  • The scattering problem by E-polarized plane wave with oblique incidence on a tapered resistive strip grating with infinite resistivity at strip-edges is analyzed by the method of moments in the spectral domain. Then the induced surface current density is expanded in a series of Ultraspherical polynomials of the zeroth order. The expansion coefficients are calculated numerically in the spectral domain, the numerical results of the geometricoptical reflection coefficient for the tapered resistivity in this paper are compared with those for the existing uniform resistivity. And the position of sharp variation points in the magnitude of the geometric-optical reflection coefficient can be moved by varying the incident angle and the strip spacing. It is found out that these sharp variation points are due to the transition of higher modes between the propagation mode and the evanescent mode.

  • This study was performed to investigate the factors affecting muscle activity and cephalometric variables according to change of head postures. For this study, 150 patients with temporomandibular disorders and 80 dental students without any signs and symptoms of temporomandibular disorders were selected as the patients group and as the normal group, respectively. Head position to body-midline in frontal plane and upper quarter posture to body plumb line in sagittal plane were observed clinically and electromyographic(EMG) activity of anterior temporalis, masseter, sternocleidomastoideus, and trapezius on clenching were recorded with $BioEMG^{(R)}$ in four head postures, which were natural head posture(NHP), forward head posture(FHP), $20^{\circ}$ upward head posture(UHP), and $20^{\circ}$ downward head posture(DHP). Cephaloradiographs were also taken in the same head postures as in EMG taking, but that was taken only in NHP for the patient group. Cephalometric variables measured were SN angle, CVT angle, atlas inclination angle, occlusal plane angle, Me-C2 angle, pharyngeal width, occiput~axis distance, area of pharyngeal space, and cervical curvature. The data were analyzed by SAS statistical program. The results of this study were as follows : 1. Between the patient and the normal group, there were significant difference in distance from plumb line to acromion, eye-tragus angle, electromyographic activity of the four muscles, and cephalometric variables of linear measurement. 2. There was no consistent pattern of correlation between upper quarter posture, EMG activity and cephalometric variables in any case without relation to cervical curvature and head position in frontal plane. 3. Sternocleidomastoid muscle only showed variation of electromyographic activty with changes of head postures, but all the muscles did show correlation with head postures. 4. All the cephalometric variables measured in this study showed difference of mean value by head posture, and CVT angle, pharyngeal width, occiput-atlas distance, and area of pharyngeal space showed correlation between these variables with change from NHP to FHP, and from NHP to UHP.

  • Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) based on III-nitrides compound semiconductors have achieved a high performance device available for display and illumination sector. However, the conventional c-plane oriented LED structures are still showing several problems given by the quantum confined Stark effect (QCSE) due to the effects of strong piezoelectric and spontaneous polarizations. The QCSE results in spatial separation of electron and hole wavefunctions in quantum wells, thereby decreasing the internal quantum efficiency and red-shifting the emission wavelength. Due to demands for improvement of device performance, nonpolar structure has been attracting attentions, since the quantum wells grown on nonpolar templates are free from the QCSE. However, current device performance for nonpolar LEDs is still lower than those for conventional LEDs. In this study, we discuss the potential possibilities of nonpolar LEDs for commercialization. In this study, we characterized current-light output power relation of the a-plane InGaN/GaN LEDs structures with the variation of quantum well structures. On-wafer electroluminescence measurements were performed with short pulse (10 us) and low duty factor (1 %) conditions applied for eliminating thermal effects. The well and barrier widths, and indium compositions in quantum well structures were changed to analyze the efficiency droop phenomenon.

  • The flow melting behavior of the electrolytic tinplate during reflow treatment was investigated in terms of morphology and structure of coating layers which were electrodeposited with variation of electrolyte temperature. It was commonly found that the nucleation density of the electrodeposits showed little difference with the electrolyte temperature, and the growth of electrodeposited tin occurred along <100> direction of (002) plane. At low electrolyte temperature, the (002) plane of tin nucleated paralleling to the substrate and grew perpendicularly to the substrate, which rendered porous rod-like deposits. With increasing the temperature, the (002) plane nucleated declining $15^{\circ}$ to the substrate and also grew to the normal <100> direction, which enabled lateral growth of the tin crystals and rendered compact deposits. During reflow treatment, the matte deposit transformed to the reflowed state via transition regions consisted of contraction, island formation, and wetting . The matte deposits formed at low temperature exhibited wide transition regions because of poor thermal transfer between crystals due to their porous nature. While that formed at high temperature transformed very rapidly to the reflowed state by enhanced thermal transfer between the compact crystals.

  • This paper deals with comparison of simultaneous geodetic networks between with geographical coordinates and with plane coordinates. The adjustment computation is performed by variation of coordinates. Provisional values for observation equations are computed by extended Guass mid-latitude formula using, official coordinates ($\varphi,\lambda$) in geographical network abjustment, measurements are reduced to plane by origin scale factor (=1.0000) Bessel ellipsoid and unit weight are adopted, and geographical coordinates are projected by Guass conformal double projection. The processing results of a test-network by distances yield the average root mean square error of position 6ㆍ2cm for adjustment with $\varphi,\lambda$ and 5.8cm for adjustment with X, Y. RMSE of discrepancy between two methods is 1.7cm. This result conform to required accracy.

  • In this study, a novel algorithm of the improvement residual non-uniformity (RNU) in thermal imaging system is proposed using correlated double sample signal processing. The proposed method attempts to eliminate offset variation of ROIC in IR detector causing the variation of FPA (focal plane array) temperature and suppling power. Experimental results show that the proposed method confirmed a better performance than the existing RNU system.

  • This paper investigates the relationship between the compression ratio and the gamut area for a reconstructed image when using JPEG and JPEG2000. Eighteen color samples from the Macbeth ColorChecker are initially used to analyze the relationship between the compression ratio and the color bleeding phenomenon, i.e. the hue and chroma shifts in the a*b* color plane. In addition, twelve natural color images, divided into two groups depending on four color attributes, are also used to investigate the relationship between the compression ratio and the variation in the gamut area. For each image group, the gamut area for the reconstructed image shows an overall tendency to increase when increasing the compression ratio, similar to the experimental results with the Macbeth ColorChecker samples. However, with a high compression ratio, the gamut area decreases due to the mixture of adjacent colors, resulting in more grey.

  • An finite element code has been developed to calculate current flowing through an 8-node trilinear cubic element from the calculated potentials on the eight node. This code was implemented to the three-dimensional thoracic model for impedance cardiography to find the total currents in the z-direction flowing through the layers which are parallel to x-y plane. The accuracy of the total current was estimated from its variation among the layers. It was found that the accuracy of the total currents in the layers was less than 0.6%.

  • This paper proposes nonlinear behavior in a love model for Romeo and Juliet with an external force of discontinuous time. We investigated the periodic motion and chaotic behavior in the love model by using time series and phase portraits with respect to some variable and fixed parameters. The computer simulation results confirmed that the proposed love model with an external force of discontinuous time shows periodic motion and chaotic behavior with respect to parameter variation.
