  • The Port treat 99.7% of freight for imports & exports in our country. So The Port is much accounted of the economy. Then the government and economy study about rasing port efficiency and productivity. But most of the studies are related with container terminal. Container is easy to treat. Because container is standardized. And it also is easy to implement to a system. But general terminal which treats bulk-cargo or general cargo is not. In this study, Stevedoring System applying PDA is developed by analyzing current system and business process. It is based on Web Service. So It is easy of access.

Performance of a Reciprocating Compressor Equipped with Auxiliary Port (보조 흡입구가 장착된 왕복동 압축기의 성능 분석)

  • Auxiliary port which had been known to be used to reduce the expansion loss of a refrigeration system was applied to a R134a reciprocating compressor in a household refrigerator cycle with an intention of improving the compressor performance. Effects of the auxiliary port on the compressor performance was investigated by a computer simulation program. When a simple hole was made on the side wall of the cylinder as an auxiliary port and surrounding gas inside the compressor shell was assumed to be drawn into the cylinder through the hole, maximum COP improvement of 1.66% was obtained. With auxiliary port equipped with a plate type of check valve, maximum COP was raised to be 1.99%. COP improvement was more distinctive with decreasing the discharge pressure; COP improvement was 5% with discharge pressure of 7 bar.

  • The interest of Cruise has been increased because of economic development and income growth in the world during last several decades. In Asian area the Cruise service also has been enlarged, especially in East Asia countries such as Korea, Japan, Singapore, Hongkong, Taiwan and China. This paper reviewed previous researches and clarify its concept and characteristics of Cruise Industry. And This paper aims to study the correct concepts and characteristics of Cruise marketing and investigate the current status and trend of Cruise Industry of the world and Korea. And it has groped and suggested various countermeasures, strategies and tactics in the 4Ps perspectives, considering the problems and conditions of Cruise service of Incheon Port.

Assessment of greenhouse gas emissions from ships operation at the Port of Incheon using AIS (AIS를 활용한 인천항 선박의 온실가스 배출량 추정)

  • This paper attempts to estimate GHG emissions, primarily $CO_2$ ship emissions, at the port of Incheon in October 2014. This study employed a bottom-up approach based on Automatic Identification System (AIS) data to estimate the total amount of fuel consumption and the total amount of $CO_2$ emission produced as a result of fuel combustion. Using a sample of 330 ships operating at the port of Incheon in Korea, the total amount of $CO_2$ gases emitted from ships in October 2014 were estimated to be 164693.06 tons, with estimated total fuel consumption of 51953.64 tons. General cargo ships were most common type of ships, but they were less polluting compared to passenger ships. The detailed emission estimates by ship type revealed that passenger ships were the most polluting ships (81409.6 tons of emissions), followed by tugboats (37248.4 tons), cargo ships (32154.6 tons), ships used for other activities (9039.1 tons), chemical tankers (4027.06 tons), and fishing ships (814.048 tons), respectively.

  • The purpose of this article is to provide data to be utilized for marketing to attract future container cargo to the Korea-China Car Ferry Service and to estimate container traffic for the development of the International Passenger Terminal to be newly built in the Incheon Southern Port. An analysis of container traffic through the Passenger Terminal of Incheon Port showed that the container throughput of Incheon Port comprised 20% of traffic. The export cargo traffic in the International Passenger Terminal, 71.4%, or 111,698 TEU of 156,284 TEU in total, was brought from metropolitan areas. To increase the container traffic of the car ferry service currently concentrated on the metropolitan areas, more endeavor is required to strengthen marketing competence to attract container traffic to other regions apart from the metropolitan areas as well as provide general services.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the trend of export growth rate and rate of change by each port/airport in Korea. And to analyze which each port/airport are showing a high growth rate. To this end, Incheon Airport, Busan, Incheon, Ulsan, Gwangyang and Pyeongtaek were selected in order of export value. The analysis period for each port/airport was 200 monthly data from September 2001 to April 2018. Pyeongtaek, Incheon and Gwangyang are relatively larger than Busan and Ulsan in the rate of increase and change. This is because export to China and Southeast Asia has increased more than in the US and Japan. As a result of the analysis, exports from Busan, Incheon Airport and Ulsan have recently been shifted to Incheon Airport, Incheon, Gwangyang and Pyeongtaek. In addition, the export portion of Incheon International Airport, which is an aviation logistics service, is growing more and more. In the west coast era, interest and investment in Incheon, Pyeongtaek and Gwangyang seem to be more needed in preparation for import and export to China, Southeast Asia and North Korea.

