  • This paper introduces the spring-mounted odometer system which maintains the correct contact with the pipe wall and measures the distance along the pipe. The odometer wheel is designed to keep contact to the pipelines inner wall and to generate fifty rectangular pulses per one turn(l59.5681mm) during pigging. The pipeline has the defects in various types such as buckles, winkles, cracks, dents, welding point and so on. Specially, girth welding points which exist each 12m of the pipeline, much affects the operational environment of the odometer. The measurement error of the distance along the pipe is accumulated, for the measurement error of wheel's circumference and the pipeline inner environment. So, this paper proposes the method for the error compensation based on the analysis of the odometer's behavior around the girth welding point of pipe. The experimental results show that developed odometer system can be used for the intelligent pig with good performances.

입열량이 고변형률 강관 원주 용접부 특성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Heat Input on Girth Welds Properties of High Strain Steel Pipe)

  • SBD (Strain-based design) of pipe lines have gained world-wide attention in recent years. The present research aims to evaluate the fracture characteristics of API (America Petroleum Institute) SBD X100 girth weldment that typically applied for cold climate and deep water offshore, with the focus on the influence of heat input changing with 6kJ/cm and 10kJ/cm from GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding). At a low heat input at 6kJ/cm, the weld metal had Multi-phase matrix (Acicular ferrite + Banite + Martensite) that could fill up both fracture toughness and strength as reported previously. Also, the weld metal exhibited 859MPa YS (Yield strength), 108J impact toughness at $-40^{\circ}C$ and 0.52mm CTOD (Crack Tip Open Displacement) at $-10^{\circ}C$. These results can be satisfied with the requirement of API SBD X100 girth weldment and Alaska pipe line project.

위보기 및 경사상진자세의 TIG 용접에서 비드 성형기의 물리적 힘에 의한 용융지 제어 (Control of Molten Pool by Physical Force of Bead Former in TIG Welding of Overhead and Inclined-up Position)

  • Due to excellent weld quality, orbital welding with TIG is widely applied to pipe welding. But concave back bead is formed easily in overhead and inclined-up position of butt orbital welding. It is difficult to find a paper to overcome this problem. In this study, in order to make convex back bead in overhead and inclined-up position of pipe 5G welding, control method of molten pool was actively investigated. Melt run welds were conducted on thickness 4.0mm SS400 with overhead and inclined-up position and was observed the variation of bead shape after welding with the bead former developed. The height of back bead showed the trend of increase as the distance from molten pool to the bead former was decreased. Also, there is no trend in the bead width of front and back as welding position was changed or the distance from molten pool to the bead former was decreased.

유속에 따른 ERW 탄소강관의 홈부식 특성에 관한 연구 (A study on the characteristic of the Groove corrosion of ERW carbon steel according to water speed)

  • 강관은 물, 유류, 천연 가스 등을 운송하는 배관용 및 건물의 골조, 유압 및 공압 실린더, 가이드 레일 등 의 기계적 부품으로도 널리 사용되기도 한다. 이렇게 사용되는 강관의 70% 이상은 고주파 전기저항용접(High Frequency Electrical Resistance Welding,이하 ERW)으로 제조되고 있다. 아파트 등 실제 현장에서 ERW 강관에 흐르는 유체는 비드가 제거된 내면 부위에서 와류 (vortex)를 일으켜 기계적 침식(erosion)을 수반할 가능성이 있으며, 수격현상으로 인해 부식 부위에서 반복피로 하중을 받아 부식의 전파속도가 증가되어 최종적 으로 파손되는 경우도 예상할 수 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 입열량을 달리하여 제조된 ERW 강관을 대상으로 강관 내부에서의 유속에 따라 홈부식 감수성에 미치는 영향을 확인하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 실제 사용 환경을 모사할 수 있는 장치를 제작하고 경계 조건을 선정하여 실험을 실시하였다. ERW 강관의 내부에서 유속이 빨라질 경우 부식속도는 증가를 하였고, 입열을 많이 받은 강관의 경우 부식속도가 감소하는 경향을 가졌다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 하여 ERW 강관에서 발생하고 있는 결함발생에 의한 피해를 극소화시킴으로서 안전하고 효율적인 관리에 기여하고자 한다.

