  • Micro injection molding analysis for microneedle fabrication was performed in the present study. The dimensions of width and thickness for in-plane microneedle are $600{\mu}m$, $500{\mu}m$, respectively. A delivery system based on guidelines for traditional injection molding was designed for four-cavities molding system. To investigate the effects of processing conditions in the mirconeedle fabrication, injection molding analysis using commercial code was performed. It was shown that the total injection time has a significant effect on the fabrication of in-plane microneedles.

  • There have been many packages that can be employed to analyze plane frames. However, because most structural analysis packages suffer from closeness of system, it is very difficult to integrate it with an optimization package. To overcome the difficulty, we proposed a possible alternative, DAMDO, which integrate Design, Analysis, Modeling, Definition, and Optimization phases into an integrative environment. The DAMDO methodology employs neural networks to integrate structural analysis package and optimization package so as not to need directly to integrate these two packages. The key problem of the DAMDO approach is how to generate a set of reasonable random designs in the first phase. According to the characteristics of optimized plane frames, we proposed the ratio variable approach to generate them. The empirical results show that the ratio variable approach can greatly improve the accuracy of the neural networks, and the plane frame optimization problems can be solved by the DAMDO methodology.

  • A plane-strain finite element analysis of sheet metal forming is carried out by using the rigid-plastic FEM based on the membrane theory. The sheet material is assumed to possess normal anisotropy and to obey Hill's new yield criterion and its associated flow rule. A formulation of initial guess generation for the displacement field is derived by using the nonlinear elastic FEM. A method of contact treatment is proposed in which the skew boundary condition for arbitrarily shaped tools is successively used during iteration. In order to verify the validity of the developed method, plane-strain drawing with tools in analytic expression and with arbitrarily shaped tools is analyzed and compared with the published results. The comparison shows that the present method can be effectively used in the analysis of plane-strain sheet metal forming and thus provides the basis of approximate sectional analysis of panel-like sheet forming.

  • Welding of structure produces welding residual stresses which influence buckling strength, brittle fracture strength and cold crack on the weld parts. Therefore, it is very important to accurately analyze the residual stress before welding in order to guarantee the safety of weldment. If the weld length is long enough compared to the thickness and the breadth of plate, thermal and mechanical behaviors in the middle portion of the plate are assumed to be uniform along the thickness direction(z-axis). Thus, the following conditions(so-called plane deformation) can be assumed for the plate except near its end;1) distributions of stress and strain are independent on the z-axis;2) plane normal to z-axis before deformation remains plane during and after deformation. In this paper, plane-deformation thermal elasto-plastic problem is formulated by being based on the finite element method. Moreover special regards and paid to the fact that material properties in elastic and plastic region are temperature-dependence. And the method to solve the plane-deformation thermal elasto-plastic problem is shown by using the incremental technique. From the results of analysis, the characterisics of distribution of welding residual stress and plastic strain with the production mechanism are clarified.

  • When the center of stiffness and the center of mass of the structure differ under the seismic load, torsion is caused by eccentricity. In this study, an analysis model was modeled in which the positions of the core and the plane rotation axis of a 60-story torsional atypical structure with a plane rotation angle of 1 degree per floor were different. The structural behavior of the analysis model was analyzed, and the earthquake response behavior of the structure was analyzed based on the time history analysis results. As a result, as the eccentricity of the structure increased, the eccentricity response was amplified in the high-rise part, and the bending and torsional behavior responses were complex in the low-order vibration mode. As a result of the analysis, the maximum displacement and story drift ratio increased due to the torsional behavior. The maximum story shear force and the story absolute maximum acceleration showed similarities for each analysis model according to the shape of the vibration mode of the analysis model.

  • A new method to reduce the computation time in power/ground-plane analysis is proposed. The existing method using the two dimensional infinite series summation take a lot of computation time. The proposed method is based on the approximation of impedance in the frequency domain through the Mobius transform. This method shows the good accuracy and the high speed in computing. In the case of impedance calculation for 9'x4' board, the proposed method takes 0.16 second of computing time whereas the existing method takes 2.2 second. This method can be applied to the analysis and design of power/ground-plane that need a lot of computation steps.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of club head and golf ball kinematics and body alignment according to the swing plane during golf driver swing. Method: Sixteen college golfers participated in this study. Kinematic data of the club head and golf ball were collected using golf swing analysis system (Trackman Ver. 3e). The body alignment variables were collected using 8 motion capture system. An Independent samples t-test was used for comparison between the Out-to-In group and In-to-Out group, and the statistical significance level was set at .05. Results: For the club head related variables, club path and club face angle showed higher values in Out-to-In swing plane than In-to-Out swing plane. For the kinematic variables of the golf ball, the total distance showed a higher value in the In-to-Out swing plane than that of the Out-to-In swing plane. For the body alignment, the In-to-Out swing plane showed higher values than the Out-to-In swing plane for the pelvis rotation angle and trunk rotation angle. Conclusion: This study suggest that it would be more effective to use the In-to-Out swing plane for increasing the total distance during the golf driver swing.

  • A two-degree-of-freedom out-of-plane model with contact stiffness is presented to describe dynamical interaction between the pad and disc of a disc brake system. It is assumed that the out-of-plane motion of the system depends on the friction force acting along the in-plane direction. Dynamic friction coefficient is modelled as a function of both in-plane relative velocity and out-of-plane normal force. When the friction coefficient depends only on the relative velocity, the contact stiffness has the role of negative stiffness. The results of stability analysis show that the stiffness of both pad and disc is equally important. Complex eigen value analysis is conducted for the case that the friction coefficient is also dependent on the normal force. The results further verify the importance of the stiffness. It has also been found that increasing the gradient of friction coefficient with respect to the normal force makes the system more unstable.

  • We proposed an analysis model for a Fabry-Perot cavity constructed with a plane-mirrored optical fiber and a concave-mirrored one. We presented the analysis results calculated by inserting practical values into the equations derived. The coupling loss of the cavity and the mirror loss are the most important parameters in reducing the insertion loss of the filter. In order to build a filter of finesse 600, FSR 57 nm, and insertion loss < 3 dB, the plane-concave cavity using mirrors of loss < 0.09% should be aligned for the coupling loss to be less than 0.1 %.
