The Rolling Behavior of a Small Regular Polygonal Part on an Inclined Plane (경사면 위에서 작은 정다각형 부품의 구름 거동)

  • This paper presents the mathematical model for rolling behaviors of a small regular polygonal part on an inclined plane. Throughout the numerical analysis performed with the simulation program which has been experimentally validated, it is shown that the number of edges of the rolling polygonal part can be a measure for the energy dissipation rather than the coefficient of friction. The appropriate slope angle has been found to be around 20 degree for roughness-separation as well as shape-separation of polygonal parts which have small number of edges. In additions, the vibratory motion applied to the inclined plane is able to cause mixed parts to be separated more effectively according to the shape or the roughness. Finally, a couple of parts separation methods based on the analysis results are presented, and are validated through the numerical simulation.

  • The study of the high speed machining of inclined plane using ball end mill is performed. The use of ball end mill is rapidly growing in die and mold manufacturing. The cutting characteristics, such as cuttin g force, surface roughness and surface profile, are varied according to the variation of cutting directions. Free surface is cut using ball end mill, the surface profile is greatly varied depending upon the cutting direction. So this study will deal with the characteristics of cutting such as cutting efficiency according to the inclined plane of the workpiece, the cutting force according to tool path, surface profile and the roughness of surface. The optimal cutting direction to be applied the cutting for 3-D sculptured surfaces can be show through the results of this study.

Obstacle Position Detection on an Inclined Plane Using Randomized Hough Transform and Corner Detection (랜덤하프변환과 코너추출을 이용한 경사면의 장애물 위치 탐색)

  • This paper suggests a judgement method for an inclined plane before entrance of it and the detection of obstacle position. Main idea is started from the assumption that obstacle is always on the bottom plane, and corner appears at this position. The process to detect the obstacle consists of three steps. First the 3D data using stereo matching is acquired to detect an obstacle. Second a bottom plane is extracted by using limit condition. Last the obstacle position is found by using Harris corner detection. Obstacle position detection on an inclined plane was verified by outdoor and indoor experiment. In error analysis, it is confirmed that an average error of obstacle detection in outdoor was larger than the error in indoor but the error are within about 0.030 m. This method will be applied to unmanned vehicles to navigate under various environment.

  • While spatial plastic mechanism analysis has been widely and successfully applied to thinwalled steel structures to analyse the post-failure behaviour of sections and connections, there remains some contention in the literature as to the basic capacity of an inclined yield line. The simple inclined hinge commonly forms as part of the more complex spatial mechanism, which may involve a number of hinges perpendicular or inclined to the direction of thrust. In this paper some of the existing theories are compared with single inclined yield lines that form in flange outstands, by comparing the theories with plate tests of plates simply supported on three sides with the remaining (longitudinal) edge free. The existing mechanism theories do not account for different in-plane displacement gradients of the loaded edge, nor the slenderness of the plates, and produce conservative results. A modified theory is presented whereby uniform and non-uniform in-plane displacements of the loaded edge of the flange, and the slenderness of the flange, are accounted for. The modified theory is shown to compare well with the plate test data, and its application to flanges that are components of sections in compression and/or bending is presented.

Middle School and Science-gifted Students' Conceptions about Motion of Objects on the Surface of the Earth and the Moon (지구와 달 표면에서 물체의 운동에 대한 일반 중학생들과 과학영재학생들의 개념)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate middle school and science-gifted students' conceptions about motion of objects on the surface of the earth and the moon. The subjects were 61 first-, 51 second-, 51 third-year students, for a total of 163 in a middle school and 32 science-gifted students from a university-affiliated sciencegifted education center for secondary school students. The research contents were conceptions about motion of objects by the vertical direction, an inclined plane and horizontal plane on the surface of the earth and the moon. The questions were as follows: If two balls, same size but different mass, were put on, thrown over, by the vertical direction, an inclined plane and a horizontal plane on the surface of the earth and the moon at the same time and speed, which one would arrive faster than the other?; In the same mass in the earth and the moon, how fast could the object reach to which location, the earth or the moon? The results showed that science-gifted students offer meaningful difference on the concept of objects in motion at the vertical direction, an inclined plane and a horizontal plane on the earth and at the vertical direction on the moon than general middle school students. There were meaningful difference on the vertical up direction, an inclined plane and a horizontal plane in the same situation in the earth and the moon. Finally, based on the results of our study, we discuss possible educational implications for teaching the concept of objects in motion.

  • Digital Elevation Model(DEM) is basic spatial information used in various GIS areas such as spatial analysis, 3D modeling, etc. In particular, DEM of road inclined plane is need for the plan, design, construction and maintenance of social infrastructures such as roads and bridges in construction technology, one of GIS application. However, generating DEM of road inclined plane with high accuracy is very difficult. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to propose how to generate road DEM with high accuracy through extracting road inclined plane automatically using Laser scanning data.

  • This paper deals with the establishment of the cutting direction on inclined plane by using ball end mill. Ball-end milling is widely used for free form surface die and mold. In these machining, the cutting parts vary because the tool tip is hemisphere shaped. The cutting characteristics, such as cutting force, surface roughness and surface profile are varied according to the variation of cutting directions. The effective tool diameter was calculated on different tilt angles and tool-path. Tool life and cutting characteristics were estimated on variation of cutting directions in the same cutting speed. In this paper, the optimal cutting direction which can be applied 3-D sculpture surface cutting is suggested.

Static and free vibration analysis of shallow sagging inclined cables

  • Based on link-model, we conducted a static analysis and computation of a three-span suspended cable structure in the present paper, and obtained the static configuration and tension distribution of the cable. Using the link and beam model based on finite element method, we analyzed the vibration modal of three-span suspended cable structure, and compared with the results obtained from ANSYS using link and beam element. The vibration modals of shallow sagging inclined cables calculated from proposed method agrees well with ANSYS results, which validates the proposed method. As a result, the influence of bend stiffness on in-plane natural frequencies is much greater than that on out-of-plane natural frequencies of inclined cables.

The Effect of Electroacupuncture on Concentration and Activity of CK, ALP, and IgG in Serum and Central Nervous System of Rats (전침자극이 중추신경계 손상 흰쥐에서 CK, ALP, IgG 효소활성도에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study investigated the effect of electroacupuncture stimulation on changes in blood biochemistry in spinal cord injury (SCI) rats whose cords were damaged by 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA). Methods: Twenty-one Sprague-Dawley adult male rats were assigned to one of three groups: normal (n=7), control (n=7) and experimental group (n=7). The experimental group received electroacupuncture (Es-160, ITO, Japan) for 15 minutes in the form of low frequency (2 Hz) stimulation to the zusanli point. After treatment, we observed motor behavior recovery using the inclined plane test. We also measured serum and CNS concentrations and activities of enzymes including creatine kinase (CK), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and Immunoglobulin G (IgG). Statistical analysis was done using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). Results: Concentrations of CK, ALP and IgG were lower in the experimental group than in the control group. Functional recovery was evaluated by the maximal angle of the inclined board on which rats could maintain their initial position. This allowed us to monitor progressive locomotor recovery. The maximal angles of the inclined plane test were higher in the experimental group than in the control group (p<0.05). Conclusion: The results of this study showed that electroacupuncture to the zusanli point has a therapeutic effect on functional recovery after SCI.
