This paper studied the effects of inclination of piles on pile behaviors. The following are the conclusions of this study. (1) When all the piles are inclined to a same direction, the piles reaction, maximum moment and horizontal displacement of footing increase as the angle of inclination increases. (2) When the piles of each opposite side are inclined symmetrically, the vertical reaction either increases or decreases in proportion to the angle of inclination. In this case, the vertical reaction of inclined piles decreases but the vertical reaction of non-Inclined piles increases.
In this study, based on the relationship of the vertical force - settlement of batter piles obtained by pressure chamber model tests, the vertical bearing capacity of vertical and batter piles according to the increase of pile inclination was analyzed. A model open - ended steel pipe pile with the inclination of 5$^\circ$, 10$^\circ$ and 15$^\circ$ was driven into saturated fine sand with relative density of 50 %, and the static compression load tests were performed under each confining pressure of 35, 70 and 120 kPa in pressure chamber. The vertical bearing capacity of pile obtained from pressure chamber tests increased with the pile inclination. In the case of the inclination of 5$^\circ$, 10$^\circ$, 15$^\circ$, increasing ratios of pile bearing capacity were 111, 121, 127 ~ 140 % of vertical bearing capacity respectively. In the case of the inclination of above 20$^\circ$, the model tests could not be performed because of pile of pile head during compressive loading on the pile head.

In this study, both the model test and the numerical analysis were carried out to figure out the physical behaviour of the model pile during the tunnelling. As a result, both the vertical and the horizontal displacements were simultaneously occurred in the model pile which is subjected to the working load during the volume loss. Consequently, the phenomenon of inclination took place in the model pile. The degree of inclination of the model pile depends on volume loss due to tunnel excavation, pile tip's offset from the tunnel centre, and bearing ground conditions in which pile tip is located. Therefore, in the planning stage of urban tunnelling not only the ground behaviour with respect to the pile locations, but also the physical behaviour of pile itself should be carefully analysed to avoid damage of adjacent buildings.
Inclined piles are commonly used in civil engineering constructions where significant lateral resistance is required. Many researchers proved their positive performance on the seismic behavior of the supported structure and the piles themselves. However, most of these numerical studies were done within the framework of linear elastic or elastoplastic soil behavior, neglecting therefore the soil non-linearity at low and moderate soil strains which is questionable and could be misleading in dynamic analysis. The main objective of this study is to examine the influence of the pile inclination on the seismic performance of the soil-pile-structure system when both the linear elastic and the nonlinear soil models are employed. Based on the comparative responses, the adequacy of the soil's linear elastic behavior will be therefore evaluated. The analysis is conducted by generating a three-dimensional finite difference model, where a full interaction between the soil, structure, and inclined piles is considered. The numerical survey proved that the pile inclination can have a significant impact on the internal forces generated by seismic activity, specifically on the bending moment and shear forces. The main disadvantages of using inclined piles in this system are the bending forces at the head and pile-to-head connection. It is crucial to account for soil nonlinearity to accurately assess the seismic response of the soil-pile-structure system.
A series of centrifuge model tests to investigate the suction pile pullout loading capacity in sand have been performed. The main parameters that affect the pullout loading capacity of a suction pile include the mooring line inclination angle and the padeye position of the suction pile. With respect to the padeye position, the maximum pullout loading capacity is obtained when the padeye position is near 75% of the pile length from the top. The direction of the pile rotation changes when the padeye position reaches somewhere near 50~75% for all mooring line inclination angles. The translation displacement of suction pile to develop the time of maximum pullout loading capacity decreased as the mooring line inclination angle increased. In addition, the vertical displacements of the center of a suction piles for all cases appeared to develop toward the ground surface.
