This study is aimed to find the scouring mechanism at the toe of rubble mound structures. To investigate the characteristics of scouring in front of the structure, experiments were performed with regular waves in a 2-D flume. The results of this study are as follows. 1) It can be said the characteristics of incident wave causes rolling and sliding of armour block. The difference of wave pressure on the slope, internal flow as well as settlement of armour block due to the weight cause scouring. 2) It is observed that scouring depth at the toe increased when wave height or period increased. The location of ultimate scouring and deposition depth moved seaward when wave period increased. 3) The failure of rubble mound structure was caused by waves or scouring. Failure by erosion increased with high waves and long waves. 4) Using surf-similarity parameter including characteristics of incident waves and structure, scouring and deposition pattern were found and their limit was formulated.

Bleeding away a part of the boundary layer next to the wall is an effective method for controlling boundary-layer distortions from incident shock waves or curvature in geometry. When the boundary-layer flow is supersonic, the physics of bleeding with and without an incident shock wave is more complicated than just the removal of lower momentum fluid next to the wall. This paper reviews CFD studies of shock-wave/boundary-layer interactions on a flat plate with bleed into a plenum through a single hole, three holes in tandem, and four rows of staggered holes in which the simulation resolves not just the flow above the plate, but also the flow through each bleed hole and the plenum. The focus is on understanding the nature of the bleed process.
A rigorous analysis method of electromagentic scattering from frequency selective surface with gridded square loop elements in case of oblique incident and arbitrary polarization is presented, which uses the roof-top subdomain basis function. The frequency response and polarization characteristics of the reflected wave and the transmitted wave for various widths of the grid and the conductor square loop, and for the various gaps between the grid and the conductor square loop, and for the various gaps between the grid and square loop is investigated. To confirm the validity of presented method, frequency selective surfaces with gridded square loop elements are fabricated with honeycomb structures, calculate dvalues for the frequency response of the reflected wave and the transmitted wave for arbitrary incident angle and polarization are compared with measured values.
The electromagnetic wave scattering from active objects has only recently attracted attention.$^{(1).(3)}$ Theoretical studies have considered normal-incidence plane-wave interactions with active dielectric cylinders with the prediction of large enhancements in the scattered field for bound mode structures. According to the theory of the electromagnetic wave scattering from a dielectric cylinder, the eigenvector solutions are discrete and have both guided (non-radiative) and leaky (radiative) mode solutions. By using an anti-guiding (leaky) structure instead of a guided structure and scattering at oblique incident angles near critical angle, the scattering resonances predicted by theoretical studies were obtained for the first time. A fine-grained scan of the plane-wave incident angle a reveals the existence of discrete scattering resonances. The diameter and real part of the index of refraction determine the resonant conditions and the imaginary part of the refractive index has a threshold value to make mode up for its radiation loss. The cross coupling between transverse electric (TE) and transverse magnetic (TM) modes is clearly detected for both active and passive scattering as theoretically expected. (omitted)
In the present paper, the hydrodynamic properties of a Rahmen type flexible porous breakwater with dual fixed pontoon system interacting with obliquely or normally incident small amplitude waves are numerically investigated. This system is composed of dual vertical porous membranes hinged at the side edges of dual fixed pontoons, and a submerged horizontal membrane that both ends are hinged at the steel frames mounted pontoons. The dual vertical membranes are extended downward and hinged at bottom steal frame fixed into seabed. The wave blocking and dissipation mechanism and its effects of permeability, Rahmen type membrane and pontoon geometry, pretensions on membranes, relative dimensionless wave number, and incident wave headings are thoroughly examined.
This paper deals with the energy transmission ratio of the elastic waves transmitting through a solid wall. Based on the displacement of the reflected and transmitted waves relative to the incident waves, the energy transmission ratio of the wave was obtained by multiplying the vibration velocity and stresses. Numerical calculation provided with the transmission ratio and refraction angle corresponding to the incidence angle, and it showed the mode conversion from the incident longitudinal wave to the transmitted transverse wave in particular incidence angle range. The paper established a procedure to find the incidence angle of the maximum energy transmission ratio and confirmed it by experiment.

The interaction of oblique monochromatic incident waves with a horizontal flexible membrane is investigated in the context of two-dimensional linear hydro-elastic theory. First, analytic diffraction and radiation solutions for a submerged impermeable horizontal membrane are obtained. Second, the theoretical prediction was compared with a series of experiments conducted in a two-dimensional wave tank at Texas A&M University. The measured reflection and transmission coefficients reasonably follow the trend of predicted values. Using the developed computer program, the performance of surface-mounted or submerged horizontal membrane wave barriers is tested with various system parameters and wave characteristics. It is found that the properly designed horizontal flexible membrane can be an effective wave barrier and its efficiency can be further improved using a porous material.

When the cylindrical wave is incident on a plane dielectric interface from a denser medium to a rarer one, the asymptotic solution for the transmitted wave in the near region is different from the one in the far region. In this paper, we have derived a novel uniform asymptotic solution represented by using the parabolic cylinder function for the transmitted and scattered waves observed in the rarer medium when the cylindrical wave is incident on the plane dielectric interface from the denser medium. The validity of the uniform asymptotic solution has been confirmed by comparing with the reference solution calculated numerically. It has been clarified that the transition wave plays an important role to connect smoothly the asymptotic solution in the near region to the one in the far region through the transition region. We have shown the very interesting phenomenon that the lateral wave type transmitted wave is observed in the far and shallow region.
The twin-impulse wave discharged from two parallel tubes is investigated to see flow patterns, compared with the single impulse wave. In the present study, the merging phenomena and propagation characteristics of the impulse waves are investigated by experiment and numerical computation. The Harten-Yee's total variation diminishing scheme is used to solve the unsteady, two-dimensional, compressible, Euler equations. The Mach number Ms of incident shock wave is lower than 1.5 and the distance between the tubes is between 1.2 and 4.0. In the shock tube experiment, the twin impulse waves are visualized by a Schlieren optical system in order to validate the computational result. It is shown that on the symmetric axis between two parallel tubes, the peak pressure produced by the twin impulse waves and its location strongly depend upon the tube distance and the incident shock Mach number, Ms. The predicted Schlieren images show a good agreement with the measured twin-impulse wave.