  • This study compared the macro and micro electrochemical characteristics at the local area of welding metal on dissimilar welding parts for type 304 stainless steel (SS) and type 316L SS. The materials are used for double wall gas pipe of duel fuel engine for a ship. The various potentiodynamic experiments were performed several times in 10% ${H_2C_2O_2}{\cdot}{H_2O}$ solution using macro and micro methods, respectively. The micro electrochemical experiments conducted to resolve at local area on cross-section of dissimilar welding materials by micro-droplet cell device. The micro-droplet cell techniques can be used almost electrochemical experiments to resolve corrosion characteristics of the limited electrode area of the metallic surface between wetted spot of working electrode and tip of sharpened capillary tube. The results of macro electrochemical experiments show that resistance of active dissolution reaction at welding zone was high due to low current density by formation of passivation protection film at passive region. According to the micro electrochemical experiment, the corrosion current density of welding zone and bond zone were relatively high.

  • It has been suggested that the motivation for automation of welding processes ncludes the replacement and extension of the functions of human operators. Among these types of the welding automation, SAW(Submerged Arc Welding) was prevalently used, because it is highly suited to a wide range of application, especially for the high speed welding. A Significant portion of the total manufacturing time for a pipe fabrication process is spent on the welding following primary machining and fit-up processes. To achieve the reliable weld bead appearance, the automatic seam tracking and adaptive control to fill the groove are urgently needed. This paper proposed the mechanical functions of multi-torches welding system, flux supply and recovery system in conjunction with the complex air pulsing method and various types of methodologies. It was shown that the multi-torches welding system revealed the high welding qualities for the circular and rectangular pipes. In conclusion, the multi-torches welding system developed will contribute the advanced welding technology, welding automation and increment of the market in these areas.

PE배관의 융착 강도에 관한 연구 (A Study on Fusion Welding Strength of PE pipe)

  • At present the Polyethylene piping, on supporting LNG is widely used because of it's disposition which are anti-corrosion flexible and so on. However, it has a few kinds of risk which are the possibility of piping leak, the character of easily corroded and so on. For giving solution, this study is intended to experiment the intension of the PE pipe after melted and when it is melting, the condition which are temperature and pressure is changed. the melting condition in temperature and pressure is adapted identically. After melting, it's joint is tested as intension. The result is that the effect of temperature in intension is more effective than pressure. In $210^{\circ}C$, $20kg/cm^{2}$ condition, the melting intension has the highest. Compare to the Butt melting joint and the Saddle melting joint, the former was $214kg/cm^{2}$ and the latter was $50kg/cm^{2}(bead\;2{\sim}3mm)$ and $73kg/cm^{2}(bead\;5{\sim}7mm)$. It means that the Butt melting method has more intensive than saddle. Consequently, the result shows that the liability and safety when pipe melting method is used will improve in pipe installation.

냉각재 공급자관 위상배열 검사 적용에 따른 결함 분석 (Analysis of Defect in CANDU Feeder Pipe using Phased Array Ultrasonic Inspection System)

  • The feeder pipe of Main Primary Heat Transfer System in Wolsong Nuclear Power Plant was inspected by the Ultrasonic Phase Array technique in 2010. It is the first time to apply this method to the construction at Nuclear Power Plant in Korea. The time required for UT technique is less than RT method. The UT method doesn't need to evacuate personnel who works nearby inspecting area and doesn't need to wait developing of film. For these reasons, the UT method is the fastest method among the volumetric inspections. As a result of the examination, it became clear that main defect of the feeder pipe is the Lack of fusion in the welded area. Moreover, the rate of defect was reduced gradually as improvement of welder's skill. If welding machine has problem, the defect has tended to same pattern(occurred same position in the welding area) but these defects were founded without specific rules. For these reasons, the creation of defect is dependent on the skill of worker not on the automatic welding machine. This evaluation of defect signal and collecting data would be useful to further examination in ISI.
