. Previous researches are concentrated on the aspect of supplier. However, a study for actual users is needed to help develop bookstore industry. The local bookstores were classified into independent, professional, and complex cultural bookstores. Based on the four realms of an experience by the Experience Economy, this study analyzed the experience factors through questionnaires. As a result of study, the three most significant factors influencing experience satisfaction were identified through regression analysis. It is expected that this study may help develop the local bookstores industry in the future by concentrating on the actual experience of the user and finding out the major experience factors.