  • We applied the TPM to loading and unloading equipments of Incheon port and compared with the current maintenance of Incheon port's equipments. Also we analyzed the death disaster causes of equipments and work tools and suggested TPM techniques as a plan of disaster prevention. Using TPM to the loading and unloading equipments we expect to obtain the breakdown zero, defective zero, and disaster zero. And then it should raise the productivity of harbor loading and unloading equipments.

  • This paper describes a new progressive embedded Internet Protocol(IP) camera available for real-time image transmission. It was applied for ship safety and security on seashore area. The functions of developed embedded system was more effective and excellent than conventional systems. Nowadays, each nation has established harbor security systems to jump up their ports to international port. Recently Incheon port has tried to change man security into center security system used by image security system. The security system of Incheon port has some advantages like effectivity of security system and reduction of manpower and cost, installed by image security system with CCTV cameras at the entrance gate and around the fence. Thus in this paper, we have designed and implemented a Personal Digital Assistants(PDA) based Image Surveillance System for Harbor Security using IP Camera under ubiquitous environment. This system has big advantages which are more effective in an emergency and low cost and small manpower than conventional systems.

A Study on Analysis and Prevention for Cargo Handling Accidents in Incheon Port (인천항 항만하역 재해분석 및 예방대책에 관한 연구)

  • The port, differently from general working place, is a closed area to execute security, customs, and quarantine procedures. The loading and unloading is being done differently by cargoes, ships, berths, and equipments. To load and unload a lot of equipments and different types of labor are required, in which work flow is very complicated. As above mentioned the port is very unique and deteriorated working place including danger. The purpose of this thesis is to propose ways to analyze and establish the preventive measure for cargo handling accidents in port. We have collected 923 accidents happened at Incheon Port during the period from 1994 to 2003. And to analyze and establish the preventive measure we have employed an advanced 6sigma DMAIC technology presently in spotlight as the best tool for management innovation. For the purpose of effective safety management of cargo handling in port, this thesis will help to revise and establish the law, system, standard, and standard working manual with respect to the port loading and unloading system. Now frequency of cargo handling accidents in port is highest for the second time among all industries, so we proposed the new safety management system to substitute port safety committee and to take full charge of safety in Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries.

  • Localization is one of the typical phenomena of this age in Korea. Localization of Port is on the beginning in this Country as the introduction of Port Authority in the Port of Busan and Incheon. As the condition of world trade has been changed, the level of Competition among Ports is severer than before, especially in the East Asia Area. Since many experts of Port say that centralized control system of Port has many Problems, some other Port Control system has been studied and suggested for long time. One of the Countermeasures of these Port Problems is Port Authority System which aims the balance of central and local development. Port Authority System does not want to achieve only Public Duty or Utility but also Commerciality which is fundamentally very important for the survival of Port. In this Paper, the necessities of Port Authority Introduction in Korea was explained. And Port Authority System will be introduced 2004 year in Busan Port firstly and Incheon Port, secondly. The Main Contents of Port Authority System was suggested , in this Paper and some Problems which shall be considered for better operation of Port Authority System was investigated. I suggested some countermeasures, endeavoring the competitive advantage of Port and higher Port Performance, in terms of 3 Dimensions. One is in the side of basic Policy Directions, the other is the activation schemes of functional department which composed of many activities of Port Authority System and the third is in the side of operation body. As this paper, however, has some limitations and Port Authority System is just beginning stage, future research shall be continued in real and concrete level.