In order to study the behavior of the sheet pile under vertical load in sands, model pile tests using calibration chamber are performed. For this research, five model piles, with the same section area and different degree of inclination of flange, were made. And model pile tests were conducted for each of these piles with different relative density and direction of applied load. For model pile which has the same shape, compression capacity is about 100% higher than pullout capacity and the difference increases with increasing relative density. Pullout ultimate capacity and corresponding displacement increase with increasing relative density and the pullout capacities remained almost the same irrespective of the inclination of flanges for the same density. The ultimate capacity under compression load is highest at 30$^{\circ}$ of inclination of flanges and the trend is more evident with increasing relative density. From the analysis of load distribution, the higher loading capacity at 30$^{\circ}$ of inclination of flanges with same section area may be attributed to the partial soil plug between flanges.
The piled raft foundations are subjected to lateral loading under the action of wind and earthquake loads. Their bearing behavior and flexural responses under these loadings are of prime concern for researchers and practitioners. The insufficient experimental studies on piled rafts subjected to lateral loading lead to a limited understanding of this foundation system. Lateral load sharing between pile and raft in a laterally loaded piled raft is scarce in literature. In the present study, lateral load-displacement, load sharing, bending moment distribution, and raft inclinations of the piled raft foundations have been discussed through an instrumented scaled down model test in 1 g condition. The contribution of raft in a laterally loaded piled raft has been evaluated from the responses of pile group and piled raft foundations attributing a variety of influential system parameters such as pile spacing, slenderness ratio, group area ratio, and raft embedment. The study shows that the raft contributes 28-49% to the overall lateral capacity of the piled raft foundation. The results show that the front pile experiences 20-66% higher bending moments in comparison to the back pile under different conditions in the pile group and piled raft. The piles in the piled raft exhibit lower bending moments in the range of 45-50% as compared to piles in the pile group. The raft inclination in the piled raft is 30-70% less as compared to the pile group foundation. The lateral load-displacement and bending moment distribution in piles of the single pile, pile group, and piled raft has been presented to compare their bearing behavior and flexural responses subjected to lateral loading conditions. This study provides substantial technical aid for the understanding of piled rafts in onshore and offshore structures to withstand lateral loadings, such as those induced by wind and earthquake loads.
This is a study on rectangular-shaped passive row piles in inclined sand-ground by model tests. The experiment controlled the angle of inclination of ground and induced the ground destruction. We also measured the behavior of row piles, by adjusting the shape, position and spacing of piles. As a result, we confirmed the earth pressure, the lateral resistance, and the effect of depressing on the ground variation working on passive pile. The effect of B-type pile of which the front width is wide is bigger than that of H-type pile of which the side width is wide. We can find out the failure angle of slope, the shared force of pile and soil by using the lateral resistance graph based on slope angle.
In this study, the behavior characteristics of vertical and batter piles were analyzed by the model tests and the numerical analyses. Model steel pipe piles with the inclination of 0$^{\circ}$, 10$^{\circ}$, 20$^{\circ}$ and 30$^{\circ}$ were driven into sands with the relative density of 79%. The static compression load tests and numerical analyses using PENTAGON 3D were performed. The bearing capacities of batter piles with inclination of 10$^{\circ}$, 20$^{\circ}$ and 30$^{\circ}$ were 111, 95, and 81% of those of vertical pile in model tests, and the results of numerical analyses were similar to those of model tests. The bearing capacities p.oposed by Petrasovits and Award (1968) were similar to those of model test in the inclination of 10$^{\circ}$, but overestimated in the inclination of 20$^{\circ}$ and 30$^{\circ}$. The skin frictions and end bearing loads were the maximum in the inclination of 10$^{\circ}$ and decreased with increasing the inclination angle.

The influence of anchor slope on behavior of sheet pile is analysed by results of model test. It can be seen that the larger inclination of anchor causes more causes more increases of the horizontal and vertical deflection of wall, but the bending moment is less influenced by the inclination of anchor. The negative friction against vertical settlement of wall has the yielding point at the excavation level of 0.71-0.80 H. The redistribution of earth pressure on the sheet pile with dredging must be considered by soil-arching. The zero pressure point from the toe of wall is 20% higher than that of the Free Earth Support Method. It is also observed that the angle of failure planes to major principal plane is larger than the angle of $45^{\circ}+{\phi}/2$.
