  • Computers are playing a major role in generating, sharing, and utilizing knowledge, which can be recognized as an essential component of national competitiveness. This may lead to the necessity as well as importance of computer education in elementary education. In the paper, we first investigate the necessity of teaching principles of binary system and then we figure out the status quo of teaching the subject in elementary classrooms. Based on the observations in the field, we design learning contents that can be used effectively in classroom so that students can learn easily the fundamental concept of binary system.

  • Recently, researches for methods of generating binary feature descriptors have been actively done. Since matching of binary feature descriptors uses Hamming distance which is based on bit operations, it is much more efficient than that of previous general feature descriptors which uses Euclidean distance based on real number operations. However, since increase in the number of features linearly drops matching speed, in applications such as object tracking where real-time applicability is a must, there has been an increasing demand for methods of further improving the matching speed of binary feature descriptors. In this regard, this paper proposes a method that improves the matching speed greatly while maintaining the matching accuracy by splitting high dimensional binary feature descriptors to several low dimensional ones and sequentially analyzing their partial Hamming distances. To evaluate the efficiency of the proposed method, experiments of comparison with previous matching methods are conducted. In addition, this paper discusses schemes of generating binary feature descriptors for maximizing the performance of the proposed method. Based on the analysis on the performance of several generation schemes, we try to find out the most effective scheme.

  • Unplugged has been widely used as an instrument for teaching the basic principles of Computer Science. This study presents the teaching contents developed for the children without any knowledge of binary numbers. which successfully guided them to understand the natural number binary system. The level of the pre-lesson for this learning requires counting numbers, matching numbers with cards, and arranging numbers. The activity-based learning is provided for describing natural numbers with the binary system and finding out them in everyday life. To check the adequacy of these materials on their organization and assessment they were tested at the classroom, which showed effective about the knowledge, the attitude and the generalization.

  • As the development of networks and computer systems, users want various services. To meet user's various needs, new technologies is developed and a software streaming technology, uses software with streaming technology, is newly coming out. If network trouble occurs, the software is not available because the streaming server can't send the binary code that software needs to be executed in the streaming service based on network environment. In this paper, we propose the management technology of software binary code in client that managing the binary codes classfied by the function kept in the local storage device, provides the service continuously after the network trouble with the given binary code previously not the binary code from the server.

  • We have made semi-analytical studies to investigate the configurations of caustics and the probability distribution of the flux factor K for the binary microlensing including external shears. A parametric equation of critical curve is derived in a 4th order complex polynomial. We present the topological dependencies of the caustics for selected gamma parameters (0, 0.3, 0.6, 1.3, 2.0, and 2.5) and convergence terms (0., 0.4, 0.8, 1.2, 1.6, and 2.0). For the purpose of analyzing the efficiency of High Amplification Event (HAE) on each caustics, we examine the probability distribution of the flux factor by a Monte Carlo method. Changing the separation of the binary system from 0.8 to 1.3 (in normalied unit), we examine the probability distribution of the K-values in various gamma parameters. The relationship between gamma parameters, seperations and their probabilties of the flux factor K have been studied. Our results show that the relatively higher K values (K>1.5) are increased as increasing the separation of the binary system. We therfore conclude that, in the N-body microlensing, the probabilities of higher HAEs are inversely proportional to the star density as well. We also point out that the present research might be used as a preliminary step toward investigating heavy N-body microlensing simulations.

  • In this paper, we study Bayesian estimation for the finite population proportion in binary data under selection bias. We use a Bayesian nonignorable selection model to accommodate the selection mechanism. We compare four possible estimators of the finite population proportions based on data analysis as well as Monte Carlo simulation. It turns out that nonignorable selection model might be useful for weekly biased samples.

  • Brushless DC(BLDC) motor have been increasingly used in machine tools and robotics applications due to the reliability and the efficiency. In control of BLDC motor, it is important to construct the controller which is robust to parameter variations and external disturbances. Variable structure controller(VSC) has been known as a powerful tool in robust control of time varying systems. In practical systems, however, VSC has a high frequency chattering which deteriorates system performances. In this paper, a binary controller(BC) which takes the form of VSC and MRAC combined is presented to solve this problem. BC consists of the primary loop controller and the external loop controller to change the gain of primary loop controller smoothly. So it can generate the continuous control input and is insensitive to parameter variations in the given domain. To confirm the validity, various investigations of control characteristics for various design parameters in a position control system of BLDC motor are carried out. • In this parer, we present the bubble forming and motion in the micro channel by using the two-dimensional numerical computation and experiment. In the numerical computation, The Lattice Boltzmann method(LBM) and free-energy model is used to treat the interfacial force and deformation of binary fluid system, drawn in to a micro channel and a numerical simulation is carried out by using the parallel computation method. The urn in this investigation is to examine the applicability of LBM to numerical analysis and experimental method of binary fluid separation and motion in the micro channel.

  • The identification of multiple bad data, especially when mutually interacting, may be difficult to handle, since the well known procedures based on the normalized or weighted residuals may become faulty. In such a case, successive elimination of the measurement with the largest normalized residual may result in the suppression of correct measurements instead of the bad data. Then the problem of identifying bad data is considered as a combinatorial decision procedure. In this paper, binary PSO is used for the identification of multiple bad data in the power system state estimation. The proposed binary PSO based procedures behave satisfactorily in the identifying multiple bad data. The test is carried out with reference to the IEEE-14 bus system.

  • Double-diffusive convection during solidification process of the binary mixture was studied numerically. Enthalpy method and finite element method were implemented in the analysis. Calculation carried out for $R{\alpha}_T=10^3-10^4$ and $R{\alpha}_T=0-10^5$. The results show that the variation of thermal Rayleigh number changes the fields of velocity, temperature and concentration, but the variation of solutal Rayleigh number gives little effects on those. In conclusion, concentration gradient can be negligible compared with temperature gradient in macroscopic point of view, although concentration gradient plays a role in forming dendrite.
